The Waikato is getting a glitzy new addition to its social calendar this winter and organisers say it won’t just be a great night out, but a great way to support Kiwis with cancer. The inaugural LJ Hooker Cancer Society Ball is on Saturday, August 5 and with up to 400 people expected to mingle, dine and dance at the Mystery Creek Events Centre, it is expected to make an impact. With an ambitious fundraising target of $100K, organisers have big goals for the event, which they hope will become a regular fundraiser for the charity. “It’s a huge target for our first event but, with the support of the community, we’re optimistic we can achieve it,” says Catriona Findlay, fundraising manager for the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Cancer Society. “Everyone we’ve spoken to so far has really embraced the event concept. “All proceeds will go towards research and supportive care services for people affected by cancer within the region so it’s a great event for locals to get behind.” TC250517DT01 The black tie affair will include a PINK Ribbon Breakfast guest three-course dinner and a live perform- speaker Tessa Hopson who ance from funk band Late 80s Mercedes, TC250517DT02 carries the BRCA1 gene. while a golden ticket raffle and an auction GYDE WANSBONE Pink Ribbon Breakfast at Te Awamutu Club. of sought-after items and experiences will help raise money on the night.
