BRAND NEW DRUGS • Ex-Members of Shotmaker and Three Penny Opera • Band will be touring Canada, Europe and Japan to support the new record (they are currently banned from coming into the United States for five years) The Grey is a powerful, melodic rock quartet that periodically delves into experimental tangents. With influences ranging from Fugazi, the Jesus Lizard, Seaweed, Drive Like Jehu, and Juno to Tom Petty, The MC5, Neil Young, and Nick Cave, one can be assured that hints of styles, new and established, can be found in their post-rock stylings. Formed in the spring of 2003 in Ottawa, Canada, The Grey turned sporadic practices among old friends in a sweltering attic into a weekly ritual. This allowed the members of previous bands such as Shotmaker, Three Penny Opera, and Buried Inside to assemble a new musical group. These casual sessions quickly began to churn out a hybrid of punk rock and quirky experimental parts that sparked the enthusiasm of everyone involved and The Grey was born. Asleep at the Wheel, their first full-length, is an energetic blast of raw feeling and forward thinking. One of the highlights of The Grey's debut is their ability to meld effortlessly different musical elements and influences into something wholly satisfying and engaging. The Grey's music on Asleep at the Wheel is at once cerebral and violently passionate, a quality often sorely lacked by their musical peers. The Grey is Matt Deline (guitar/vox), Hayden Menzies (percussion), Chuck Saso (guitar/back vox), and Luke Rashotte (bass/vox). They have performed with band such as Engine Down, Thursday, The Constantines, Pretty Girls Make Graves, and Death From Above 1979, among others. They plan to tour Canada, Europe, and Japan extensively in support of Asleep at the Wheel. LOVITT RECORDS • P.O. • The Sneak Preview Official Biography
The Sneak Preview Official Biography The Sneak Preview was a melodic punk rock band from Maple, Ontario. They formed in the summer of 2000, after Joel Bath (drums) and Mike Mucci (guitar) broke up their band “Then Who Is the Liar?”. The duo started writing new songs alone in Joel’s parent’s basement in Thornhill, Ontario, with influences from Dinosaur Jr., Elliot, Sunny Day Real Estate and a few more local Ontario bands. They then invited Mark “Augie” Petja, to join as bassist as he had previously played in Five Finger Discount with them. The final addition would be Marco Fardella on vocals. Now a complete band, they moved their rehearsal space to Mike’s parent’s house in Maple, Ontario, where they continued to practice until the end. With their first few songs composed, The Sneak Preview were invited to play at a field party somewhere north of Toronto. The details of this have faded with time. But their second should would be well documented. Mike and his girlfriend (now wife) Vicki Bonanno had been booking a few shows for local bands at The Masonic Lodge in Maple, Ontario. It was there that they had booked one of Then Who Is the Liar?’s show in May of 2000 with The China White. The Sneak Preview at their first real show, September 30th 2000 at The Masonic Lodge in Maple, Ontario. Photo courtesy of Vicki Bonanno Eager to play with Chris Gray again, the couple contacted him to book his new band, Zyon, with The Sneak Preview at The Masonic Lodge on September 30th.

  • INITIALS C.C. Liner Notes
Chris Connelly : INITIALS C.C. Out-takes, Rarities and Personal Favourites 1982-2002 vol.1 01. Detestimony – Fini Tribe: This was the “A” side of an EP called “Let the Tribe Grow,” written and recorded when the Fini Tribe was going through great musical changes. We had acquired an Ensoniq ‘Mirage’ sampling keyboard, and as was the same for a lot of bands at the time, it changed everything, opened up a lot of doors, and led us into some very uncharted waters. The actual piece was whittled down from a fifteen-minute opus we had written. I remember being in Philip Pinsky’s bedroom one night with John Vick. Philip’s then-roommate, Lindsay, gave us an old quarter-inch reel of tape he had. On it was a beautiful recording of the church bells you hear on the song; we sampled them and came up with the melody. The EP actually did better than any of us had anticipated and became a sort of hit in the Ibiza clubs at the very advent of the acid house/rave phenomenon. We actually went ahead and re-wrote/re- structured the song for the WaxTrax! Records release (“Make it Internal/Detestimony Revisited”) a couple of years later. 02. Mania – Murder Inc.: Certainly what I feel is the most compelling song on the one and only album released by Murder Inc. The band was basically Killing Joke, minus Jaz Coleman (Killing Joke’s singer), plus me, as well as the original drummer, Paul Fergusson, and newer drummer, Martin Atkins. The sessions took place at Pachyderm Studios in rural Minnesota during September of 1991.

  • The Weather Station the Weather Station
Paradise of Bachelors P.O. Box 1402, Carrboro, NC 27510 www.paradiseofbachelors.com / [email protected] US PR: Jessica Linker, [email protected] UK PR: Will Lawrence, [email protected] Everywhere else: [email protected] On her fourth (and tellingly self-titled) album as The Weather Station, Tamara Lindeman reinvents, and more deeply roots, her extraordinary, acclaimed songcraft, framing her precisely detailed, exquisitely wrought prose-poem narratives in bolder and more cinematic musical settings. The result is her most sonically direct and emotionally candid statement to date, a work of profound urgency and artistic generosity. The Weather Station is the fourth—and most forthright—album by The Weather Station. The most fully realized statement to date from Toronto songwriter Tamara Lindeman, it is a work of profound urgency, artistic generosity, and joy. Self-titled and self-produced, the album unearths a vital new energy from Lindeman’s acclaimed songwriting practice, marrying it to a bold new sense of confidence. “I wanted to make a rock and roll record,” Lindeman explains, “but one that sounded how I wanted it to sound, which of course is nothing like rock and roll.” The result is a spirited, frequently topical tour de force that declares its understated feminist politics, and its ambitious new sonic directions, from its first moments. Opener Free“ ,” with its jagged distorted guitar, is wryly anti-freedom—how very un-rock-and-roll!—in response to mansplaining chatter: “Was I free as I should be, or free as you were? Is it me that you’re talking to? I never could stand those simple words.” The song ends as strings conjure an unsettling “devil’s triad” chord, shifting between dissonance and order.

Page 6 V 0L 99, No. 50 Published for San Jose State University since 1934 November 6, 1992 Student My achy-breaky back withdraws vi complaint Student cites lack of time BY KERRY PETERS Spartan Daily Stall Writer A complaint against the Campus Democrats alleging verbal and physical threats has been dropped. Marcia Holstrom, the student who filed the letter of complaint, decided to drop her charges. "It's just not worth it:' Holstrom said. "I don't have the time, and I don't have the energy to fight it:' The complaint, addressed to Dan Buerger, execu- tive assistant to Interim President J. Handel Evans, was filed last week after Holstrom interrupted a Campus Democrats press conference on Oct. 22 at Tower Quad. Holstrom said she interrupted the con- ference because she objected to the group's use of the university seal which she thought might lead people to believe SJSU was endorsing Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton for president. When Holstrom came forward at the event, sever- al members of the group hosting the event verbally attacked her, Holstrom said, and threatened to "take care of her later:' prompting her to file the complaint. However, members of the Campus Democrats and other people who participated in the event PATTI EAGAN SPARTAN DAILY denied Holstrom's charges. Carol Sullivan, In her step training class, pushes her students to the limit every Tuesday and Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Spartan Complex. Holstrom said that after talking to Phil Sanders, Step training is a type of aerobics that emphasizes a cardiovascular workout and muscle toning without the stress to the joints.

  • 2015 Interview.Pdf
Interview from Spew, #87 February 2015 (originally published in abridged form) 2014’s triple disc behemoth Harshest Realm is the self-titled debut release of a musical project spearheaded by one Garret Kriston, a Chicago based musician whose formative years were split between formal studies and basement recording before toiling within the city’s DIY/punk scene. Now he has emerged with a sprawling document of what surely is a vast arsenal of artistic capabilities. Harshest Realm is now available via Coolatta Lounge CDs, along with fellow traveler Marshall Stacks’s latest jammers Lost in Sim City and the Snake Eyes/Point Blank single. ___________________________________________ Let’s start by giving the folks at home some background information. I’m particularly interested in learning how your relationship with music has developed over the years, so as to better understand where the music on the Harshest Realm album came from. No problem. I’m going to not hold back from rattling off influences and favorites, if that’s okay. Totally. The more the merrier. I was born at home on March 3rd, 1990 in Oak Park, down the street from Chicago’s west side, near Harlem between Harrison and Roosevelt. My earliest memory of music was seeing archival footage of The Beatles playing on the Ed Sullivan Show, which made playing guitar in a band and singing original songs seem like the most appealing activity in existence. I might have been two going on three, and I don’t remember much else from then besides puking in my crib and seeing carrots in it (the puke.) My older brother was discovering “classic rock,” so there were rock related bootleg VHS tapes in the house that would get played over and over.
