Steady As She Goes... by Lena Hedayat, Staff Writer 2006-2007 http://www.elsegundousd.com/eshs/bayeagle0607/October11thP22Stea... Steady As She Goes... by Lena Hedayat, Staff Writer Over the summer The Raconteurs have been steadily gaining popularity. Their debut album, Broken Boy Soldiers, was released May 16, 2006. The story began when Jack White (vocals, guitars, keyboards, synthesizer) and Brendan Benson (vocals, guitars, keyboards) wrote the hit, "Steady as She Goes." This song led to the creation of the band, which came to include Jack Lawrence (bass guitar) and Patrick Keeler (drums). The recording took place in Detroit, Michigan during the year 2005. The Raconteurs are a relatively new band, but everyone's already talking about them. In my opinion, I haven't heard anything this good in a while. Their voices have an almost British sound, and a unique blend. Don't just think because you've heard the instant success, "Steady as She Goes", on the radio that you've heard it all. This band goes way beyond the realm of reality; when you listen to them, you're not hearing the same sad love story over and over, or a song about some depressed teenager. It's something fresh, exciting, and you will look forward to them. They aren't one of those typical rock bands where you can't tell one song from the next. You hear the irregular heartbeat sound in the simple beginning of "Steady as She Goes", but once the overlapping harmony and guitars begin, you just want to dance and sing along. Another big hit, "Broken Boy Soldiers", causes you to sit up a little straighter and listen a little harder. The guitar has a great sound throughout the whole song and has a 60s rock flare to it, and you get so engrossed in the song, it seems to end too soon. Another unusual but impressive, track that many of you probably haven't heard, is "Level." It has an eerie beginning, and changes the mood slightly. The thing about The Raconteurs is that you can't quite guess their influence. They have a retro sound, but it's hard to place. Each member is involved in separate bands, and have much music experience. If you are a White Stripes fan, then you have probably heard of Jack White before. He was born and raised in Detroit, worked for a few underground bands, and at an upholstery shop, eventually opening his own store. White loved to write songs, and when his business with upholstery wasn't doing too well, he began his dream of starting a band. That was how The White Stripes came about, and White became known. He, along with Benson, wrote every song included in The Raconteurs' debut. Brendan Benson also grew up in Detroit, and has three solo albums. He previously worked with The White Stripes. Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler are both part of the band Greenhornes. Lawrence has been involved with other bands, and played bass for a singer, Loretta Lynn, whom Jack White also worked with. Every member goes way back with one another. I suggest you try them out if you haven't already. The Raconteurs are new, different, and fun to listen to. They are definitely worth it. Together, these talented guys are something pretty amazing. Each song tells its own story, and, not coincidentally, a raconteur is a story teller. So let their story begin. 1 of 1 6/27/2008 10:46 AM.

It Might Get Loud tells the personal stories, in their own words, of three generations of electric guitar virtuosos – The Edge (U2), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), and Jack White (The White Stripes). It reveals how each developed his unique sound and style of playing favorite instruments, guitars both found and invented. Concentrating on the artist’s musical rebellion, traveling with him to influential locations, provoking rare discussion as to how and why he writes and plays, this film lets you witness intimate moments and hear new music from each artist. The movie revolves around a day when Jimmy Page, Jack White, and The Edge first met and sat down together to share their stories, teach and play. Long Synopsis Who hasn't wanted to be a rock star, join a band or play electric guitar? Music resonates, moves and inspires us. Strummed through the fingers of The Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack White, somehow it does more. Such is the premise of It Might Get Loud, a new documentary conceived by producer Thomas Tull.

ANALYSIS The Official UK Singles & Albums Charts are compiled by the Official Charts Company, based on a sample of more than 15,000 physical and digital outlets. They count actual sales and audio streams from last Friday to Thursday, based on sales of downloads, CDs, vinyl and other physical formats and audio streams weighted using SEA2 methodology. Highway to hell: Lewis Capaldi returns to top spot with debut album Q BY ALAN JONES ethroned by Bruce Springsteen last week, and trailing Will Young for much of the latest frame, Lewis DCapaldi edged past the latter to return to No.1. The Scot’s debut, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, bounces 3-1 to secure its fifth week at the summit, although its sales are off 21.00% week-on-week to 19,003 (including 11,085 from sales-equivalent streams) its lowest haul yet. Denied his fifth No.1 album at the death, Will Young’s seventh studio set, Lexicon, opens at No.2 on sales of 16,706 copies. He thus remains tied with Cheryl (two solo, two with Girls Aloud), One Direction and Olly Murs as the reality TV graduates with most No.1 albums. Lexicon is No.1 on both physical sales (11,752) and paid-for downloads (4,274), being No.1 let down only by streaming. Recording Young’s lowest first week sale for a studio album yet, it is the successor to 85% Proof, which previously held that record with 21,320, but which Lewis Capaldi - Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent (Virgin EMI) nevertheless opened at No.1 in 2015, and has sold 96,356 copies.

It’s certainly no secret that we bolster a rich history, originated by William F. and Theobald Ludwig in 1909. These pioneers laid a solid foundation of drummers and percussionists creating instruments for the needs of generations of players. That tradition continued with William F. Ludwig II (or “The Chief” as he has come to be known). The Chief’s dedication to the Ludwig Legacy went way beyond his name. It was his dedication to everyone from the craftsmen at the Ludwig factory, to the drummers who played his creations that established the feeling of a true Family. From Damen Avenue in Chicago to our current facility in Monroe, NC., The Ludwig Family continues on in its founders’ tradition as a notable American manufacturer.

  • The Raconteurs
