  • Gladys Knight
Contact: Caitlyn Baker [email protected] (805) 944-7780 (c) (805) 350-7913 (o) R&B LEGEND GLADYS KNIGHT TO PERFORM AT CHUMASH CASINO RESORT SANTA YNEZ, CA – August 12, 2019 – Gladys Knight, the “Empress of Soul” who has won seven Grammy Awards throughout the span of her iconic career, is coming to the Chumash Casino Resort’s Samala Showroom at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2019. Tickets for the show are $79, $89, $99, $109 & $119. Knight has recorded two No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 singles, 11 No. 1 R&B singles and six No. 1 R&B albums. Knight was born in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1952 at the age of 7, she won Ted Mac’s The Original Amateur Hour TV show contest. This event marked her first encounter with fame. Later that year, she formed a musical group named “the Pips” with her brother, sister and cousins. By the end of the decade, the act had begun to tour and eventually her sister and one of her cousins were replaced. By 1961, the group released a single on the tiny Atlanta Huntom label called “Every Beat of My Heart.” In 1966, Gladys Night and the Pips signed on with Motown Records with whom they scored several major hit singles, including “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” “Take Me in Your Arms and Love Me,” and “If I Were Your Woman.” In 1973, they left Motown for a better deal with Buddah Records. Here they achieved significant success with hits such as the Grammy Award-winning track “Midnight Train to Georgia,” “I’ve Got to Use My Imagination” and “Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me.” The group continued to have hits until the late 1970s when they were forced to record separately due to legal issues, resulting in Knight’s first solo LP recordings – “Miss Gladys Knight” on Buddah Records in 1978 and “Gladys Knight” on Columbia Records in 1979.

  • Nielsen Music Year-End Report Canada 2016
NIELSEN MUSIC YEAR-END REPORT CANADA 2016 NIELSEN MUSIC YEAR-END REPORT CANADA 2016 Copyright © 2017 The Nielsen Company 1 Welcome to the annual Nielsen Music Year End Report for Canada, providing the definitive 2016 figures and charts for the music industry. And what a year it was! The year had barely begun when we were already saying goodbye to musical heroes gone far too soon. David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Glenn Frey, Leon Russell, Maurice White, Prince, George Michael ... the list goes on. And yet, despite the sadness of these losses, there is much for the industry to celebrate. Music consumption is at an all-time high. Overall consumption of album sales, song sales and audio on-demand streaming volume is up 5% over 2015, fueled by an incredible 203% increase in on-demand audio streams, enough to offset declines in sales and return a positive year for the business. 2016 also marked the highest vinyl sales total to date. It was an incredible year for Canadian artists, at home and abroad. Eight different Canadian artists had #1 albums in 2016, led by Drake whose album Views was the biggest album of the year in Canada as well as the U.S. The Tragically Hip had two albums reach the top of the chart as well, their latest release and their 2005 best of album, and their emotional farewell concert in August was something we’ll remember for a long time. Justin Bieber, Billy Talent, Céline Dion, Shawn Mendes, Leonard Cohen and The Weeknd also spent time at #1. Break out artist Alessia Cara as well as accomplished superstar Michael Buble also enjoyed successes this year.

DESERT ROSE BAND~ACOUSTIC (biography) ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME MEMBER CHRIS HILLMAN AND THE DESERT ROSE BAND~ACOUSTIC TO PERFORM IN A RARE APPEARANCE Joining Chris Hillman in this acoustic appearance are John Jorgenson on guitar/mandolin, Herb Pedersen on guitar and Bill Bryson on bass. Chris Hillman was one of the original members of The Byrds, which also included Roger McGuinn, David Crosby, Gene Clark and Michael Clarke. The Byrds were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. After his departure from the Byrds, Hillman, along with collaborator Gram Parsons, was a key figure in the development of country-rock. In the 1980s Chris formed The Desert Rose Band which became one of country music’s most successful acts throughout the 1980s and 1990s, earning numerous ‘Top 10’ and ‘Number 1’ hits. The band’s success lead to three Country Music Association Awards, and two Grammy nominations. Although the Desert Rose Band disbanded in the early 1990s, they performed a reunion concert in 2008 and have since played a few shows together in select venues. • Peter Novelli Peternovelli.Com
Peter Novelli peternovelli.com Guitarist / singer / songwriter Peter Novelli is based in New Orleans. The Peter Novelli Band plays Louisiana roots and blues, a blend of blues-rock-R&B-funk with some zydeco-cajun influences. Novelli’s CD Louisiana Roots & Blues (June 12 release) with his core rhythm section Darryl White (drums, formerly w/ Tab Benoit and Chris Thomas King), Chris Chew (bass, North Mississippi Allstars), Joe Krown (B3 and piano, formerly w/ late Gatemouth Brown), and special guests Chubby Carrier (Grammy-winning zydeco accordionist), Chris Thomas King (lap slide guitar, Grammy “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou”), Shamarr Allen (trumpet) and Elaine and Lisa Foster on vocals. Novelli’s debut CD, produced by bassist David Hyde, hit the charts within a month of release and gathered widespread critical acclaim. His originals, with a few selected covers, made a journey through Louisiana-American blues-roots music. Guests include Dr. John, Paul Barrere, Augie Meyers, the late Gatemouth Brown’s rhythm section, and top Lousiana musicians. The CD includes an historical Tribute To Slim Harpo, with members of Harpo’s band including James Johnson, and interviews with Johnson, the late Raful Neal and “Big” Johnny Thomassie. Novelli started violin at age 6, picked up guitar at 14 after hearing a BB King record. The intensity, passion and raw emotional content of some of the blues masters (black and white, American and British) stuck in his ear and that is what drives him to this day. He likes to combine this feel with harmonic ideas of jazz, the relentless groove of zydeco, and just about any cool and unusual style of music or rhythm that works.
