Since then many local manufacturing and services companies have emerged, these companies now manufacture a large portion of the components of the power generation and distribution projects. All components are being manufactured in accordance with the international governing standards and to the highest level of quality. The dependability and soundness of such components have been proven through their extensive use in the sector’s projects for over a decade, additionally foreign purchasers now appreciate the quality of such products and depend on Egyptian manufacturers to provide components for their future projects. The number of local manufacturers now producing components for the power projects has greatly increased during the past years. Additionally the variety of products currently produced in Egypt is great. Accordingly the need to initiate a guide for the manufacturers and the products has emerged. This guide is a compilation of manufacturers, firms, and service companies working in the power sector in Egypt. It is intended to be used by both local and foreign purchasers and to facilitate the communication with the Egyptian sources.     Aswan Dam The Aswan Dam may refer to either of two dams situated across the Nile River in Aswan, Egypt. Since the 1950s, the name commonly refers to the High Dam, which is the larger and newer of the two. The Old Aswan Dam, or Aswan Low Dam, was first completed in 1902 and then was raised twice, during the British colonial period. Following Egypt's independence from the United Kingdom, the High Dam was constructed between 1960 and 1970. Both projects aimed to increase economic production by regulating the annual riverflooding and providing storage of water for agriculture, and later, to generate hydroelectricity. Both have had significant impact on theeconomy and culture of Egypt. The Old Aswan Dam was built at the former first cataract of the Nile, and is located about 1000 km up-river and 690 km (direct distance) south- southeast of Cairo. The newer Aswan High Dam is located 7.3 km upriver from the older dam. Before the dams were built, the River Nile flooded each year during late summer, as water flowed down the valley from its East Africandrainage basin. These floods brought high water and natural nutrients and minerals that annually enriched the fertile soil along thefloodplain and delta; this made the Nile valley ideal for farming since ancient times. Because floods vary, in high-water years, the wholecrop might be wiped out, while in low-water years widespread drought and famine occasionally occurred. As Egypt's population grew and conditions changed, both a desire and ability developed to control the floods, and thus both protect and support farmland and the economically important cotton crop.

Osman Ahmed Osman & Co™ was established in 1947 as a local construction company. The company has gone through 4 pertinent change management phases that shaped and demonstrated its sustainability. It currently exists in 29 countries covering 4 continents with approximately 75 thousand employees (Arab Contractors, 2014). This study hypothesized that management and administrative ethics would lead to success, sustainability, and continuous growth. The research methodology used in this study was a mixed methods approach. A qualitative case study and quantitative survey analyzed the effect of management and administrative ethics on success and sustainability. The findings of this study have been limited to present the continuous growth of the company due to the consistency in applying management and administrative ethics. The study concluded by proposing applying management and administrative ethics to assure the growth and sustainability of any regional or global company. Abstract The main concern of this thesis is to examine how the Mubarak authoritarian regime survived for three decades, especially after the introduction of economic liberalization. I argue that the Mubarak regime created a new constituency of businessmen who benefited from economic reform and in return provided support to the regime. Based on interviews with Egyptian businessmen and political activists, this thesis examines the different institutional mechanisms used by the regime to co-opt businessmen and based on predation of public and private resources. Extending the literature on clientelism, I create a typology of regime-businessmen relations in terms of authoritarian clientelism, semi-clientelism, patron-broker client relationships, and mutual dependency. The thesis further examines how the regime dealt with an opposition that refused to enter into its clientelisitic chain. I demonstrate how the regime weakened this opposition by creating among them a divided political environment on different levels (i.e., among the legal and illegal opposition, inside the legal opposition, and among the illegal opposition). This thesis demonstrates that there are businessmen who are supportive of authoritarianism; however, they may also oppose authoritarian regimes, not for their own business interests but rather for their own political/ideological stance.

    ABSTRACT MYTHOLOGIES OF A DEVELOPMENTAL STATE: AMBITION AND ACTION IN NASSER’S EGYPT By Sara R. Nimis This paper uses an historical analysis of state intervention in the Egyptian economy during the Nasser period (1952-1970) to show how an activist state can help a late-industrializing economy “catch up” to industrialized economies in the global market. The Egyptian case is compared and contrasted with the case of South Korea during the fifties and sixties. The absence of growth-promoting relationships between business and state actors in the Egyptian case was rooted in the suspicion toward businesspeople that characterized the developmental myth of the Nasser government. A case study of the Arab Contractors Corporation further illustrates the importance of such “policy networks”. The developmental myths of the two governments also played into their policy strategies. The Egyptian government espoused an import substitution strategy in line with its emphasis on independence as the hallmark of development, whereas South Korea favored a strategy emphasizing exports.     Those 1 Have Known Anwar el – Sadat www.anwarsadat.org INTRODUCTION The dates of May 15 and October 6 stand out as landmarks in the life of Anwar el-Sadat. For Sadat, October 6 was his day of victory and honor, the day he took office as the third elected president of Egypt. It also revived sad memories for him, for on that day in 1973 he lost his younger brother, an air force pilot who took part, under the command of Husni Mubarak, at that time commander of the Egyptian air force, in the aerial attack that led to the recapture of the east bank of the Suez Canal by the Egyptian army. Sadat saw October 6 as the day on which he achieved victory for Egypt after a series of defeats at the hands of the Israelis. The Egyptian soldier thus regained confidence, and the Egyptian people regained confidence in Sadat's leadership and in the army. Sadat always believed that if it had not been for the action of October 6 there would have been no subsequent peace. The state of no war-no peace that followed the defeat of June 5, 1967, led to complete paralysis in Egypt and throughout the Arab world. This is why when Sadat thought of offering a contribution to the Egyptian press he launched the magazine known today as October. When Sadat created his own party, the National Democratic party, two years after his historic trip to Jerusalem, he started planning a party newspaper and at once thought of another important date in his career: www.anwarsadat.orgMay 15, 1971, when he overcame his political opponents and started his process of internal liberalization.
