Dec. 7, 2012, Mesa, AZ___DSB- Don’t Stop Believin’- had quite a few Believers this Holiday Season as on Friday, December 7 over 1,100 people came together at Chester’s Harley-Davidson in Mesa, AZ for this awesome Journey tribute band’s performance. Having been a longtime fan of Journey and Steve Perry’s powerful soaring vocals, I can vouch for, the lead singer’s authentic Steve Perry renditions, arguably one of if not The best I’ve heard. Our rockstar photographer George Childress was a proper complement to this show being a huge Journey fan himself, and did fantastic justice to the visuals as you can see here.
After the Chuck Hall Band opened for DSB, the guys took the stage and played for 2 hours, and the crowd LOVED them. The dealership stayed open during the entire event and offered many incentives to customers during the show.
But the higher purpose here was to benefit kids. Admission consisted of $10.00 donations or toys were accepted to go to Pappas Kids Schoolhouse Foundation. Its mission is to help low-income, homeless and at-risk youth in Arizona schools succeed and grow in a positive educational environment. They serve disadvantaged youth and assist with the educational, social and family needs of those students. With over 1,100 attending the DSB event, a very nice donation of about $3,500 was achieved for the Foundation, besides the toys donated.
Chester’s has big plans for spring 2013 too- don’t miss Chester’s 2013 Backstage Biker Bash on April 5th and 6th. The concert headliners have not yet been announced but Chester’s is promising an incredible concert with a national headliner. We plan to have the inside track and get all the great photos! 20 JANUARY 2013 JANUARY 2013 21 A unique combination of bikers, families and kids, met up with Jiu Jitsu fighters and octagon cage fight lovers in the Illusion Cycles parking lot on Nov. 10 to raise money for “WORLD CLASS YOUTH FOUNDATION”, a local gym that neighbors Illusion Cycles in Westminster. Owned by Hall of Famer Juanito Ibarra, (famous for his ‘bucket hat’) the gym and its staff was a satisfactory combination of two worlds coming together to benefit a great cause: kids in the local neighborhoods. The event called “STRICTLY BUSINESS: No-Gi Submission Classic” was a different kind of party at Illusion Cycles, and the usual folks were all there including many new popular faces from the Jiu Jitsu fight world, MMA and boxing realms. Local MMA pro Kenny Quach and Jeremy May were in the mix, along with Jerry aka “Scarry Jerry” Vibanovic, a local MMA legend himself. Handshakes and pictures happened all day including smiles from Jr. Grazze who is a world champion Jiu Jitsu artist and ultimate fighter Junior Waldemero Perez. Back-to-back bouts happened all day, and each round was hosted by celebrity emcee Brett Wagner aka Big Schwag, most notably known for his voice on Discovery Channel’s Monster Garage and currently the host of “PASS TIME” on Speed Channel. Juanito Ibarra has a history of helping local neighborhood kids get off the streets and into the gym through several programs that World Class Youth Foundation offers. “Money doesn’t matter when it comes to the kids. If they want to learn these sports, they are welcome any time in my gym. I teach them the A, B, C’s: If you can ‘C’oncieve in your mind, ‘B’elieve in your heart, then you shall ‘A’chieve your goals. I will personally help them, guide them and train them”. Juanito is most famously known as Oscar De La Hoya’s co-trainer as well as Quintin “Rampage” Jackson’s trainer and he was inducted into Martial Arts Hall of Fame in New York, 2007. Juanito was flanked all day by those very kids, as well as the staff and trainers of World Class Youth Foundation Gym. Even more fight Hall of Famers including Fred Brewster and basketball Hall of Fame inductee Rick Gearnell were surrounded by friends, admirers and lots of kids! Illusion Cycles always shows their best creations and a few new ones were out on display. The newest Illusion Cycles Hellrazor Bagger was a sight-to- see with a gigantic 26 inch custom front wheel designed by Illusion Cycles owner Rusty Coones. Not to be overlooked was the “SONS of ANARCHY” Charity Chopper built by Illusion Cycles commissioned by Fox Television and SOA creator Kurt Sutter. This bad ass scooter was built for the purpose of being auctioned to benefit the Wounded Warriors Foundation. Since this charity chopper build was completed, Rusty the owner of Illusion Cycles has appeared on season 5 of Sons of Anarchy as “Quinn” the SOA Nomads Charter President. There were many SOA fans in the cage fight crowd, with lots of folks getting pictures and autographs with the other stars from SOA, including Andy McPhee who played the President of the Belfast SOA Charter, season 4. After spending the day at this biker/cage fight event, there was good fusion and connection with people from different walks of life that came together to benefit local children, helping to keep after-school programs alive and available. Even the local off-duty Firemen were all volunteering. I’ve been to many a grand opening of various shops and dealerships and this was a GRAND opening! After many weeks of converting what was previously a local bar into a working shop complete with a full machine shop, dyno, tires and parts, it finally came to being. I watched the transition progress over the weeks and I was amazed at the finished product. The shop is well laid out and the reception area is complete with a pool table so you can sink a few while your bike gets an oil change or complete service. The opening was complete with live music by the Whiskey Dogz, a pig roast that had everybody drooling (yea it was yummy) and FREE beer and other beverages; now we’re talkin’.
