I. Overview of NYU’s Global Sites

NYU gives students the opportunity to study in some of the world’s most dynamic cities. Courses are developed with academic departments in New York City to meet NYU’s high academic standards and to develop global academic pathways to help students stay on track with their major requirements. Day trips and guided excursions complement in-class instruction and internships, and experiential learning placements introduce students to the local culture. Full- time professional staff and exceptional local faculty support students in learning about their new environment. Housing is guaranteed at all locations.

NYU Accra Course work offered in Accra, the capital of Ghana, fosters academic and personal growth by using the city as a laboratory. Academic pathways are available in areas including Africana studies, global public health, and metropolitan studies. Other areas of study include art history, Gallatin seminars, nutrition, and more. The multidisciplinary curriculum is combined with internships and volunteer opportunities. Students may also take one or two courses at the University of Ghana-Legon, our affiliated institution in Ghana. The NYU academic center is located in the beautiful residential neighborhood of Labone, and students live in a nearby NYU residence hall.

NYU Berlin NYU Berlin is perfect for students majoring in the social sciences, humanities, and mathematics. Courses are taught in English, and German language courses are offered at all levels. Academic pathways are available in art and art professions, environmental studies, mathematics, politics, and sociology. NYU Berlin is located in a renovated 19th-century building in the popular Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood. Students live in an NYU residence hall in the lively district of Kreuzberg.

NYU Buenos Aires In addition to course work in Latin American studies and Spanish, the curriculum at NYU Buenos Aires offers academic pathways in global public health and media. Further areas of study to supplement the pathways include art history, Gallatin seminars, psychology, and more. Courses are taught in both English and Spanish, and language courses are offered at all levels. The academic center is located in a stunning, Tudor-style building in Barrio Norte, an upscale neighborhood in the Argentine capital. Students primarily live in a homestay with an Argentine host family.

NYU Florence The curriculum at NYU Florence focuses on the humanities, social research, and public policy and the law. Academic pathways, taught in English, are offered in art history, business, fashion, and prelaw. Courses in economics, history, mathematics, and more are also offered, along with Gallatin seminars. The Intensive Italian Language Program, with courses taught in Italian, is available for students who want to advance their language skills. La Pietra, home to NYU Florence, is a breathtaking 57-acre estate consisting of five villas, a Renaissance-revival garden, and olive groves. Students may choose to live on the estate, in central Florence in NYU-leased residences, or in a homestay with a Florentine host family.

NYU London NYU London offers academic pathways in Africana studies, the arts, business, fashion, prehealth, and psychology. Additional areas of study include cinema studies, economics, environmental studies, global public health, and more. The academic center is located in three converted 18th- century townhouses on historic in the scholarly neighborhood of . Students live in residence halls nearby.

NYU Madrid Established in 1958, NYU Madrid is the University’s oldest global academic center. It offers Spanish language courses at all levels and liberal arts courses taught in English and Spanish that explore the culture and history of Spain and Latin America. Students choose from academic pathways in business and Spanish language. Courses are also offered in anthropology, history, politics, and more. The academic center consists of two chalet-style buildings connected by a courtyard in the beautiful neighborhood of El Viso. Students choose between living in a madrileño household with a host family and renting a furnished apartment with other NYU Madrid students.

NYU Paris The curriculum at NYU Paris offers academic pathways in art history, French language and culture, media, music and performance arts, and philosophy. Students can also take courses in cinema studies, history, politics, and theatre, among others. Courses are taught in both English and French. Advanced language students take courses instructed in French at the NYU center and at affiliated universities in the French academic system. The academic center is a newly renovated building located on the Left Bank near many French universities and the Luxembourg Gardens. Students may choose to live in a Parisian household with a host family or rent a furnished apartment with other students at NYU Paris.

NYU Prague Located near the Old Town Square of the Czech capital, NYU Prague offers students the unique experience of studying in a post-Communist society. Taught in English, academic pathways are offered in economics, journalism, law and society, music, and sociology. Students can further supplement their pathway with courses in anthropology, history, international relations, and more, as well as Gallatin seminars. Language courses in Czech, German, Polish, and Russian are available. Students live in NYU-managed residence halls that are a short commute to the NYU center.

NYU Sydney NYU Sydney, located in Australia’s largest and most cosmopolitan city, offers students the unparalleled opportunity to study in one of the great hubs of commerce, culture, and communication in the Asia-Pacific region. Through academic pathways in business, environmental studies, global public health, indigenous cultures, and prehealth, students stay on track with their major. Other areas of study include anthropology, creative writing, media and communications, psychology, and more. The academic center is a recently renovated historic building in the popular Rocks area of downtown Sydney. Students live in a nearby residence.

NYU Tel Aviv At NYU Tel Aviv, students experience life in the cultural, financial, and technological center of Israel, while following academic pathways in areas such as politics and the sciences. Students gain insight into cutting-edge developments in science and technology while working in laboratories, participate in the country’s entrepreneurial economic and business sectors and develop a deep understanding of the Middle East region, political movements, and religious traditions. Further areas of study to supplement the pathways include business, Gallatin seminars, history, media, sociology, and more. Language courses are offered in Hebrew and Arabic. Internships are available with a number of organizations, including media outlets, museums, and various nongovernmental organizations. Students take courses and live in a facility across from HaYarkon Park.

NYU Washington, DC NYU Washington, DC, is located just blocks from the White House, the World Bank, and the Smithsonian and adjacent to the cultural attractions on the 14th Street corridor. Academic pathways include business and political economy, journalism, politics, and public policy. Courses in art history, environmental studies, metropolitan studies, and more are also offered, along with Gallatin seminars. An extensive internship program complements in-class learning. The 12-story Constance Milstein and Family Academic Center features residential space as well as seminar rooms, meeting spaces, a 200-seat auditorium, and an expansive lobby that doubles as a student lounge and a venue for public events.

NYU Abu Dhabi has created a visionary new model for higher education at the crossroads of the world -- NYU Abu Dhabi -- combining the best of a research university education with the advantages of a liberal arts, sciences, and engineering curriculum. NYU Abu Dhabi, as a degree- granting portal campus of the University, establishes a powerful environment for faculty and students to access NYU's global network, with more than 350 courses on offer in AY13-14, and more than 400 in AY14-15, across 24 majors in the sciences, social sciences, humanities, arts, and engineering. NYU Abu Dhabi's Career Development Center provides assistance for students seeking on- and off-campus internships. Students are housed in new residence halls, located on NYU Abu Dhabi's new Saadiyat Island campus, which is also home to state-of-the-art academic, cultural, and recreational facilities, as well as the University's Health and Wellness Center.

NYU Shanghai NYU Shanghai, the newest four-year degree-granting campus in NYU’s global network, offers a rigorous academic curriculum with liberal arts courses taught in English; Chinese language courses are offered at all levels. This is an ideal program for students who are interested in business, East Asian studies, history, media, and studio art. Students attend classes at the NYU campus in the Pudong district of downtown Shanghai. Students live in NYU-arranged housing with other NYU Shanghai students.
