Spider-Man No Way Home (2021) Genre: Animation, Family, Comedy, Fantasy, Adventure, Music Companies: United States of America Release: 2021-03-12 Duration: 94 min. Quality: HD More of a one-man massacre than ever before (but just raggedy enough to keep things “real”), Mr. Wick fights in a punishingly brutal style that builds on what director Chad Stahelski invented for the character in the previous films. This is a character who appears to know every single language under the sun, but violence is the most expressive part of his vocabulary (Reeves speaks maybe 100 words in the entire movie). Chinese wushu, Japanese judo, Southeast Asian silat, American Glock… Wick is fluent in them all. But while Stahelski and his team have obviously put a great deal of thought into every frame of fisticuffs, “Parabellum” is so relentless that it often devolves into a numbing flurry of shoulder flips and headshots. If “Chapter 2” bordered on high art for how cleverly it weaved tactical shootouts into public locations (and made every fight operate like an organic bit of world-building), “Chapter 3” is more out in the open. A sneaky little skirmish in Grand Central Station doesn’t live up to Stahelski’s creative potential, even if it’s amazing they pulled off the scene at all. Elsewhere, a motorcycle chase along an empty Manhattan bridge is too rushed and blurry to deliver the “Fury Road” ferocity it teases, and the climactic brawl?—?which makes great use of some familiar faces, and hinges on a funny dynamic of mutual respect—is overwhelmed by a set that looks like a high-end watch commercial, and feels like a watered-down retread of the house of mirrors sequence from the end of the previous movie. Driven by a profound respect for the expressive power of beating someone to death, and empowered by their 54-year-old star’s remarkable skill and commitment, Stahelski and the other poets of percussive carnage that work at his 87Eleven Productions are still (a severed) head and shoulders above the rest of Hollywood’s stunt community. But they can do more with this character, even if it means slowing things down and widening them out. “Spider-Man No Way Home” To that end, it’s telling that the most exciting brawl in “Parabellum” (with the possible exception of a knife fight in a Chinatown antiques store) maintains a more expansive vision, as Mr. Wick fights alongside Halle Berry and some four-legged sidekicks. Traveling to Casablanca for reasons that are never adequately explained, Mr. Wick meets up with an assassin named Sofia who owns a pair of well-trained Malinois dogs; like every other supporting character in this movie, there’s mixed blood between them, and she owes him something for some reason. There are coins and seals and lots of jibber jabber about High Table manners and then “Game of Thrones” star Jerome Flynn shows up as a Bronn-like business type who’s a bit too greedy for his own good (it’s hard to tell what accent Flynn is doing here, but he’s most definitely doing it). When the bullets fly, Sofia’s very good boys lend a valuable assist, and Stahelski has to open things up in order to frame the dogs as they chew on fresh corpses. The sequence is very “John Wick” and horribly terrific in a hand-over-your-mouth kind of way; it does more than any of the tossed-off business with the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburn) or the Continental Hotel owner (Ian McShane) to whet our appetites for another adventure. Anjelica Huston is also somewhat wasted as the matriarch of a Harlem ballet academy with ties to Wick’s past, but her scenes are so immaculately shot that you’re willing to let it slide. In a film that plays fast and loose with NYC geography, all is forgiven by turning 175th street’s United Palace into the “Tarkovsky Theater,” where people are trained to be killers in between performances of “Swan Lake.” The film’s world-building works best in small doses. A meeting in the middle of the desert is a total dead end, whereas all sorts of fun details can be inferred from Stahelski’s frequent cutaways to the High Table nerve center, where dozens of tattooed and lip-glossed workers monitor Wick’s bounty with an old- fashioned switchboard (imagine a SuicideGirls reboot of “Mad Men” and you’ll have the right idea).

  • The Motivational Mind of Magneto: Towards Jungian Discourse Analysis
Page 1 of 30 The motivational mind of Magneto: towards Jungian discourse analysis Jacquelyn Seerattan-Waldrom Supervised by: Dr Geoff Bunn April 2016 Page 2 of 30 The motivational mind of Magneto: towards Jungian discourse analysis ABSTRACT Discourse analysis has been a prominent area of psychology for 25 years. It traditionally focuses on society’s influence on the world through the rhetoric (implicit persuasion) and symbolism, dealing with important psychological areas such as ‘identity’ and many social justice issues. Graphic novel analyses is also increasingly more common. Social justice issues are especially prominent in analysis: particularly in X- Men, through metaphors of ‘oppression’, ‘sexuality and identity’ (Zullo, 2015). Psycho-discursive analysis focuses on the 'subject' neglected in traditional discourse analysis, which has been provided recent attention. A Freudian and Jungian psycho-discursive analysis of DC comic character, 'Batman' has been studied regarding motivation and psyche (Langley, 2012). However, ‘reflexivity’ in Freudian psycho-discursive analysis is a known problem that previous psycho-discursive analyses have been unable to tackle effectively. Therefore, this study proposed a step towards Jungian psycho-discursive analysis adapted from personality and motivation theory, ‘Psychological Types’ (1971) and theoretical expansions by Myers and Myers (1995). It was applied to fictional representations of psyche within the X-Men comic character, ‘Magneto’, due to fictional inspirations which commonly form Jungian theory. Magneto was interpreted as the type, ‘INTJ’, and future implications of further applications to psyche are discussed. • Crossmedia Adaptation and the Development of Continuity in the Dc Animated Universe
“INFINITE EARTHS”: CROSSMEDIA ADAPTATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONTINUITY IN THE DC ANIMATED UNIVERSE Alex Nader A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS May 2015 Committee: Jeff Brown, Advisor Becca Cragin © 2015 Alexander Nader All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeff Brown, Advisor This thesis examines the process of adapting comic book properties into other visual media. I focus on the DC Animated Universe, the popular adaptation of DC Comics characters and concepts into all-ages programming. This adapted universe started with Batman: The Animated Series and comprised several shows on multiple networks, all of which fit into a shared universe based on their comic book counterparts. The adaptation of these properties is heavily reliant to intertextuality across DC Comics media. The shared universe developed within the television medium acted as an early example of comic book media adapting the idea of shared universes, a process that has been replicated with extreme financial success by DC and Marvel (in various stages of fruition). I address the process of adapting DC Comics properties in television, dividing it into “strict” or “loose” adaptations, as well as derivative adaptations that add new material to the comic book canon. This process was initially slow, exploding after the first series (Batman: The Animated Series) changed networks and Saturday morning cartoons flourished, allowing for more opportunities for producers to create content. References, crossover episodes, and the later series Justice League Unlimited allowed producers to utilize this shared universe to develop otherwise impossible adaptations that often became lasting additions to DC Comics publishing.

The Complete Stories by Franz Kafka a.b.e-book v3.0 / Notes at the end Back Cover : "An important book, valuable in itself and absolutely fascinating. The stories are dreamlike, allegorical, symbolic, parabolic, grotesque, ritualistic, nasty, lucent, extremely personal, ghoulishly detached, exquisitely comic. numinous and prophetic." -- New York Times "The Complete Stories is an encyclopedia of our insecurities and our brave attempts to oppose them." -- Anatole Broyard Franz Kafka wrote continuously and furiously throughout his short and intensely lived life, but only allowed a fraction of his work to be published during his lifetime. Shortly before his death at the age of forty, he instructed Max Brod, his friend and literary executor, to burn all his remaining works of fiction. Fortunately, Brod disobeyed. Page 1 The Complete Stories brings together all of Kafka's stories, from the classic tales such as "The Metamorphosis," "In the Penal Colony" and "The Hunger Artist" to less-known, shorter pieces and fragments Brod released after Kafka's death; with the exception of his three novels, the whole of Kafka's narrative work is included in this volume. The remarkable depth and breadth of his brilliant and probing imagination become even more evident when these stories are seen as a whole. This edition also features a fascinating introduction by John Updike, a chronology of Kafka's life, and a selected bibliography of critical writings about Kafka. Following upon the events in Long Cold Dark , this arc pulls in all the loose plot threads and subplots of Ennis' entire run including the Born mini series, which opened the first of these complete collections , and delivers in an absolutely stunning way. And the only good thing I can say about it is that the great Richard Corben draws it. Appearing in the short-lived but critically-acclaimed British anthology Crisis and illustrated by McCrea, it told the story of a young, apolitical Protestant man caught up by fate in the violence of the Irish 'Troubles'. Another very clear five stars piece to close this truly epic run. There's a good sense of bookends here that marks the end of Ennis' work on the character, I'm interested in seeing where future collections will go following his departure. I loved that he was former special forces and did a few tours in Vietnam. Whatever though I n the waning days of the Vietnam War Learn More. Less a Punisher story and more the author writing out his frustration about how a few rich a-holes control too much of the world.

  • Jack Kirby Influence Paper-2
Magi Hossameldin Professor Thelma Bauer Digital Media Foundations- D304 8:00 - 11:20AM Class December, 18th 2018 Jack Kirby-The Real Unknown Hero Often praised as the “King of Comics”, Jack Kirby has influenced generations of comic book artists and writers alike. Not only a talented comic book artist, he was also a great storyteller, which is considered to be responsible for his success and longevity. Kirby’s influence can still be seen in any modern superhero comics, and even on the big screen. Kirby is responsible for creating many iconic and beloved comic book characters. Jack Kirby was born as Jacob Kurtzberg on August 28, 1917, on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City. From and early childhood, Kirby aspired to be a storyteller, having being influenced by the stories his mother told him, and the stories in the newspaper comics and in the movie theaters. As a self-taught artist, he started drawing cartoons for the newspaper of the Boys Brotherhood Republic. By the age of 14, he was enrolled in Pratt Institute, but dropped out the afternoon of his first day due to financial pressures. He worked at various studios before starting his career as a super-hero comic book artist. Kirby didn’t begin his career in comics but in the animated cartoons, namely Popeye cartoons at the Max Fleischer studios. He began working at Lincoln Newspaper Syndicate as a political, gag, and strip cartoonist. Through work, he met Joe Simon, and formed a team. In 1940, they were hired by Timely Comics Company, which is known in the present as Marvel Comics.

Schrödinger’s Cape: The Quantum Seriality of the Marvel Multiverse William Proctor, University of Bournemouth, UK. On the surface, quantum physics and narrative theory are not easy bedfellows. In fact, some may argue that the two fields are incommensurable paradigms and any attempt to prove otherwise would be a foolhardy endeavour, more akin to intellectual trickery and sleight-of- hand than a prism with which to view narrative systems. Yet I find myself repeatedly confronted by these two ostensibly incompatible theories converging as I explore the vast narrative networks associated with fictional world-building -- most notably those belonging to comic book multiverses of Marvel and DC Comics which, Nick Lowe argues “are the largest narrative constructions in human history (exceeding, for example, the vast body of myth, legend and story that underlies Greek and Latin literature)” (Kaveney, 25). Contemporary quantum theory postulates that the universe is not a singular body progressing linearly along a unidirectional spatiotemporal pathway – as exponents of the Newtonian classic physics model believe – but, rather, a multiverse comprised of alternate worlds, parallel dimensions and multiple timelines. Both Marvel and bête noire DC Comics embrace the multiverse concept that allows multiple iterations, versions and reinterpretations of their character populations to co-exist within a spatiotemporal framing principle that shares remarkable commonalities with the quantum model. Where Marvel and DC deviate from one another, however, is that the latter utilises the conceit as an intra-medial model for its panoply of comic books; whereas, conversely, the Marvel multiverse functions as a transmedia firmament that encapsulates an entire catalogue within its narrative rubric, a strategy that is analogous with the quantum paradigm.
