PKR Sec-Gen Post Not a Demotion, Says Rafizi Malaysiakini.Com Oct 13, 2014 PKR sec-gen post not a demotion, says Rafizi MalaysiaKini.com Oct 13, 2014 Newly-appointed PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli has refuted allegations that the appointment was a ‘demotion’ of sorts. Instead, Rafizi said, the post of secretary-general is the key to the party’s strength and machinery, as well as the nerve centre of the party. “The strength of the party depends on the effectiveness of the secretary-general’s office. It is certainly not a demotion,” he told Malaysiakini. Rafizi also rebutted allegations that the position was a ‘consolation’ as he had won in the party elections. “I did not lose the elections, I won. (It is just that) the party wants specific focus on upgrading organisational effectiveness.” However, he admitted that it would be a heavy responsibility, since he would be shouldering two posts. Apart from the secretary-general’s post, Rafizi is also one of the party’s elected vice-presidents. Nevertheless, Rafizi said, he would adhere to the party decision. PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail announced Rafizi’s appointment today. Apart from Rafizi’s appointment, Seri Andalas assemblyperson Dr Xavier Jayakumar and Penampang MP Darell Leiking were appointed as the party’s vice presidents. Former secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution (left) was appointed as a election co-director, together with Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar. Fahmi Fadzil remains as the communications director while Sim Tze Tzin replaces Rafizi as strategy director. The decision was made at a political bureau and central leadership council meeting Wan Azizah chaired last night. Meanwhile, Rafizi said he would in his work as secretary-general focus on several key issues, such as continuing efforts to strengthen the party machinery as well as up-skilling party workers to become more effective in election work. He also hopes to bring new talents and younger activists to prepare for the next generation of party leadership. “I will also focus on modernising communication and information infrastructure of the party, with emphasis on rural reach-out as well as strengthening Pakatan Rakyat through its secretaries council,” said the Pandan MP. "However, I asked that Azmin continues monitoring (election activities) due to his experience as election director," he said. On a separate matter, Anwar played down the suspension of two the Selangor PAS assemblypersons for going against their party in supporting Wan Azizah. "Never mind, they are still PAS members even though they have been suspended. It's not a problem," he said. Saari Sungib (Hulu Kelang) and Hasnol Baharuddin (Morib) had unilaterally signed a statutory declaration in support of Wan Azizah during the Selangor menteri besar crisis, without the PAS' leadership consent. I will take your questions in turn below. 1. What is the geographical distribution of those above 60 who have yet to register for the COVID19 vaccine? Currently, registration for those above 60 stands at 40.1%. It ranges from 56.8% in Putrajaya, to 22.9% in Sabah. For States with low registration numbers such as in Sabah, Kelantan (25.1%), Terengganu (29.4%), Kedah (30.9%) and Pahang (31.5%), we are working with MKN, NADMA and the state governments on an outreach programme to encourage people to register, particularly for senior citizens. The outreach programme is not only to help them register for PICK but also to convince them on why it is important for people their age to be vaccinated against COVID-19. We also assure them that the vaccines are safe, effective and if they have any religious concerns, we also reassure them that the vaccines are halal. We are also working with the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development to register and vaccinate residents and caregivers at elderly care homes. A PEER-REVIEWED ARTICLE (RECEIVED – 14 JUN 2020: REVISED – 18 AUGUST 2020: ACCEPTED – 14 SEPTEMBER 2020) ABSTRACT This study examines on how participants’ education, economy and satisfaction contribute to the effectiveness of microcredit scheme known as Hijrah Selangor in widening the middle- income earners group in Selangor. To examine this, a cluster sampling consisting of 210 respondents, who reside and operate their businesses in three different zones, were given a AZJAF (e-ISSN: 2716-6643) Vol.1 No. 1 (2020) Page 57 set of questionnaires to gather the information. Several different statistical analyses are conducted with the main analysis being a multiple linear regression analysis. The results indicate that all studied variables; education, economy, and satisfaction have a positive relationship with the effectiveness of Hijrah Selangor. Economy has the most significant relationship and the highest effect on the effectiveness of Hijrah Selangor. The increase in monthly household income of the participants before and after joining the program is found to justify the objective of Hijrah Selangor in widening the middle-income earners group as shown in the demographic data where the monthly household income above RM10,000 has increased significantly from 2% to 60% after joining the program.

For the last two months, we have been hit very hard by the pandemic and there seems to be no near end in sight. The Emergency proclamation in January, ostensibly to fight COVID-19 has now been proven to be a complete political sham. Malaysia is the only country in the world where after Emergency has been declared (together with the suspension of Parliament), the pandemic situation has actually worsened instead of improving. This inability to contain the pandemic is the result of an incompetent and anti-democratic government that is weak in leadership and poor in policy planning. I get no joy in criticising the PN government but it is now as clear as day that without the checks and balances provided by parliament, their incompetency will only grow to the detriment of Malaysians from the pandemic. However, this newsletter is not so much about politics; for that you can follow me on my active social media posts. This newsletter is basically a report card of sorts of what my office and I have been doing in the last six months.
