The Eucharist in Christmastide

In the Christian calendar, the season is the period from the Nativity of the Lord to . The period is a unity, encompassing great of the Nativity, the Circumcision and naming of , The , the Baptism and the Presentation.

We are in a time of great festival; the colours are gold and white and we proclaim Christ born and revealed before all.

In Christ’s Nativity is our own birth. In the waters of baptism, we die to our old ways of sin and are re-born to new life and in His presentation at the temple we rededicate ourselves to the way of our Master.

In this sacred space all are welcome, in our worship, in our work and in our hospitality.

There is a hearing loop for those who require it. Additionally, there are large print orders of service should they be needed. Please ask one of the welcomers.

The hymns for this service are indicated on the board at the front right of the church.

If you are in good standing with your church and wish to receive Holy , please do join with us. The gifts of God are for the people of God. This is the Lord’s table, all are welcome.

C: We stand as the church assembled, in the light of the babe of to proclaim and share our faith in the words of the Creed.

We stand

All: We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one substance with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son, he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.

Amen

Please sit or kneel for the intercessions

At the end of the prayers

Merciful Father, accept these prayers, for the sake of your only Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ Our Lord, Amen We sit or kneel for the confession and absolution

C: Most merciful God,

All: we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.

C: Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. P: Amen.

He is your living Word, through whom you have created all things.

By the power of the Holy Spirit He took flesh of the Virgin Mary and shared our human nature.

He lived and died as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.

Blessed are you, gracious God, creator of heaven and earth; we give you thanks and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord, who in the mystery of his incarnation was made perfect man of the flesh of the Virgin Mary his mother; in him we have seen a new and radiant vision of your glory.

Blessed are you, gracious God, because in the mystery of the Word made flesh you have caused a new light to shine in our hearts, to give knowledge of salvation in the face of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Now with angels and archangels and the whole company of heaven, we lift our voices to proclaim the glory of your name. We praise God in the singing of the

“Take, and eat: this is my body which is broken for you.”

C: In the same way he took the cup, saying,

“This is my blood which is shed for you. When you do this, you do it in memory of me.”

C: Remembering, therefore, his death and resurrection,

All: we offer you this bread and this cup, giving thanks that you have made us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you.

P: Amen.

Together we pray those words which Jesus gave us

C: As our Saviour taught us, so we pray:

All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

The celebrant breaks and shares the sacred elements

C: We break the bread of life, and that life is the light of the world. All: God here among us, light in the midst of us, bring us to light and life.

C: Whoever eats this bread will live for ever. P: Whoever eats this bread will live for ever.

C: This is the true bread which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. P: Whoever eats this bread will live for ever.

C: Whoever believes in me shall not hunger or thirst, for the bread which I give for the life of the world is my flesh. P: Whoever eats this bread will live for ever.

Having received Holy Communion, we respond in the singing of the communion hymn
