It is a trip of 155 miles and must be one of the longest in this league. And they have to do the same trip in reverse after the match! Still, we had to do the same trip in December, when the Citizens overcame the Robins by two goals to one. Both clubs are only one point apart and are both are next to each other just in the top half of the table. Winchester do have two games in hand, but it will be a close game today. Matt Evans is suspended for this game following his sending off for two yellow against Larkhall last Saturday. We are through to the semi finals of the Hampshire Senior Cup for the second year running following our one nil win over Sholing on Tuesday night. The scoreline could have been greater but for a fine display by their goalkeeper Gosney. We are now in the draw for the semis with Basingstoke and AFC Bournemouth also through so far. Hartney Wintney and AFC Totton are still to play next Tuesday. Two notes for your diaries off the pitch. As usual, we will be venue for the end of the Winchester 10K race on Sunday 26th February. We will also be hosting the annual Winchester City Classic Car and Bike Meet once again on Bank Holiday Monday 29th May from 8am to 12 noon. Please come if you can and if you are able to help, please let me know. It is a big event and we can do with all the help that we can get. Another bit of information is that we have changed the day of any home midweek games from Wednesday to Tuesday. There are none in the diary at the moment, but in future Tuesday will be the night for such matches. Dedicated to City's yellow coats! 66 6 19 6 Malcolm's Welcome We welcome Bideford to Winchester for this afternoon’s game. The only previous game between the clubs prior to this season was the 2004 F. A. Vase semi final where we won the second leg 4-0 after the first leg finished all square at 3-3, with Andy Forbes and Ian Mancey scoring three times for Winchester over the two legs. That season both ourselves and Bideford finished champions of their league with impressive records so this was a good result for us.The two clubs could have also met in this season’s F. A. Trophy if Bideford had beaten Fleet, but in the last Saturday game before Christmas we won 2-1 at Bideford with Stuart Green and a late Craig Feeney penalty giving us the points having been 1-0 behind at the interval, but looking the more likely team to score during the first half. Bideford football club were formed in 1890’s and spent a lot of their early career in the North Devon League and were in that league until they joined the Western League in 1949. They won division 3 of this league at the first attempt with 19 wins and 1 draw from 20 league games.

We particularly welcome the players, officials and supporters that have made the journey East from Taunton and we hope you enjoy your evening with us and safe journey home! Congratulations to Taunton Town on winning the title that they have thoroughly deserved and good luck for next season as they move into the Southern Premier League. Both sides come into the game on the back of draws at the weekend. Taunton drew with fellow high-flyers, Wimborne Town. Whilst the Citizens came from behind to draw 1-1 away at Swindon Supermarine, thanks to Rob Carr’s late second-half leveller. In recent weeks, there have been lots of goings-on in the former capital. Pat Cox has left the club by mutual consent. Whilst Paul Murray and David Malone will be remaining at the club, albeit with Paul Murray in a different capacity. Elliott Trodd has agreed to become the new Club Chairman. Darrell Gowers will be stepping down as Vice-Chairman, and Martin Moody has relinquished his role as Secretary, with Alan Davis coming into the role to replace Martin. City’s recent form has been good with a comprehensive 4-1 home win against Yate Town last time out at the Simplyhealth City Ground, and that was followed a fine comeback at Salisbury.

One such game took place at the beginning of March 1972, when Don Revie‟s Leeds United side gave a performance that would be cited forever as their coup de grace. It provided the cornerstone of possibly the most memorable edition of BBC‟s long running Match of the Day programme. The fixture was also categorically the lowest point in the career of Southampton‟s Scottish goalkeeper, Eric Martin; the television coverage made it even more disastrous for him than the 8-0 defeat the Saints suffered the previous November at Everton‟s Goodison Park. When the Beeb decided to cover Southampton‟s visit to Elland Road on 4 March, they were taking no significant risk. Two weeks earlier, the cameras had been present at the same ground when Leeds annihilated Manchester United 5-1. The Yorkshiremen‟s form that day had been phenomenal, easily enough to sweep the Reds aside; the Whites‟ style and finesse The Goodison scoreboard in November 1971 tells the delighted the watching television audience. story of a debacle for Saints keeper Eric Martin Ted Bates‟ Saints team were struggling badly at the time of their visit to the West Riding and were generally considered to be little more than cannon fodder for Revie‟s Leeds, who had been beaten only once since losing 2-1 to the same Southampton side at the Dell on 13 November.
