PAGE 3 holiday concert DECEMBER 7, 2017 | BIESTER AUDITORIUM We celebrate Mr. Charles Snider on his final concert this evening as Glenbard East Accompanist. We thank him for his thirty years of dedicated service and exquisite musicianship and scholarship. A native of Macon, Georgia, Charles Snider attended Berry College in Rome, Georgia, then took his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in organ performance from the University of Montevallo in Alabama as a student of Dr. Betty Louise Lumby. In addition, he has taken courses at the Royal School of Church Music in Croydon, England, and done post-graduate work at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois under Richard Enright and Wolfgang Rubsam. He joined the music faculty of Glenbard East in the fall of 1987 and served the majority of his tenure with former choral director Ross Heise. During his time at East he has accompanied the choral program and other choirs on several domestic and European tours, including singing opportunities at Washington National Cathedral, Cologne Cathedral in Germany, Reims Cathedral in France, as well as Canterbury Cathedral, St. Paul’s, London, Ely Cathedral, St. Alban’s Cathedral, Lincoln Cathedral, and Westminster Abbey in England. Mr. Snider has also had the opportunity to sing and record with both the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus under Robert Shaw, and seven years with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus with Margaret Hillis. During this time he participated with the orchestra and chorus under the direction of Sir George Solti in performances in Washington, DC’s Kennedy Center, the Ravinia Festival, Carnegie Hall, the Salzburg Festival in Austria, and the Proms Concerts in London’s Royal Albert Hall. He also appears as a featured organist on two CD recordings from St. Luke’s Church in Evanston, “Blow Ye the Trumpet in Zion” and “A Fair and Delectable Place.” He was the Organist and Choirmaster at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Glen Ellyn for over twenty years, has served for several years as chairman for the Bishop’s Advisory Commission on Church Music for the Diocese of Chicago, and is a member of the Association of Anglican Musicians. He is also a published composer with two current anthems, “Was Ever Grief Like Mine?” by Hope Publishing Company of Carol Stream, and “Adam Lay Ybounden”, published by G.I.A. Publications, Inc. Thank you, Mr. Snider! The Glenbard East Music Association is collecting funds to refurbish or replace the grand piano in the Choir Room in Mr. Snider’s name. If you would like to honor Mr. Snider with a contribution, you may do so in the following ways. Cash donations will be accepted tonight at both the Snider Alumni Choir table in the Foyer and with the ushers as you exit the auditorium. You may also send checks to GEMA (1014 S. Main Street, Lombard, IL 60148) with “Piano Fund” in the subject line. GEMA is a 501c3 non-profit organization and will provide receipts for tax purposes for all check donations. Thank you for your consideration!
