Course/Module description: The course will focus on problems of the Russian political, social, cultural, and intellectual life as reflected in literature starting with the Silver Age of 1890s. Discussions will center on the great achievements of Russian literature as belles letters not only as part of the Russian culture but also as an important contribution to world civilization and culture. Soviet literature will also be discussed in its cultural and political contexts

Course/Module aims: To study a history of the Russian literature of the 20th century as an important constitutive part of the Russian civilization and culture

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: • Know very important phenomena, names of the authors, their writings, schools, streams, processes and stages, etc. which characterize a history of the Russian literature of the 20th century, • Recognize the very high spirit, social, cultural, and aesthetic achievements of the Russian literature of the 20th century, • Understand the difficult problems of the world history of the 20th century concerning the Russian literature

Attendance requirements(%): 80%

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Different: lectures, seminars, presentations of students’ papers, discussions about reading, performance (theatre, movie)
