Emílio Peixe nasceu a 16 de Janeiro de 1973. Após uma carreira de futebolista recheada de êxitos, o campeão mundial sub-20 (1991), abraçou a carreira COMITIVA OFICIAL de treinador, na temporada 2007/08, ao serviço da Federação Portuguesa de Futebol. Comanda neste Europeu sub-19, pela primeira vez, uma Seleção OFFICIAL DELEGATION Nacional na fase final de uma grande competição. Como atleta, Emílio Peixe iniciou a sua carreira no clube da terra, o GD “Os Nazarenos”, mas depressa revelou o talento que o levou a ir para Lisboa para representar o Sporting CP, em 1986, onde jogou nos vários escalões até chegar a sénior. O Campeonato da Europa Sub-19 realiza-se desde 2002, ano em que a UEFA reformulou as suas competições de formação. Até então (entre 1981 e 2001), o Europeu era destinado ao escalão Sub-18, tendo nesse período Portugal estado em 11 fases finais e festejado a conquista de dois títulos, em 1994 e 1999, depois de por quatro vezes ter estado muito perto do triunfo, somando segundos lugares em 1988, 1990 (com Emílio Peixe na equipa), 1992 e 1997. Em Julho de 1994, a cidade espanhola de Mérida, testemunhou o primeiro troféu luso, conquistado diante da Alemanha, num jogo dramático que só ficou resolvido nas grandes penalidades. Os germânicos colocaram-se em vantagem, antes do intervalo, por Frank Gerster e Rui Óscar apontou o tento português após o reatamento. Na equipa portuguesa pontificavam algumas futuras estrelas do nosso futebol, como o avançado Nuno Gomes, o guarda-redes Quim ou o defesa Beto. Cinco anos depois, em Norrkoping (Suécia), e de novo sob orientação de Agostinho Oliveira, Portugal voltou a subir ao lugar mais alto do pódio, depois de bater a Itália no jogo decisivo, por 1-0, com golo de João Paulo. A nossa Selecção soube, depois, sofrer para manter a vantagem, tendo jogado os últimos 25 minutos reduzida a 10 elementos. O guarda-redes Moreira e os defesas Ricardo Costa e Duda foram alguns dos intervenientes. A Equipa das Quinas vai participar, na Lituânia, na sua sexta fase final de Europeus Sub-19, tendo como melhor resultado o segundo lugar obtido em 2003. Na final, disputada diante da Itália, em Vaduz (Liechtenstein), os transalpinos acabaram por triunfar, com golos de Della Rocca e Pazzini.

The U19 European Championship takes place since 2002, the year when UEFA reformulated its development football competitions. Until then (between 1981 and 2001), the European Championship was designed for the U18 category. In that period Portugal was present in 11 final stages and celebrated the conquest of two titles, in 1994 and 1999, after having been very near the triumph for four times, and having reached the second place in 1988, 1990 (with Emílio Peixe in the team), 1992 and 1997. In July 1994, the Spanish city of Merida watched the first Portuguese trophy, conquered against Germany, in a dramatic game which was only decided in a penalty shoot out. The Germans took the lead before halftime, with a goal scored by Frank Gerster, and Rui Óscar scored the Portuguese goal after the restart of play. The Portuguese team included some future stars of our football, as forward Nuno Gomes, goalkeeper Quim and defender Beto. Five years later, in Norrkoping (Sweden), and again led by Agostinho Oliveira, Portugal stepped up the highest place in the podium, after beating Italy in the decisive match, by 1-0, with a goal scored by João Paulo. Our National Team knew then how to suffer to keep the lead, and played the last 25 minutes with only 10 players. Goalkeeper Moreira and defenders Ricardo Costa and Duda were some of the participants. The National Team will participate, in Lithuania, in its sixth final stage in U19 European Championships, and the best result was the second place obtained in 2003. In the final, played against Italy, in Vaduz (Liechtenstein), the Transalpine team ended by triumphing, with goals scored by Della Rocca and Pazzini.
