November 2015 Dear Gold Rhythm Dancers, We are extremely excited to release this new DVIDA Gold Rhythm Manual. We are certain you will find it invaluable for learning and teaching these beautiful Gold Rhythm figures. People often ask who develops asyllabus for DVIDA. This task goes to the outstanding Champions you see on the corresponding DVDs. Kasia Kozak and Donald Johnson created the figures for this Gold Syllabus and have done a fantastic job presenting the character and styling of each dance. They have shared their years of experience and insights, making the DVDs an extremely valuable resource. We also thank Toby and Harmony Munroe for their excellent teaching and demonstration of the Gold West Coast Swing. My job was to transfer the visual information into the written word. I created a new template which I feel works well for this style and level. The Leader’s and Follower’s parts are side by side so that it is easy to see both roles at a glance. The information is given in summary form, rather than listing each specific element. My intention was to provide an effective and clear language to support dancers in recalling and clarifying the figures, and to give teachers the language to teach effectively. Writing a manual is not a one person job. I am fortunate to have worked with an amazing team to edit and help me manage the project. I am deeply grateful to Heather Lenahan and Kathryn Moody for their exacting and intelligent work. I hope you will get the opportunity someday to meet and learn from these top-of–the-line teachers. As always, we welcome your comments and feedback.
