The Busybody New System for License Purchases (and Boat Registrations) DGIF implemented a new system for license purchases (and boat registrations) on July 1 of this year. Basically, each purchaser will be required to set up an account before purchasing a license. This is similar to purchasing something online at Amazon or some other merchant. Even if the license is purchased at a store, an account will still be created. Eventually, the system should allow DGIF to better serve our customers. However, unfamiliarity and other issues have made it difficult for some purchasers to obtain the licenses they are trying to buy. Many of the issues have been resolved as they were discovered. Some still remain unresolved. Please encourage the students in your classes to get their licenses as much in advance of the hunting seasons as possible in case they have problems. If they have plenty of time before they actually need a license, they can get help at the DGIF Customer Service line at 1-866-721-6911 (available Monday – Friday, during business hours, except holidays). Please ask them to be patient, because there has been a very high volume of calls. Thanks for helping to spread the word. David L. Dodson Hunter Education Program Manager Office: 804-367-2901 Cell: 540-295-4117 Department of Game and Inland Fisheries 7870 Villa Park Drive, Suite 400 P.O. Box 90778 Henrico, VA 23228 Traditional Archery Suggestion for the Newsletter from Roy Rathbun You guys know I don't shoot traditional archery, but I came across this video on YouTube, which I thought was very good. It is a good introduction to TA, and goes into interesting details about point-on, gap, string walking and fixed- crawl, stacking , etc. His method of establishing a consistent anchor was good, too. He also goes into instinctive shooting, equipment tuning, etc. The video is for both target shooters and hunters, and the man hunts with his traditional gear. Video is over two hours, but worth seeing (particularly the first 1 1/2 hours) if TA is your sport, or even if your preference is compound, like me. Makes me think about getting a longbow or recurve and trying this myself! --Roy The Push - A Traditional Archery Film The Busybody Deer Weight Estimation (Pennsylvania System) Cub Run VBA Shoot Schedule for 2017 (correction from last month) Next years Cub Run Archers VBA schedule for 2017 has one correction. The corrected schedule is as follows:: • Winter classic now 30 April 2017 (changed due to Spring 3D origally being scheduled for Easter weekend. Scheduled for club shoots had to be adjusted. • Marked 3D 21 May 2017 • Safari Shoot 11 June 2017 • Buck Buster 10 Sept 2017 The Busybody VBA Awards This year’s State Champion tournament awards will be special acrylic awards for the VBA 75th Anniversary. VBA awards for biggest deer, bear, turkey will be given by category. Traditional, Compound and Crossbow. This is in recognition that most of the members of VBA are hunters rather than tournament shooters (and many are both) . VBA is also looking at restoring the award for biggest doe. If passed this will probably be scored using the Pennsylvania scoring system, (see below) Cub Run Archers Indoor FALL STAR FITA 2016 Tournament Date: November 5-6, 2016 Tournament Location: 14708 Mt. Editorial By Morten WILMANN, Chairman Dear Judges, Your committee has been very busy this spring. We have conducted two international seminars (USA and Thailand) and have corrected the re-accreditation replies, which included 68 answers from each of the 92 judges who sent in their exams. A quick calculation tells us that we had to deal with 6256 questions and replies, and we gave a personal feedback to the 92 judges on their performance. We managed also to “issue a Newsletter in between”, as well as to work on an updated Guide Book. Yes, busy indeed. At the same time I would like to thank you for your efforts put into the re-accreditation test. We are glad to announce that the achievement was much better than the previous test four years ago, which proves that international judging is moving forward, in spite of many rule changes during the period. Take a look at the summing up from the test further down.

  • FINAL Version
FITA JUDGE COMMITTEE NEWSLETTER No. 66 – June 2007 Editorial by the Chairman Dear friends, This is my last Editorial as chairman of the Judge Committee. After next Congress you will have a new chairperson who will lead the Judge Committee elected in Leipzig. I was elected eight years ago in Riom and confirmed in 2003 in New York; after both elections I was named chairperson by the former President Jim Easton. I thank Jim and all other FITA Officers who gave me the opportunity to serve FITA in this period. The judge organization changed a lot to satisfy the new dynamic activity of FITA and the new rules. I am proud to have been an actor and a spectator of this change, but I think that my time is over and I have decided not to apply for a new term in the Committee. I am sure that the new Committee will be able to manage the “judge system” in this new century. I thank also all the FITA judges, all the friends I met since 1989, when I was appointed FITA Judge by my master and mentor Don Lovo: their friendship allowed me to spend a very nice period of my life. For reasons unrelated to FITA and the FITA family, I also decided to retire from active judging. I’ll miss all of you. The last job of my Committee before Congress was to perform the re-accreditation process. The process has been run according to the present rules. However, we (and you) have to consider that immediately after next Congress (when the new term starts) the new by-laws of Appendix 4 approved by Council will be effective.
