PROVINCES AND TENURE OF MEMBERS

Victoria was divided into 22 Provinces each of which returned two members to the Council [Constitution Act 1975, section 27(1)].

A Member of the Council was entitled to hold his seat from the date appointed for taking the poll (periodical election date) until the expiration or dissolution of the second Legislative Assembly after he had been elected [Constitution Act 1975, section 28(1) and (2)].
