FEDERATION CYNOLOGIQUE INTERNATIONALE (AISBL) SECRETARIAT GENERAL: 13, Place Albert 1er B – 6530 Thuin (Belgique) ______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ 13.09.2000/EN _______________________________________________________________ FCI-Standard N° 239 DROTZÖRÜ MAGYAR VIZSLA (Hungarian Wire-Haired Pointer (Vizsla)) 2 TRANSLATION: Mrs. H. Gross-Richardson and Mrs. Ann Mitchell, ANKC Australia and Mrs. Elke Peper. Official language (EN). ORIGIN: Hungary. DATE OF PUBLICATION OF THE OFFICIAL VALID STANDARD: 06.04.2000. UTILISATION: A versatile gun dog that must be able to work in the field, forest and water, having the following typical qualities: an excellent nose, firmness on the point, excellent retrieves and determination to remain on the scent even when swimming, which he manifestly enjoys. He copes with difficult terrain as well as extreme weather conditions. As he is intended to be an efficient hunting dog, gun and game shyness, unwillingness to point and retrieve, as well as a dislike of water are undesirable. Because of his easy going nature and his adaptability, he can easily be kept as a companion dog in the house. FCI-CLASSIFICATION: Group 7 Pointing Dogs. Section 1 Continental Pointing Dogs. With working trial (Field and Water Trial) BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY: The Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizsla was created by cross-breeding the Hungarian Short-Haired Vizsla with the German Wire-Haired Pointer during the 1930‘s. His breed characteristics are identical with those of the Hungarian Short- Haired Vizsla. GENERAL APPEARANCE: A lively, russet gold hunting dog of dry and lean but more robust construction compared to the Hungarian Short-Haired Vizsla. His appearance embodies his qualities as a multi-purpose pointing dog, endurance, working ability and an easily satisfied nature.

  • Sporting Group Study Guide Naturally Active and Alert, Sporting Dogs Make Likeable, Well-Rounded Companions
Sporting Group Study Guide Naturally active and alert, Sporting dogs make likeable, well-rounded companions. Remarkable for their instincts in water and woods, many of these breeds actively continue to participate in hunting and other field activities. Potential owners of Sporting dogs need to realize that most require regular, invigorating exercise. The breeds of the AKC Sporting Group were all developed to assist hunters of feathered game. These “sporting dogs” (also referred to as gundogs or bird dogs) are subdivided by function—that is, how they hunt. They are spaniels, pointers, setters, retrievers, and the European utility breeds. Of these, spaniels are generally considered the oldest. Early authorities divided the spaniels not by breed but by type: either water spaniels or land spaniels. The land spaniels came to be subdivided by size. The larger types were the “springing spaniel” and the “field spaniel,” and the smaller, which specialized on flushing woodcock, was known as a “cocking spaniel.” ~~How many breeds are in this group? 31~~ 1. American Water Spaniel a. Country of origin: USA (lake country of the upper Midwest) b. Original purpose: retrieve from skiff or canoes and work ground c. Other Names: N/A d. Very Brief History: European immigrants who settled near the great lakes depended on the region’s plentiful waterfowl for sustenance. The Irish Water Spaniel, the Curly-Coated Retriever, and the now extinct English Water Spaniel have been mentioned in histories as possible component breeds. e. Coat color/type: solid liver, brown or dark chocolate. A little white on toes and chest is permissible.

  • BRITTANY SPANIEL GROUP: Sporting
BRITTANY SPANIEL GROUP: Sporting GENERAL APPEARANCE: A compact, closely knit dog of medium size, a leggy dog having the appearance, as well as the agility, of a great ground coverer. Square, height being the same as the length of body. Strong, vigorous, energetic, and quick of movement; ruggedness without clumsiness is a characteristic of the breed. The tail is no more than four inches in length. SIZE: Ideally should measure 17 ½ to 20 ½ inches; Oversized or undersized animals are penalized to the extent of deviation from standard. Quality is not to be sacrificed in favor of size. Weight should weigh between 30 and 40 pounds. COAT: The coat is wavy or flat and dense. Feathering of moderate appearance is found on both the front and rear legs. The thighs are well-feathered, but not profusely (too little is preferable to too much), halfway to the hock. The ears carry little fringe. Dogs with long or profuse feathering or furnishings shall be so severely penalized as to effectively eliminate them. The skin is fine and fairly loose, but so loose as to form pouches is undesirable. Serious faults: Curly coat; Silky coat texture; Long or profuse feathering. COLOR: Orange and white, liver and white, and black and white in clear or roan patterns. Some ticking is desirable. Tri-colors are allowed but not desirable, and should be faulted to their degree of variance. A tri-color us a liver and white dog with classic orange markings on eyebrows, muzzle, and cheeks, inside the ears and under the tail; freckles on the lower legs are orange.
