BOWLER (Kalgoorlie) [9.01 am]: On behalf of the member for Alfred Cove, I present the following petition — To the Honourable Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of Western Australia in Parliament assembled. We, the undersigned residents of Western Australia, respectfully request that the Legislative Assembly increase the funds and resources allocated to the State Underground Power Program, originally introduced to provide underground power to established suburbs. There are approximately 340,000 homes within the Perth Metropolitan area still to be converted. At the rate of 3,000 — 4,000 homes converted per annum, conversion will not be completed for another 100 years. We ask that Ardross, Alfred Cove, Attadale North, Bicton, Booragoon, Melville and Palmyra, in the Alfred Cove Electorate be include in Round 5 of the Program because: • Power reliability will be enhanced; • Faults caused by storms, trees and wildlife will be reduced; • Community safety will be enhanced by reducing hazards caused by fallen power lines and ageing wooden electricity poles; • Amenity of suburbs will be improved when trees do not have to be pruned or removed to keep them clear of overhead wires; and • Residents will have to pay more for conversion in the future because of the increasing cost of materials and labour. The petition complies with the standards of the house and contains 36 signatures. [See petition 292.] PAPER TABLED A paper was tabled and ordered to lie upon the table of the house.

    MAIN ROADS WESTERN AUSTRALIA NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2016 Mitchell Freeway Extension Burns Beach Road to Hester Avenue BIG YEAR AHEAD The project is ramping up for a busy year ahead with works to extend Mitchell Freeway to Hester Avenue in Clarkson well underway. Project Manager Chris Raykos said the first six months of construction was hugely successful, setting the project on track for a mid-2017 completion. “We made significant progress in 2015, completing the detailed design and over 50% of the bulk earthworks.” Major works will continue in the coming months including earthworks, noise wall installation, fauna and pedestrian underpasses, Neerabup and Hester Avenue bridge construction and upgrade works along Hester Avenue and Wanneroo Road. Mitchell Freeway Extension is a $261.4 million project funded by the Aerial view of the future freeway alignment looking north from Burns Beach Road. Australian ($209.1 million) and West Australian ($52.3 million) Governments. DID YOU KNOW? The equivalent of 700 Olympic size swimming pools of material is expected to be moved by project completion. Major earthworks are expected to continue across the project area until mid-2016. PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS BENEFIT FROM EXTENSION Pedestrians and cyclists will benefit from more than 15 km of new shared paths that will be installed as part of the project.     MAIN ROADS WESTERN AUSTRALIA NEWSLETTER JULY 2015 Mitchell Freeway Extension Burns Beach Road to Hester Avenue An official ground breaking ceremony held in May signified the start of construction on the six kilometre Mitchell Freeway extension to Clarkson. Western Australian Minister for Transport, Dean Nalder along with Members of State and Federal Parliament, representatives from the City of Wanneroo and key project team members to kick off the project. The ceremony, held on site at the point where the new Mitchell Freeway / Neerabup Road interchange will be constructed, recognised the extension as a vital link that will take pressure off local roads and stimulate investment to enhance development of Perth’s northern corridor.
