Kythera Friendship Trail

On Saturday May 13th, 2017, the Toronto Bruce Trail Club celebrated the Bruce Trail Conservancy’s partnership with the island of Kythera, Greece by establishing a 12 km section of the Bruce Trail as the “Kythera Friendship Trail”.

The official opening and ribbon cutting near St. Helena Road was followed by a hike to Hilton Falls Conservation Area for a picnic lunch. The guest of honour was George Kasimatis, directly from Greece for the occasion .

About Kythera and Kythera Hiking

Kythera, the island of goddess Aphrodite, is the secret jewel of Greek seas, a source of inspiration for movies, paintings and songs and a symbol of the ideal place for great intellectuals and artists.

There is no better way to explore Kythera than by walking. Kythera Hiking is the official programme for the development of the island’s trail network which started in 2010 and it is run by the Kytherian Foundation for Culture & Development. The gradually expanding network currently offers twelve organized and signposted hiking routes which will guide you through age-old paths, scenic spots, waterfalls, ravines, medieval villages, secluded shores and generally some of the best locations on the island.
