Retail comes to life for guests as they construct a lightsaber or build a droid in authentic spaces. The products deliver a level of authenticity, realism and storytelling that can only be achieved at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers Guests can customize their own legendary lightsabers as they choose their paths in this immersive retail experience. A group known as the Gatherers ushers guests into a covert workshop packed with unusual parts and whimsical pieces collected from the far reaches of the galaxy. Under the Gatherers’ guidance, guests construct one-of-a-kind lightsabers and bring them to life through the power of kyber crystals. Guests select from the following lightsaber themes: Peace and Justice– Utilize salvaged scraps of fallen Jedi temples and crashed starships in Republic-era lightsaber designs that honor the galaxy’s former guardians. Fresh off the experience of ‘X-Wing’ ’, I was ready for its sequel. And with ‘Tie Fighter’,LucasArts promised to delivera very different gaming experience. While previously my exploits in the Star Wars universe had been limited to the perspective of the benevolent Rebel Alliance, this time, I was joining the ranks of the Evil Galactic Empire. And I was very excited to finally be playing the role of a bad-guy. So much so, in fact, that not ten seconds into the opening crawl I had already embraced the Empire’s ‘proactive’ stance on Galactic defense. And while it’s important to realize that there are two sides to every conflict (the Empire can’tbe all bad, can it?), somehow I sensed that my concerns we no longer with the unalienable rights of the galactic inhabitants. A Theology of Star Wars
A THEOLOGY OF STAR WARS As a Star Wars-obsessed child in the early 1980s, I would hear rumors that George Lucas envisioned his space opera to be part of an epic, nine-movie cycle. As I mourned the “end” of the series in 1983, with the release of Return of the Jedi, I could only hope that those rumors would someday prove true. So they have, first with the trilogy of prequels, released between 1999 and 2005, and now with a new trilogy that brings the “Skywalker saga” to a close. It’s a Star Wars world once again; we’re just geeking in it. Watching the original movies as a kid, I didn’t much associate their fantastical stories with the biblical narratives I learned at church. Sure, there was good and evil, as well as some vaguely spiritual notion of “the Force,” but in my mind Star Wars and faith were entirely separate things. Clearly I’ve changed my opinion on that, considering I now serve as producer of Think Christian, a faith and pop culture website and podcast where we declare there is “no such thing as secular.” As soon as news broke about plans for the first installment in this latest trilogy, 2015’s The Force Awakens, I knew it would be an occasion to turn TC’s distinctive theological lens—with our emphasis on common grace and God’s sovereignty over all things—toward one of the most dominate film franchises in history. We’re thrilled to have gathered some of the sharpest thinkers on faith and popular culture to participate in this endeavor.
