  • Toni Braxton Announces North American Fall Tour
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TONI BRAXTON ANNOUNCES NORTH AMERICAN FALL TOUR Detroit (August 8, 2016) – Seven-time GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter and actress Toni Braxton announces her North American tour. Kicking off on Saturday, October 8 in Oakland, Braxton will tour more than 20 cities, ending with a show in Atlantic City, NJ on Saturday, November 12. Most recently, Braxton released “Love, Marriage & Divorce,” a duets album with Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds. The album took off behind “Hurt You,” the Urban AC #1 duet hit co-written by Toni Braxton & Babyface (with Daryl Simmons and Antonio Dixon), and produced by Babyface. The two also shared the win for Best R&B Album at the 2015 GRAMMY Awards. Today, with over 67 million in sales worldwide and seven GRAMMY Awards, Braxton is recognized as one of the most outstanding voices of this generation. Her distinctive sultry vocal blend of R&B, pop, jazz and gospel became an instantaneous international sensation when she came forth with her first solo recording in 1992. Braxton stormed the charts in the 90’s with the releases of “Toni Braxton” and “Secrets,” which spawned the hit singles and instant classics; “Another Sad Love Song,” “Breathe Again,” “You’re Makin’ Me High,” and “Unbreak My Heart.” Today, Braxton balances the demands of her career with the high priorities of family, health and public service as she raises her two sons Denim and Diezel. This year Toni was the Executive Producer of the highly-rated Lifetime movie “Unbreak My Heart” which was based on her memoir and she is the star of the WEtv hit reality series Braxton Family Values in its fifth season.

  • John Mellencamp
JOHN MELLENCAMP Born October 7, 1951 in Seymour, Indiana, John Mellencamp fell in love with music at an early age and was gigging in local bars and fronting a soul band by the time he was 14. His professional music career began in earnest in 1976 when MCA Records released his first album, The Chestnut Street Incident. His manager dubbed him Johnny Cougar out of his belief that nobody would buy a record by anybody named Mellencamp. John protested but was overruled and eventually, of course, reclaimed his birth name as his public name. After releasing a few albums, he broke out in 1979 with his first hit, "I Need A Lover" In 1982 his fifth album American Fool was the year's best-selling album on the strength of two huge hits, "Hurts So Good," and the number 1 single "Jack & Diane,"!! The albums that followed in the 80's, Uh-Huh, Scarecrow, Lonesome Jubilee, and Big Daddy, were released under the name John Cougar Mellencamp. Hit singles during this period included "Crumblin Down," "The Authority Song," "Small Town," "Rain On The Scarecrow," "Lonely Ol Night," ""R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A.," "Paper In Fire," "Check It Out," "Cherry Bomb," "Pop Singer," and "Jackie Brown." Mellencamp took the music on the road with a band that many considered the best in the business, playing approximately 1,000 shows around the globe during the decade. In 1985, John's concern for the plight of the American farmer, which had been voiced in the Scarecrow album, brought him together with Willie Nelson and Neil Young in launching Farm Aid.

  • Roots Report: Getting Out
Roots Report: Getting Out Okee dokee folks … Got out to a few shows this week and want to let you know what you all missed and what I thought of them. On Thurs, Apr 16, John Cougar Mellencamp made a stop with his Plain Spoken tour at Providence Performing Arts Center. It seemed like it was a full house for the PPAC show. And the fans who filled the auditorium appeared to be lifelong followers, and a good deal of that crowd appeared to be in the 45+ age range (now are they called “Mellenheads”?). The six-piece, tuxedoed and gowned band took the stage at about 8:40 and played for a minute or two before Mellencamp joined them. Mellencamp hit the stage, Telecaster in hand, and launched into “Lawless Times,” “Troubled Man,” “Minutes To Memories” and “Small Town.” The audience was up and down in their seats all night, but mostly up. Mellencamp didn’t say a word to the crowd until after he finished “Small Town.” At that point he said, “I’m John Mellencamp. I’m going to play some songs that you know, some that you don’t, some that you can sing along and dance to. I’ll be singing all kinds of songs tonight.” His band, stripped down to a three-piece of upright bass, cocktail drums and slide guitar and Mellencamp, sang the Robert Johnson cover, “Stones In My Passway.” “Human Wheels” brought the full band back and a few songs later Mellencamp picked up an acoustic guitar and did a solo version of “Jack and Diane.” He prefaced that song by saying, “The next song I am going to do I have been playing for an awfully long time … it pretty much says what I was doing the day I wrote the song … but I left some of it out.” The audience accompanied him along very loudly and Mellencamp let them take it alone a few times.
