Abruzzo coastal evolution mapping Evolution of the coastline between Integrated Coastal Area Management and Maritime Spatial Planning

This project is co-financed by the European Union

PORTODIMARE International Conference on ICZM&MSP – Budva, Montenegro 14- 15 November 2018. coastal evolution mapping

• The testing will analyse about 90 kms of sandy coastline along 19 coastal municipalities. • Provincia di : , , Tortoreto, , , , Silvi; Provincia di : Città S. Angelo, Montesilvano, Pescara; Provincia di : Francavilla al Mare, , , ; The critical issues characterizing the coastal area are represented by the anthropization of the coast and by the possible introduction into the sea of biochemical contaminants near the main watercourses. The pilot project will draft a map representing the coastline evolution (period 2000-2015) at the service of regional users and territorial management policies. PORTODIMARE International Conference on ICZM&MSP – Budva, Montenegro 14- 15 November 2018. Abruzzo coastal evolution mapping

The pilot project will deepen the aspects related to the integrated management of the coastal area and the planning of the maritime space, evaluating the relationships between the evolution of the coast line and characteristic elements or activities of the landscape (marine protected areas, coastal defense works, port infrastructures, bathing, fishing, aquaculture)

PORTODIMARE International Conference on ICZM&MSP – Budva, Montenegro 14- 15 November 2018. Abruzzo coastal evolution mapping

The implementation of the pilot project aims to assess the impact of erosion on beaches defended by parallel reefs and breakwaters, in order to test the effectiveness of the actions taken. These studies can integrate the assessments of the beaches subject to nourishment and reconstruction in order to influence future interventions taking into account the effects of the anthropogenic actions carried out.
