Fabian hit only .200 in 112 games with the SJ Giants last season. * First half winner Today’s Games Phillips Wins Weekly Award: Aaron Phillips was named California League Pitcher of the Week on San Jose at Modesto, 7:05 Monday. In two starts last week, Phillips tossed 14 2/3 innings with only one earned run allowed, one R. Cucamonga at Lake Elsinore, 7:00 walk and 15 strikeouts (2-0 record). Phillips twirled a one-hit shutout last Sunday against Inland Lancaster at Inland Empire, 7:05 Empire, retiring 27 of 28 batters faced in the outing. It marked the first nine-inning shutout thrown by a San Jose Giants pitcher since Eric Surkamp on May 16, 2010 (vs. Bakersfield). The weekly award was Phillips’ second of the season. BROADCAST Hector Borg At The Helm: Hector Borg was named manager of the San Jose Giants on July 17 replacing Bill Hayes, who resigned four days earlier.
