Dabney, Melina Kristine (BA/MA Film Studies) Re-mixing Old Character Tropes on Screen: Kerry Washington, Viola Davis, and the New Femininity Thesis directed by Professor Melinda Barlow While there is a substantial amount of scholarship on the depiction of African American women in film and television, this thesis exposes the new formations of African American femininity on screen. African American women have consistently resisted, challenged, submitted to, and remixed racial myths and sexual stereotypes existing in American cinema and television programming. Mainstream film and television practices significantly contribute to the reinforcement of old stereotypes in contemporary black women characters. However, based on the efforts of African American producers like Shonda Rhimes, who has attempted to insert more realistic renderings of African American women in her recent television shows, black women’s representation is undergoing yet another shift in contemporary media.

BC Film Stunt Performers and Stunt Related Injuries: A Survey and Review September 2012 Prepared For: Actsafe Suite 215, 750 Hamilton Street Vancouver, BC V6B 2R5 Prepared By: Billy Quirke M.Sc., Occupational Health and Safety Consultant Actsafe Suite 215, 750 Hamilton Street Vancouver, BC V6B 2R5 1.0 Executive Summary Background The purpose of this research was to a) explore the predominant health and safety issues facing stunt performers in British Columbia (BC) and b) identify areas or projects where Actsafe can help the stunt performance community to do their jobs safely. Initial Review • WorkSafeBC Stunt Related Injury Statistics - Falls from elevation accounted for over half of the accepted claims by stunt performers in the past 10 years. • Academic Sources – One study highlights the prevalence of concussions/head injuries sustained during stunt performance. Stunt coordinators and physicians were found to be the individuals most influential in communicating health and safety oriented information to respondents. Online Survey • Wire work & ratchets, martial arts and high falls resulted in the greatest number of reported injuries respectively. • A large percentage of respondents suffering head injuries did not report the filing of accident reports or receive compensation after injury. • The primary rationale from respondents for not reporting an injury was a lack of recognition of the severity of injuries. Other reported factors included feelings that injury was part of the job, the belief reporting would decrease the likelihood of ascertaining future work and perceived difficulties in dealing with the regulatory agency. • 35% of respondents felt the cumulative abuse they have sustained as a stunt performer has negatively affected their overall health and/or affected their quality of life.

ALESSANDRO QUARTA CV Doppiatore, Direttore di doppiaggio, Adattatore dialoghista, Attore, Cantante, Compositore. Alessandro Quarta è uno dei massimi esponenti del doppiaggio italiano, è attore teatrale da quando aveva 6 anni, 1976, e Doppiatore dal 1980. In 40 anni di carriera a doppiato più di 1200 opere, tra film, serie TV e film di animazione, tra cui Casey Affleck, Ethan Hawke, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Ed Helms, Mark Wahlberg, Peter Sarsgaard e ha vinto numerosi premi come miglior voce maschile. È la voce ufficiale italiana di Mickey Mouse dal 1995, è il doppiatore che l’ha interpretato da più tempo in Italia e, per questo, è il primo ad aver ricevuto un riconoscimento ufficiale direttamente da Disney Company, il “Premio Speciale Mickey 90”. L’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Los Angeles gli ha conferito il primo riconoscimento a un doppiatore italiano negli USA, il “IIC Los Angeles Creativity Award”, come ambasciatore della lingua italiana nel mondo. Come rappresentante del doppiaggio italiano, ha partecipato al tour di presentazione negli USA del libro “Senti chi parla! Le 101 frasi più famose del cinema”, tenendo interventi presso la Chapman University di Orange County, in California, l’Università di Houston, e presso l’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Los Angeles. Ricopre anche il ruolo di Direttore di doppiaggio e Adattatore Dialoghista di film cinema, serie TV e Cartoni Animati. Insegna doppiaggio e recitazione presso accademie e scuole di recitazione e doppiaggio, e ha tenuto corsi di doppiaggio presso l’Università degli studi di Salerno. Partecipa al Cortometraggio AttorInVoce alla 74ª Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica la Biennale di Venezia e alla mostra fotografica “AttorInVoce” presso la Casa del Cinema di Roma, nei quali è stato scelto assieme ai migliori doppiatori italiani.
