14708 Mount Olive Road Ninety-six Archers Participate in Centreville, VA 20121-2517 2016 Fall Tournament

The IWLA indoor archery range was the site of the second annual fall STAR FITA archery tournament held on November 5 and 6, 2016, with a total of 96 registered archers. This year 37 recurve, 8 barebow, and 51 compound target archers competed in the World Archery sanctioned event. The tournament was held over two days with five lines of shooters beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning and ending at 6 p.m. on Sunday. This year we had 38 female and 58 male archers attend the event, including the archery team from Wake Forest University. Several local archery clubs attended the tournament and archers from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, and North Carolina took part in the event. With a perfect score being 600, in the recurve archer’s division the following men took 1st place: Jesus Hernandez (540-Sr.), Brian Boulton (508-Master 50), Dan Roberts (524-Master 60), Jim Kerrigan (528-Master 70), Michael Chung (477-Cadet), Joonsuuh Oh (502-Cub), William Lee (467-Bowman), and Ian Park (195-Yeoman). In addition, several club records were set this year for Master Men 70 (528), Cub Men (502), Master Barebow Men 70 (239), Junior Men Barebow (222), Cub Barebow (195), Master 50 Men Compound (575), Master Men 70 Compound (494), Cadet Men Compound (567), Cub Men Compound (566), Cub Female Recurve (485), Senior Female Compound (560), Junior Female Compound (587), and Cub Female Compound (567). Thanks go to the many volunteers who helped to make this tournament a success: Bob and Joan Walla, Joko Seputro, Byran Kissan, Andy Neville (our official judge), Gilbert Ramey, and especially to Jim Kerrigan, who handled the registration process. The IWLA indoor archery range is the host to two indoor World Archery tournaments a year. The next tournament will be February 11 and 12, 2017. The IWLA Indoor Archery League begins again this January and the IWLA Youth Competition Archery Team (CAT) will begin their first practice on January 8, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the indoor range. Most of the shooters use automatics, while a few stubborn people still use revolvers. Indoor Winter Star FITA Shoot As a fun thing to do for “getting back to basics,” several of the shooters in the league recently shot an improvised World Archery Indoor Tournament “snub-nose challenge” match. All the participants shot 8 a.m., noon, or 4 p.m.—Saturday snub-nosed revolvers with iron sights and barrels of three inches or less for thirty shots at a regulation target. The targets were at twenty- five yards and everyone was shooting centerfire pistols. Recurve/Compound/Barebow Needless to say some humor ensued.
