Lynyrd Skynyrd: La Tràgica Història D'una Llegenda Americana It's only rock & roll | Pep Saña | Actualitzat el 12/10/2016 a les 18:41 Lynyrd Skynyrd: La tràgica història d'una llegenda americana Lynyrd Skynyrd amb The Allman Brothers Band, uns amb un estil més contundent i els altres amb una configuració més jam, son la màxima representació i el sant grial de l'anomena't ?Rock Sureny?, gènere que es caracteritza per barrejar la música country, el blues i el soul amb el rock'n'roll (en els Allman s'hi ha d'afegir el jazz), d'una manera singular. Lynyrd Skynyrd a més, va utilitzar imatges de l'orgull sureny per crear un estil (a més del musical) únic, barrejant rock potent amb arrels de country i blues. La banda de rock sureny definitiva, amb una imatge ?outlaw? rebel i la iconografia del rock. Estenien (encara ara ho fan) una gegantesca bandera Confederada a l'escenari, i abans de començar el seu xou tocaven ?Dixie?. Quan s'escolten bandes d'aquest estil musical, sobretot les de la dècada dels 70, com Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band, 38 Special, The Outlaws, Marshall Tucker Band o ZZ Top, son posseïdors d'un segell particular (crec que és un do especial, que es porta dintre), que els diferència de les altres bandes claus de l'època Juntament amb artistes com els Allman Brothers i la Charlie Daniels Band, van ajudar a convertir al rock sureny en un gènere musical propi. Els orígens de Lynyrd Skynyrd es remunten a 1965, quan els companys de l'escola secundària Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington i Allen Collins van començar a tocar junts amb el nom de My Backyard a Jacksonville, Florida. Després de patejar-se els locals de diversos estats surenys, van aconseguir cridar l'atenció d'Al Kooper, un ex membre de Blood, Sweat & Tears, que després de veure un concert de la banda a un club d'Atlanta els va proposar signar un contracte amb la discogràfica MCA. Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd (1973) El talent del vocalista Ronnie VanZant a la composició i el triplet de guitarres format per Ed King amb la Fender Stratocaster, Allen Collins amb la Gibson Firebird, i Gary Rossington amb la Gibson Les Paul, van ser les bases del seu primer LP, Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd que es titulava així com a mode d'instruccions de com s'ha de pronunciar el nom de la banda, és una obra mestra del rock sureny amb el mateix Al Kooper a la producció. Entre els vuit temes destaquen himnes com Gimme Three Steps, Tuesday's Gone, Simple Man i Freebird, aquesta última, feta en homenatge al guitarrista mort dels Allman Brothers, Duane Allman, i que es va convertir en un dels grans clàssics de la banda. Freebird és un dels temes més coneguts de Lynyrd Skynyrd, tot un himne generacional, un dels millors temes de la història del rock i un clàssic de tots els temps. El solo de guitarra de Freebird ha estat situat a la tercera posició per la revista Guitar World a la seva llista dels 100 millors solos de tota la història. Caldria reivindicar com es mereixen els grans himnes i no passar de puntetes per Lynyrd Skynyrd concedint-los l'espai que els pertoca a l'olimp del rock. Sweet Home Alabama ha passat a la història com el gran clàssic de la banda del traspassat Ronnie Van Zant, però seria injust quedar-se només amb aquest himne. Sense anar més lluny el disc en el que es va incloure el cèlebre tema, Second Helping és un dels grans clàssics dels 70, i deu ni do la gran competència hi havia en aquella dècada. Aquest àlbum incloïa temes excel·lents, com The Ballad Of Curtis Loew, Working For MCA, The Needle And The Spoon o Call Me The Breeze que és un cover de J. J. Cale, a més del himne Sweet Home Alabama. Ronnie Van Zant va decidir compondre Sweet Home Alabama amb els guitarristes Ed King i Gary Rossington com a resposta a aquestes envestides, el missatge era una declaració d'orgull de pertànyer al sud, siguin blancs, negres, vermells, o grocs com va aclarir el propi Ronnie en una entrevista, "Em va molestar que Neil disparés a tots els ànecs per matar-ne a un o a dos...no tots els nascuts del sud som racistes i intolerants", malgrat l'èxit i les explicacions del propi Van Zant, aquest estigma no se'l trauria mai de sobre. Gran part de la màgia de les cançons d'aquest àlbum és deguda a innovació de ser una de les primeres bandes d'incloure dins la seva formació a tres guitarristes, Rossington, Collins i King. També destacar les aportacions del baixista Leon Wilkeson i el teclista Billy Powell. El bateria Bob Burns va abandonar la banda després d'aquesta gira a conseqüència dels excessos, substituint-lo el carismàtic Artimus Pyle. A partir d'aleshores caldria tenir en compte a aquesta colla de "paletos imitadors dels Allman Brothers" com alguns crítics els qualificaven. Segurament perquè eren ingovernables, políticament incorrectes i només responien a les seves pròpies lleis, però també perquè tenien unes condicions excepcionals, capaços de destronar de l'escenari a qualsevol encara que els caps de cartell fossin els prometedors i talentosos Queen. Segons expliquen els surenys, se'ls van menjar amb patates en els concerts que van oferir tots dos a Alemanya, durant la que va ser primera gira europea de Lynyrd Skynyrd. Us imagineu una nit de somni amb els dos primers discos al complet de Lynyrd Skynyrd?. Doncs és això és el que va passar la primavera de 2015 al Florida Theatre de Jacksonville. D'acord, els membres no son exactament els mateixos que van ?parir? aquelles obres mestres, ni Johnny Van Zant és el seu enyorat germà, però l'actual formació de Lynyrd Skynyrd també entra a la categoria de mítica, i escoltar tots aquests clàssics integrament un darrere l'altre és espectacular. Per poder tenir l'oportunitat d'experimentar aquest esdeveniment, el passat octubre es va editar en DVD, Blu-ray i doble CD per fer-nos una petita idea de com va ser la vetllada. No he trobat un link oficial, aquest surt una mica tallada la imatge, però almenys el so és perfecte. Amb els temes Saturday Night Special i Whiskey Rock-A-Roller aconseguirien que l'àlbum entrés al Top 10. La gira que va venir desprès li va donar a la banda una reputació de renegats fora de la llei degut al que passava darrere de bastidors. A causa de l'atapeït i caòtic calendari de la gira el guitarrista Ed King va abandonar la banda. El disc mai va aconseguir arrancar, tot i ser un bon disc, però amb un guitarra menys, els temes es ressenten de la ressonància que provocaven el triplet de guitarres. Conté temes molt recomanables com Double Trouble o Gimme Back My Bullets l'homònim de l'àlbum.
