We are committed to promoting a dominant United States Air Force and a strong national defense and honoring Airmen and our Air Force heritage. AFA is committed to educating the public on the invaluable benefits of air dominance, advocating for the Air Force, and supporting the Air Force family. The Air, Space & Cyber Conference was created to do just that. Our conference provides a forum for Air Force leadership and service members, industry, academia, and supporters to engage in open dialogue regarding the state and future of airpower, creating extensive networking and professional development opportunities. This program is printed on Forest Stewardship Council-certified paper. Products with the FSC logo directly support responsible forest management and help protect forests for future generations. 1 Welcome to the Air Force Association’s 2018 Air, Space & Cyber Conference On behalf of the Air Force Association, we welcome you to our 2018 Air, Space & Cyber Conference. This annual event is the premier professional development event for airpower advocates, allies, industry partners, DOD leaders, and Airmen for Life. Themed “Multi-Domain Operations: Leveraging the Full Spectrum,” this year’s conference will focus on how the Air Force uses multi-domain operations to deliver capabilities across air, space, and cyberspace. We are excited to welcome back to our conference this year Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson, who will address the conference on “The Air Force We Need” on Monday morning, and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General David Goldfein, who will deliver his “Air Force Update” on Tuesday morning. Also, we are pleased to have the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, Kaleth Wright, to deliver his address on “Taking Care of Airmen from the Ground Up” on Wednesday morning. This year, we are also thrilled to have SpaceX President and COO, Gwynne Shotwell, with us to speak about the Air Force’s involvement in space. Blue Origin Founder and Amazon Founder & CEO, Jeff Bezos, will also take the stage alongside General John Raymond, Commander of Air Force Space Command, to discuss innovation in space and the roles industry and government play in its future. 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of AFA’s Air Force Magazine. Throughout the conference, we welcome you to peruse the history of this outstanding publication and the magazine’s unmatched coverage of the Air Force which WHAT’S IMPOSSIBLE TODAY predates the establishment of the United States Air Force as a separate military branch. While you’re with us, we encourage you to explore the 100,000 square feet of exhibit space in our exposition hall, where nearly 140 companies are displaying the most cutting-edge technologies and capabilities. Please give spe- cial attention to the small businesses as you visit the hall. Also, be sure to stop by the many charitable and service organizations that support our Airmen and their families, which are located outside of the main ballroom in the Potomac Foyer. WON’T BE TOMORROW. We also invite you to participate in more than 30 panels and speaker sessions covering groundbreaking topics in air, AT LOCKHEED MARTIN, space and cyber. AFA is proud to host many outstanding speakers throughout this event, including several United WE’RE ENGINEERING A BETTER TOMORROW. States Combatant Commanders, Major Command Commanders, and industry thought leaders. Our mission at the Air Force Association is to promote aerospace power – that’s air and space power – and a domi- nant United States Air Force, and we proudly stand beside you throughout your journey as an Airman for Life. Please visit AFA’s booth outside the main ballroom to learn more about your Air Force Association and join us in our mission to support the Total Air Force family. It is an honor for us to hold professional development events like this conference. We hope you enjoy everything here over the next few days. Sincerely, F. Whitten Peters Larry O. The University of Southern Mississippi DIRECT RESPONSIBILITY: CASPAR WEINBERGER AND THE REAGAN DEFENSE BUILDUP by Robert Howard Wieland Abstract of a Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate School Of The University of Southern Mississippi In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements For the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy December 2013 ABSTRACT DIRECT RESPONSIBILITY: CASPAR WEINBERGER AND THE REAGAN DEFENSE BUILDUP by Robert Howard Wieland December 2013 This dissertation explores the life of Caspar Weinberger and explains why President Reagan chose him for Secretary of Defense. Weinberger, not a defense technocrat, managed a massive defense buildup of 1.5 trillion dollars over a four year period. A biographical approach to Weinberger illuminates Reagan’s selection, for in many ways Weinberger harkens back to an earlier type of defense manager more akin to Elihu Root than Robert McNamara; more a man of letters than technocrat.

  • WRP New Mexico Military Asset List (MAL)
WRP New Mexico Military Asset List (MAL) Within the Western Regional Partnership (WRP) region, there are significant military testing and training installations and ranges. WRP developed summaries from all of the Services and the National Guard, describing the history, missions, and importance of these assets. These summaries use only publicly available information and are written for the policy maker new to military issues and the military savvy person needing specific military information. It is our hope that WRP Partners use these summaries as a tool for land use planning efforts to encourage compatible growth and ensure future mission viability. Incompatible development (encroachment) comes in many forms but for the military, it means those issues that affect their ability to fulfill their mission on land, in the sea, or in the air. These military summaries are for general planning purposes.
