Steep ocean beaches provide access to GHHSJXWWHUVDQGH[FHOOHQWVXUIÀVKLQJ

From the shelter of the beautiful Pink Gum forests near Salt Creek to the tea-tree areas further south and the wide expanses further to the north, the Coorong offers a chance to get away from it all.

Enjoy walking in the Coorong - through the bush, across the dunes, around the lakes. Marvel at archaeological sites that have survived for over 6000 years.

It is forbidden to disturb these irreplaceable Aboriginal sites.

This small park is one of the last UHPDLQLQJVLJQLÀFDQWVWDQGV of coastal scrub between the Coorong and Robe. The foredune and low-lying areas (swales) contain dense coastal scrub which, if you look closely, has been shaped by persistent strong onshore winds.

A forty hectare wetland area, including Salt Lake and Butcher Lake, is divided by the Butcher Gap Drain. This drain brings large amounts of fresh water each winter from the farmlands, through the park and out to sea.

The Tattler 23 Little Dip Conservation Park

This park was originally set aside to conserve a number of small lakes that are found inland from the Robe Range. The area also conserves a large area of coastal dune systems, a rugged and attractive coastline and part of the foreshore of Lake Eliza. From at least 10 000 years ago, large numbers of Aboriginal people lived in this area, rich in resources with the sea providing the majority of food. Shell heaps or ‘middens’ made XSRIGLVFDUGHGUHPDLQVRIVKHOOÀVK are reminders of the past.

Naracoorte Caves National Park

Naracoorte Caves National Park is one of Australia’s 15 World Heritage Areas, inscribed for the extensive fossil deposits found there. The fossils have revealed much about Australia’s marsupial heritage. Researchers have long pondered why so many of our large animals such as Diprotodon, Zygomaturus and Thylacoleo have all disappeared. An entire family of leaf-eating kangaroos also vanished, probably within the last 50 000 years. Maybe one day, the fossils of Naracoorte Caves will reveal the answers, but for now we can only speculate. Visitors to the park can view fossil deposits on a tour of led by a professional, informative interpreter and discover a little of Australia’s extraordinary extinct animals for themselves.
