- GENERAL AREA DESCRIPTION -

WALL A WALL A AVA The Walla Walla Valley’s geology, climate and location combine to create a terroir that rivals condi- tions in any -producing region of the world. The growth of the wine industry in Walla Walla over the past decade has brought an infux of viticulture expertise to the valley, resulting in an ever- higher standard of grape production.

The geography of the Walla Walla Valley is uniquely suited to the cultivation of exceptional fruit, the frst, and most important, component in a truly memorable wine.

In addition to sharing the same latitude as many of the famous French wine regions in Bordeaux and Burgundy, which gives vineyards a longer, more varied growing season, the 530 square-mile Walla Walla Valley Appellation benefts from rich layers of topsoil laid down by series of catastrophic pre- historic foods. This ancient cycle of fooding and drainage left the area with layers of loess, silt and cobbles which have contributed to the area’s rich agricultural tradition and now provide an ideal envi- ronment for growing high-quality fruit.
