Mohamed Raza Mohamed Husein Dungersi, Ph.D. Februari 1, 2012 1 Rabiul Awwal 1433 New York, Marekani 3 IMAM MUHAMMAD BIN HASAN AL-MAHDI (A.S.)

  • Miracles of Ziyarat Ashura Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
MIRACLES OF ZIYARAT ASHURA BISMILLAHIR RAHMANIR RAHIM Ziyarat Ashura was sent by Almighty Allah to the Holy Prophet (s.a.) through angel Jibrail to console him on the unique tragedy of Karbala. Prophet Muhammad (s.a.) said: “The difficulties I had to face were unlike anything faced by the earlier prophets (a.s.).” Regarding this tradition, Ayatullah Shaykh Iraqi writes that, here the Prophet (s.a.) apart from his other afflictions, wishes to tell us about a tribulation in particular that was unique in nature, in the sense that none of the previous prophet were subjected to it. And that tribulation was the hostile treatment meted out to the Ahl ul Bayt (a.s.) after the demise of Prophet (s.a.). Among the hardships that the Ahl ul Bayt (a.s.) were made to face, was Karbala. Allah had informed the Prophet (s.a.) about the incident of Karbala through Jibrail. The Prophet (s.a.) was always very grievous and sorrowful about the incidents that were to follow him. So Allah (as to console him) taught the prophet (s.a.) Ziyarat Ashura and enumerated its benefits in the world and the hereafter. And Allah took it up on Himself to grant all the requests and ease all hardships through its recitation. 1 Allah gave this Ziyarat to Jibrail and asked him to present it to the Prophet (s.a.), so as to gladden the Ahl ul Bayt (a.s.) and their Shias, the reciters of this Ziyarat would be contented and pleased with its benefits in the hereafter and gain relief from the adversities of this world.

  • Naqshbandi Sufi, Persian Poet
ABD AL-RAHMAN JAMI: “NAQSHBANDI SUFI, PERSIAN POET A Dissertation Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirement for The Degree Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of the Ohio State University By Farah Fatima Golparvaran Shadchehr, M.A. The Ohio State University 2008 Approved by Professor Stephen Dale, Advisor Professor Dick Davis Professor Joseph Zeidan ____________________ Advisor Graduate Program in History Copyright by Farah Shadchehr 2008 ABSTRACT The era of the Timurids, the dynasty that ruled Transoxiana, Iran, and Afghanistan from 1370 to 1506 had a profound cultural and artistic impact on the history of Central Asia, the Ottoman Empire, and Mughal India in the early modern era. While Timurid fine art such as miniature painting has been extensively studied, the literary production of the era has not been fully explored. Abd al-Rahman Jami (817/1414- 898/1492), the most renowned poet of the Timurids, is among those Timurid poets who have not been methodically studied in Iran and the West. Although, Jami was recognized by his contemporaries as a major authority in several disciplines, such as science, philosophy, astronomy, music, art, and most important of all poetry, he has yet not been entirely acknowledged in the post Timurid era. This dissertation highlights the significant contribution of Jami, the great poet and Sufi thinker of the fifteenth century, who is regarded as the last great classical poet of Persian literature. It discusses his influence on Persian literature, his central role in the Naqshbandi Order, and his input in clarifying Ibn Arabi's thought. Jami spent most of his life in Herat, the main center for artistic ability and aptitude in the fifteenth century; the city where Jami grew up, studied, flourished and produced a variety of prose and poetry.

Negotiating Shīʿī Identity and Orthodoxy through Canonizing Ideologies about Women in Twelver Shīʿī Aḥādīth on Pre-Islamic Sacred History in the Qurʾān Submitted by Amina Inloes to the University of Exeter as a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Arab and Islamic Studies, August 2015. This thesis is available for Library use on the understanding that it is copyright material and that no quotation from the thesis may be published without proper acknowledgement. I certify that all material in this thesis which is not my own work has been identified and that no material has previously been submitted and approved for the award of a degree by this or any other University. Signature: …………………………………………………………………… 1 Abstract Shīʿī aḥādīth, particularly on women, are an immensely understudied area. Studies on Shīʿī aḥādīth on women usually centre on Fāṭimah al-Zahrāʾ, and little research explores pre-Islamic sacred female figures in Shīʿī aḥādīth. At the same time, there an urgent interest in Shīʿism as well as women in Islam, and a desire for new methods to be applied as well as new questions to be asked. This thesis will analyse Shīʿī aḥādīth about women in pre-Islamic sacred history who appear in the Qurʾān (focusing on Eve, Sārah, Hājar, Zulaykhā, Bilqīs, and the Virgin Mary), and apply the methodologies of ideological criticism and feminist hermeneutics (to be explained in Chapter 1) to explore the subtexts about the essential nature and role of women communicated through these narrations. In addition to exploring the roots of these ideas, it will compare them against the contemporary Shīʿī ideology of gender referred to as the ‘separate-but-equal’ ideology to explore how well this ideology corresponds to Shīʿī narrations.

  • The Source of Ziyarat 'Ashura` and Its Authenticity
Pubblicata su Al-Islam.org (https://www.al-islam.org) Home > The Sacred Effusion Volume 1 > The Source of Ziyarat ‘Ashura` and its Authenticity > Other Ways of Establishing Authenticity The Source of Ziyarat ‘Ashura` and its Authenticity Ziyarat ‘Ashura` is a sacred tradition (hadith qudsi) which is authentic and veracious. Its main references are two fundamental works of authority: 1. Misbah al-Mutahajjid by Shaykh al-Tusi 2. Kamil al-Ziyarat by Ibn Qulawayh All the traditions that narrate this ziyara are proven by scholars of hadith to be sound and veracious. In order to establish their authenticity, they have discussed all the chains of narration at length and proven the reliability of every narrator. Those interested in understanding the intricacies of the traditions may refer to works written in this regard.1 The contemporary venerated jurisconsult, Ayatullah Sayyid al-Shubayri al-Zanjani (may Allah protect his noble spirit) was asked about the authenticity of Ziyarat ‘Ashura` and he responded saying: ﺑﻐﺾ اﻟﻨﻈﺮ ﻋﻦ اﻟﺘﺄﻳﻴﺪات اﻟﻐﻴﺒﻴﺔ اﻟﻮاردة ﺑﻄﺮق ﻣﻌﺘﺒﺮة ﺣﻮل زﻳﺎرة ﻋﺎﺷﻮراء واﻟﺘ ﺑﺮأﺳﻬﺎ دﻟﻴﻞ ﻋﻠ اﻋﺘﺒﺎر ﻫﺬه اﻟﺰﻳﺎرة اﻟﺸﺮﻳﻔﺔ، ﻓﺈنﱠ اﻟﺴﻨﺪ اﻟﻤﺬﻛﻮر ﻓ ﻣﺼﺒﺎح اﻟﻤﺘﻬﺠﺪ ﻓ ذﻳﻞ ﻫﺬه اﻟﺰﻳﺎرة ﺳﻨﺪ ﺻﺤﻴﺢ. Disregarding what has been narrated from reliable sources about its endorsement from the unseen realm (al-ta’yidat al-ghaybiyya), which in itself suffices as a proof of the authenticity of this sacred Ziyarat, the chain of narration mentioned in Misbah al-Mutahajjid after this Ziyarat is veracious.2 Other Ways of Establishing Authenticity Apart from the aforesaid, the authenticity of this radiant Ziyarat can be established through other methods considered in the science of hadith.
