When you think about it, a history trip is rather like time travel. Wherever the compass lands and whatever the historical site is, you’re transported to a different moment in time. Whether you’re charting the rise of the Nazis in Munich or walking through the reconstructed trenches on the Western Front, you’re reliving history.

As educational trip specialists, we know it’s those real life experiences that really stay with you. There’s nothing more powerful than when a student makes an emotional connection with a part of history, because suddenly everything that’s been taught in the classroom means so much more. We want to help your students to not only come face to face with the past, but understand what they’re looking at, what they’re reading and what they’re experiencing. To step into the story and feel like a part of history.

Paying close attention to the curriculum, we’ve created some handy resources that show you the themes our destinations can deliver and highlight where each area of the curriculum is best covered (p40-45). As always, we’ll guide you through the entire process and work with you to hand-craft a trip that’s perfect for you, tuning and tweaking things until it’s just right. So flick through and see what awakens your inner historian!

The Western Front For four years the Western Front was the destination of mud, blood and fighting. Now, for 100 years it has been the destination of learning, understanding and remembrance.

A journey into the area brings home the reality of the conflict, taking you through a landscape dotted with cemeteries and memorials – from the large and imposing areas dedicated to tens of thousands of servicemen and women, to the smaller and more personal areas erected to individual soldiers and regiments. Walk through reconstructed trenches, stand on the very ground that men fought and died for and let your students understand the accounts of those who lived through the conflict.

“It was an incredible opportunity that really brought WWI alive.”

Any visit to Moscow and St Petersburg will give students a true insight into European history across the centuries.

Students can learn about the devastating hardship that the First and Second World Wars brought to the Russian people, including the terrible sieges and battles around the key cities, resulting in the deaths of millions. They can also reflect on the incredible contribution that these battles made to the defeat of Nazism.
