  • SHANAHAN: “Kyle Juszczyk Had a Hand Contusion. X-Rays Looked Okay. They Just Told Me They Got It. Raheem Mostert Had a Thigh Contusion on the Last Day of Practice
Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers Saturday, August 24, 2019 Preseason Game 3 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan SHANAHAN: “Kyle Juszczyk had a hand contusion. X-rays looked okay. They just told me they got it. Raheem Mostert had a thigh contusion on the last day of practice. That is why he did not dress today.” Q: Did you feel good about the first team offense? SHANAHAN: “It was definitely better than the week before and that would have been hard not to do, but it was cool that they got to stay out there longer to get in a little bit of a rhythm. We started off a little rough, but completed a good third down which allowed us to stay on the field some. I thought they had a good first half.” Q: Did you think Jimmy Garoppolo looked more comfortable? SHANAHAN: “Yeah, it is not a big surprise when a guy is out for a long time, especially coming off of an ACL. That is just how football goes sometimes, especially in the preseason. Last week was not nearly as bad as it looked, but it definitely did look that bad live and today everyone was on the same page a little bit better. We moved the chains a couple of times and you just get into a rhythm and you start forgetting about things and playing football.” Q: Do you think Jimmy settled down? SHANAHAN: “I thought so. It looked like it. He definitely missed a couple early, which guys do. That is not always coming off of an injury.

  • Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Press Conference – September 6, 2019 San Francisco 49Ers Listen to Audio I Media Center
Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Press Conference – September 6, 2019 San Francisco 49ers Listen to Audio I Media Center OpeninG comments: “For the injuries: [WR Jalen] Hurd, [WR] Trent Taylor and [DB] Jimmie Ward will be out. We’ve got [DL Nick] Bosa, [C/G/ Weston] Richburg, [CB Jason] Verrett and [CB K’Waun] Williams as questionable.” Have you liked what you’ve seen out of Richburg in the last week and a half? Do you think he can start for you? “Yeah, I do think he’s got a chance. He’s had a good week. It’s gotten better each day. The big thing is traveling this far. We want to see how it reacts on the plane. Sometimes guys who are going through things it can swell up a little bit. We’ll see how he is tomorrow, but it’s been a solid week.” I think you said on the radio that there was a chance that Jimmie Ward could play with a cast, but that it miGht be next week that that’s more of a possibility. Will he be able to play with a cast? Don’t you need your hands, your fingers for that position? “I mean, you need to jam people, but we’ve had, [LB Dre] Greenlaw played with a cast throughout the entire preseason, [LB] Elijah [Lee] is playing with one out there right now. Guys play with casts. [Former 49ers S] Ronnie Lott played without a pinkie. You wouldn’t choose to. It’s easier to catch the ball when you have two hands, but you can still, as long as you can protect it with the cast where you can jam people and tackle people, which very rarely do you make tackles with your fingers.
