Quebec Trad Music with De Temps Antan Leading up to the holiday season, CBC Radio 2 and Espace musique invite you to a foot- stomping evening of Quebec traditional music with De Temps Antan and their guests, on Monday, December 1, at 8 p.m., at Le Lion d’Or. Dip into the past with these timeless tunes presented with a fresh new twist. Created in 2003, this extraordinary trio includes Éric Beaudry (vocals, guitar, bouzouki, foot tapping), André Brunet (vocals, fiddle, guitar, foot tapping) and Pierre-Luc Dupuis (vocals, accordion, harmonica, Jew’s harp). With their varied instruments, these three virtuoso performers, who have also played with La Bottine Souriante, inject a spectacular freshness and energy into Quebec traditional music. For this exceptional event, the band will be joined by some very special guests: the multi- instrumentalist Juan Sebastian Larobina (Argentina/Mexico), percussionist Patrick Graham (Canada) and flutist Shuni Tsou (Taiwan). Juan Sebastian Larobina was born in Argentina and grew up in Mexico. Since discovering Quebec traditional music some years back, he has created a new genre he calls “Gaspesian Latino.” With his training in classical and contemporary music, and his exploration of many different styles of world music, Patrick Graham has developed a very personal approach to percussion and an amazing versatility, backing up performers and bands around the world. Taiwanese-born Shuni Tsou is a bamboo flutist who is classically trained in Beijing opera and Chinese classical music. This remarkable improviser has won several prestigious competitions andhas collaborated with many well-known figures in contemporary music. Together, these musicians will offer a new take on Quebec folk music, with their own special touch. It promises to be an evening of traditional music with nothing old-fashioned about it! This event is part of the Mundo Montréal series presented by CBC Radio 2 and Espace musique to showcase the vitality and diversity of the Montreal music scene. The concerts will be recorded for broadcast on CBC Radio 2 and Espace musique. All Mundo Montréal concerts are free and will be held at Le Lion d’Or.
