Field Visit Report 1 23 june 2015 Mahadevsthan-3, Chaurbeshi, Kavre

Objective: To distribute ceramic water filter sponsored by Disaster Aid International

Current Issue: The local people were drinking spring water. According to the suryey of Dhulikhel Hospital many people are suffering from gallblader stone due to lack of pure and filtrate water. Disaster Aid International team and CDRA Nepal team had visited to Chaurbeshi village and we saw their reality so planned to give sky hydrant filter. But the capacity of that filter is higher than the population size. So that is not suitable for that village thus, with consultation of DAI team we decided to provide locally made ceramic water filter to each house hold for safe drinking water. Villagers are very happy to receive the locally made ceramic water filter which is easy to use and clean.

Recommendation of filters: To villagers:  We recommended that villagers to keep filters in safe place and to clean the filter weekly.  To keep filters out of reach of children so that children should not break.  To make habit of drinking safe filter water.

1

To Donors (DAI):  To promote local products (ceramic filter)  Support to local economy.  Not to import filters of complex design and need electric power.

Situational Report on Psychosocial counseling in Chaurbeshi, Mahadevsthan VDC of Kavre Rupa Karmacharya District Health office Kavre

In Nepal devastated strong EARTHQUAKE in April 25, 2015 resulted big loss of humanitarian and physical construction in different region of Nepal. Our affected area chaurbeshi is also included in list. CDRA Nepal responded immediately by providing relief packages in different region of Nepal as well as temporary shelter counseling scheme with the help of it’s donor agency and by oneself.

Having huge loss of physical construction and humanitarian loss a big mental insecurity prevailed after disaster among those survived community in Chaurbashi, Mahadevsthan VDC. Ashok Kumar Shrestha, Director of CDRA Nepal noticed and indentified this problem during his project of temporary shelter construction, implementing and need assessment and co-ordination phase in Chaurbeshi. Then he called me for providing mental reassurance and psychosocial counseling to reduce mental trauma of vulnerable group like marginalized people, woman, old age woman, pregnant, post natal mothers.

A psychosocial support and counseling program in community from was carried our along with CDRA’s others program in different region. In Chaurbeshi Eye Camp, Temporary shelter construction program and community psychosocial counseling was held jointly in 2015.

Name of program: - Mass Psychosocial counseling Target Area :- Chaurbeshi, Mahadevstha VDC Organized by :- CDRA Nepal

Objectives

To evaluate the mental condition of vulnerable group there are so many risk group and then to make a plan for future for individual Psychosocial counseling to provide mental support for them to reduce their fear , anxiety.

Activities

When people were started to come to get eye camp’s service, I was providing them the information to be attended psychosocial counseling nearby safe side. As woman came into room, I managed the sitting plan for them. There were around 50 women for listening counseling eagerly. I started my Job thoroughly as usual provided and delivered other

3 venue. The content of psychosocial counseling, objectives, importance, benefit, theme, reason was gradually delivered to community by me. They were early listening to me among of them someone was crying, someone was being emotionally felt better while providing counseling.

I was noticing all changes in their face. They arouse so many intimate questions to me. They didn’t want to stop the class. They were interaction openly each other their problem and were different women had different mental trauma after disaster some women had only worried for their lost assets and some women seemed worried just for their humanitarian loss. How co-incidence l about in end of session of counseling big tremor happened at psychosocial counseling providing room. They became worried and scared and tried to be away from there .A few minute disturbances. They were again wanted to be that room for receiving my counseling but the matters of counseling had already finished and I was reconciling them informally outside of school. They were felt very happy and feel better mentally after getting psychosocial counseling. They comminuted for rebuilding their confident, physical consolation and acclimatization in front of me. I think there need of frequently follow up counseling during CDRA's project implementation become. They could be lost again their mental security in lack of mental support, they are so vulnerable group and emotionally weak.

Psychosocial Counseling

Psychosocial counseling is communication between Client and Counselor in which problem of client is explore by providing emotional support by counselor and help Client to Explore Various ideas in order to find appropriate solution. it could be delivered to community as known community Psychosocial support in critical situation after Disaster.

Gauribisauna, Deupur is the one of the severe affected VDC of Kavre, where we had moved during relief program. After assessing people's psychological condition it had seemed a need of psychosocial support as well. CDRA Nepal had made contact to me for providing psychosocial counseling to community people of Gauribisauna, Deupur during its temporary shelter construction program.
