Blue Jackets | Center Ryan MacInnis acquired in trade with Arizona By George Richards - July 19, 2018

The Blue Jackets made a trade with Arizona on Wednesday, acquiring center Ryan MacInnis for defenseman Jacob Graves and a conditional draft pick. Both players have yet to play a game in the NHL as they have spent their pro careers in the minor leagues. Both are on two-way contracts, with different compensation for NHL and minor-league play. If MacInnis plays in 20 games with Columbus next season, the Jackets would send a fifth-round draft pick to the Coyotes in 2020; if not, Arizona gets a sixth-round selection in 2019. The 22-year-old MacInnis was picked in the second round of the 2014 draft and has scored 14 goals with 31 points in 129 AHL games. Graves, 23, split the past two seasons in the AHL and ECHL.

RI Hockey Journal: Brown’s Giuttari is on Blue Jackets’ Radar By Mark Divver – July 18, 2018

Brown University defenseman Zach Giuttari parlayed a sophomore season in which he quintupled his point total into an invitation to development camp with the Columbus Blue Jackets during the last week of June.

“It was a blast,″ said the 22-year-old Warwick native and Providence Capitals alum, who is majoring in engineering at Brown.

“We had a skate and a light workout each day -- some skating stuff and some skill work. Then we’d go in the weight room and do a couple of lifts. After that, we’d have lunch. One day we did a nutrition session (in the afternoon). One day we did rock climbing. We had a cooking class – life skills and stuff like that. CPR, too. It was a great all-around life experience,″ he said.

“My exit meeting was pretty quick. They said they’ve been watching me and so have other teams. They said they were glad I chose their team for camp. And to just keep working. Said they’ll be watching all year. Keep developing my game.″

Giuttari – who traveled a circuitous route from Moses Brown to the Loomis Chafee School in Connecticut and then to Chilliwack of the British Columbia Hockey League before enrolling on College Hill -- will spend the rest of the summer working out at Brown and playing in the Foxboro Pro League.

DeFrietas going north

Kyle DeFreitas of Barrington is going all in on major junior hockey.

When the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League open their preseason camp in mid-August, DeFreitas plans on being there and staying beyond the 48 hours allowed by the NCAA.

“I’m going to try it. Hopefully it works out in my favor. That’s what my is for the season,″ he said.

DeFreitas, who put up 39 points in 41 games for the Junior Bruins of the USPHL Elite league last season, was drafted by Rimouski in the second round of the QMJHL American draft in May.

“Juniors have always been something that pops out to me. I was definitely happy to get drafted by (Rimouski). I was looking forward to do it because colle
