We shall enter your gates with thanksgiving, go into your courts with praise, * give thanks to you and call upon your Name. For you are good; your mercy is everlasting; * and your faithfulness endures from age to age. Officiant Alleluia, Christ is shown forth in glory: People O come, let us adore him, alleluia. Psalms Appointed read in unison Psalms 117 and 118 Psalm 117 Laudate Dominum 1 Praise God, all you nations; * laud the Most High, all you peoples. 2 For God’s loving-kindness toward us is great, * and the faithfulness of God endures for ever. Alleluia! Psalm 118 Confitemini Domino 1 Give thanks to God who is good; * God’s mercy endures for ever. 2 Let Israel now proclaim * “God’s mercy endures for ever.” 3 Let the house of Aaron now proclaim, * “God’s mercy endures for ever.” 4 Let those who fear God now proclaim, * “God’s mercy endures for ever.” 5 I called out in my distress; * God answered by setting me free. 6 The Mighty One is at my side, therefore I will not fear; * what can anyone do to me? 7 God is at my side to help me; * I will triumph over those who hate me. 8 It is better to rely on God * than to put any trust in flesh. 9 It is better to rely on God * than to put any trust in rulers. 10 All the ungodly encompass me; * in the name of God I will repel them. 11 They hem me in, they hem me in on every side; * in the name of God I will repel them. 12 They swarm about me like bees; they blaze like a fire of thorns; * in the name of God I will repel them. 13 I was pressed so hard that I almost fell, * but God came to my help. 14 God is my strength and my song * and has become my salvation. 15 There is a sound of exultation and victory * in the tents of the righteous: 16 “The right hand of the Most High has triumphed; * the right hand of the Most High is exalted; the right hand of the Most High has triumphed!” 17 I shall not die, but live * and declare the works of God. 18 God has punished me sorely, * but did not hand me over to death. 19 Open for me the gates of righteousness; * I will enter them; I will offer thanks to God. 20 “This is the gate of the Holy One; * those who are righteous may enter.” 21 I will give thanks to you, for you answered me * and have become my salvation. 22 The same stone which the builders rejected * has become the chief cornerstone. 23 This is God’s doing, * and it is marvelous in our eyes. 24 On this day the Holy One has acted; * we will rejoice and be glad in it. 25 Hosanna, O God, hosanna! * O Holy One, send us now success. 26 Blest is the one who comes in the name of God; * we bless you from the house of God. 27 God is the Holy One who has shined upon us; * form a procession with branches up to the horns of the altar. 28 “You are my God, and I will thank you; * you are my God, and I will exalt you.” 29 Give thanks to God who is good; * God’s mercy endures for ever. Praise to the holy and undivided Trinity, one God: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. The Lessons First Reading Reader A reading from Isaiah 59:15-21 Truth is lacking, and whoever turns from evil is despoiled. The Lord saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice. He saw that there was no one, and was appalled that there was no one to intervene; so his own arm brought him victory, and his righteousness upheld him. He put on righteousness like a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and wrapped himself in fury as in a mantle. According to their deeds, so will he repay; wrath to his adversaries, requital to his enemies; to the coastlands he will render requital. So those in the west shall fear the name of the Lord, and those in the east, his glory; for he will come like a pent-up stream that the wind of the Lord drives on. And he will come to Zion as Redeemer, to those in Jacob who turn from transgression, says the Lord. And as for me, this is my covenant with them, says the Lord: my spirit that is upon you, and my words that I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouths of your children, or out of the mouths of your children’s children, says the Lord, from now on and for ever. Here ends the reading. read in unison Canticle 26 A Song of God’s Chosen One Isaiah 11:1-9 Refrain: All The earth shall be full of the knowledge of our God.. 1 Then a shoot will sprout from the stump of Jesse; from Jesse's roots, a branch will blossom: 2 The Spirit of YHWH Will rest on you-- a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of counsel and strength, a spirit of knowledge and reverence for YHWH. 3 You will delight in obeying YHWH, and you won't judge by appearances, or make decisions by hearsay. 4 You will treat poor people with fairness and will uphold the rights of the land's downtrodden. With a single word you will stike down tyrants; with your decrees you will execute evil people. 5 Justice will be the belt around this your waist- faithfulness will gird you up. 6 Then the wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat; the calf and the lion cub will graze together, and a little child will lead them. 7 The cow will feed with the bear; their young will lie down together. The lion will eat hay like the ox. 8 The baby will play next to the den of the cobra, and the toddler will dance over the viper's nest. 9 There will be no harm, no destruction anywhere in my holy mountain; for as water fills the sea, so the land will be filled with knowledge of YHWH. Praise to the holy and undivided Trinity, one God: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Refrain: All The earth shall be full of the knowledge of our God.. The Gospel Reader: A reading from the Gospel of John 4:46-54 Then he came again to Cana in Galilee where he had changed the water into wine. Now there was a royal official whose son lay ill in Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Then Jesus said to him, ‘Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.’ The official said to him, ‘Sir, come down before my little boy dies.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go; your son will live.’ The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started on his way. As he was going down, his slaves met him and told him that his child was alive. So he asked them the hour when he began to recover, and they said to him, ‘Yesterday at one in the afternoon the fever left him.’ The father realized that this was the hour when Jesus had said to him, ‘Your son will live.’ So he himself believed, along with his whole household.
