Elisabeth D. 12/23/04 ELA 4CHM Judy Blume Write Life Judy Blume often gets ideas for her fictional writing from her personal experiences. I have read Blubber and Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume. I got my information off the internet, from a biography about Judy Blume and from an interview. Judy Blume has used lots of experiences from her life in her stories. Judy Blume got the character Fudge from her son Larry. Fudge is a character in Judy Blume’s books such as Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Fudge-A-Mania, Double Fudge and Super Fudge. Fudge is based on Larry when Larry was a pre-schooler. Fudge and Larry had things in common. They were both pretty crazy and always want to have fun. That is one example of how Judy uses experiences from her life in her books. Judy Blume got the idea for Blubber from her daughter Randy. There was a very mean girl in her class that would make fun and tease people. In the story Blubber there is a mean girl named Wendy. Judy Blume got Wendy from the mean girl. Judy Bume said that if the teacher had been paying more attention then the girl would not be able to the kids very much. That is another example. In Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing Fudge swallows a turtle. The turtle is Fudge’s brother’s turtle named Dribble. Judy Blume got the idea for that from a newspaper article she read. The article said a young boy had swallowed a turtle. That is one last example. In conclusion, Judy Blume often gets ideas for her fictional writing from her personal experiences. She got the character Fudge from her son Larry. She got the idea for Blubber from a mean girl in her daughter’s class. Judy Blume got the idea for Fudge to swallow a turtle from a newspaper article she read. Judy Blume is a great author! .
