The Cougars' first season as a Division I member was 1991-92. CofC boasts a 533-240 (.690) all-time record since joining the NCAA Division I ranks. The Cougars' all-time winning percentage currently ranks sixth on the active NCAA Division I list behind the likes of Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, Duke and UNLV. 10 Number of CofC returners including the team's top returning scorer in junior Cameron Johnson (12.3 ppg), a 2016 All-CAA Third Team and CAA All-Defensive Team selection. 8 The final NCAA statistical national ranking the Cougars finished in scoring defense holding opponents to 62.0 points per game in 2015- 16. They also led the CAA in the same category. 7 CofC will face seven opponents on its schedule that advanced to postseason play a year ago including defending national champion Villanova on Nov. 23 at The Pavilion in Villanova, Pa.     May 15, 2018 Charleston, SC A meeting of Charleston County Council was held on the 15th day of May 2018, in the Beverly T. Craven Council Chambers, Second Floor of the Lonnie Hamilton, III Public Services Building, located at 4045 Bridge View Drive, North Charleston, South Carolina. Present at the meeting were the following members of Council: A. Victor Rawl, Chairman, who presided, Henry E. Darby, Anna B. Johnson, Brantley Moody, Teddie Pryor, Joseph K. Qualey, Herbert R. Sass, III, Dickie Schweers, and J. Elliott Summey. County Administrator Jennifer Miller and County Attorney Joe Dawson were also present. Reverend Robert Reid gave the invocation and Mr. Sass led the pledge to the flag. The Clerk reported that in compliance with the Freedom of Information Act, notice of meetings and agendas were furnished to the news media and persons requesting notification. The Chairman stated that the next item on the agenda was resolutions and recognitions. Mr. Summey moved for approval, seconded by Mr. Moody, and carried. Public Works Director of Public Works Jim Neal and staff accepted a resolution proclaiming the week Week of May 20-26, 2018 as Public Works Week. Mr. Neal recognized the winners of the Resolution Charleston County Backhoe Rodeo Champions. He stated these operators demonstrate the skill and ability represented by the blue-collar staff of Charleston County Public Works who are out there every day working hard. The Clarkston boys brought home the first state trophy in 1940, and 41 other teams have since realized the big prize in the ensuing 76 years. From legendary coach Elmer Morrow ’s dominating boys teams at Druid Hills in the 1950s to the current boys powerhouses at Miller Grove and Columbia, the list of win- ners is an impressive one. Druid Hills knocked off Avondale (50 -44), Tifton (47 -44) and Jeff Davis (55 -42) in state finals in 1953, 1954 and 1957 respectively. Stone Mountain and Clarkston on the boys side, and Druid Hills and Stone Mountain among the girls served as the other early local powers. E.L. Rainey , another of DeKalb County’s original hoop coaching giants, led Stone Mountain to the Class B crown in 1957. Tom Church guided Clarkston to its second boys state championship with a victo- rious effort in the class B final in 1964. The girls matched the boys for the first time at Druid Hill in 1960, with Virginia Canady coaching that squad to the Class AAA title.
