Gnutel, E. Gnutel Ukrainian Greek-Catholic leaders meet with Pope at the Vatican A two-day meeting with leaders of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, convened by Pope Francis, begins Friday at the Vatican. Present for the encounter are the Greek Catholic Major Archbishop of Kyiv-Halych, Sviatoslav Shevchuk; the members of the Permanent Synod and the Metropolitans of the Church; and the heads of various discasteries of the Roman Curia. By Vatican News The meeting at the Vatican of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, called by Pope Francis, took place July 5 & 6. The encounter called together the Greek Catholic Major Archbishop of Kyiv-Halych, Sviatoslav Shevchuk; the members of the Permanent Synod and the Metropolitans of the Church; and the heads of the dicasteries of the Roman Curia that are competent for the Country. Sign of closeness In the statement announcing the meeting, the Holy See Press Office said, “In the delicate and complex situation in which Ukraine finds itself, the Holy Father… wishes to give a sign of his closeness to the Ukrainian Greek- Catholic Church that carries out pastoral service both at home and in various places in the world. “This meeting will also offer a further opportunity to deepen the analysis of the life and needs of Ukraine, with the aim of identifying the ways in which the Catholic Church, and in particular the Greek-Catholic Church, can dedicate itself ever more effectively to preaching the Gospel, contributing to the support of those who suffer and promoting peace, in agreement, as far as possible, with the Catholic Church of the Latin rite and with other Churches and Christian communities.” The humanitarian mission the Pope desires for Ukraine Pope Francis has always had this country particularly at heart, ravaged by a conflict that has been ongoing for five years. In 2016, he promoted a humanitarian initiative for Ukraine, with an active participation of the Catholic churches in Europe and of the faithful of the other parts of the world, and with the collaboration of other confessions and international organization, to meet, in a concrete manner, the basic needs of the inhabitants of the territories struck by the war. The prayer for peace Pope Francis has made numerous appeals for peace in Ukraine. In his Easter message this year, the Holy Father said, “May this Easter bring comfort to the people of the eastern regions of Ukraine, who suffer from the continuing conflict. May the Lord encourage initiatives of humanitarian aid and those aimed at pursuing a lasting peace.” Relations with the Orthodox In January, Pope Francis met with Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, the Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine. A statement from the nunciature said that the Pope “dwelled upon the delicate conditions of the relations within the Orthodoxy, on the contribution which the Catholic Churches in Ukraine bring to the well-being of the country, on the political and social environment, particularly the need to make every possible effort in the attempts to favour peace through dialogue, for the wellbeing of the citizens and the commitments to improve the the conditions of everybody and the full exercise of religious freedom.” Respect for international law That same month, speaking to the diplomatic corps accredited to the Holy See, Pope Francis had drawn attention to the humanitarian initiative he had launched in favour of the suffering people of Ukraine: “The Church and her various institutions will pursue this mission, also in the hope of drawing greater attention to other humanitarian questions, including that of the treatment of the numerous prisoners. Through her activities and her closeness to the people involved, the Church strives to encourage, directly and indirectly, peaceful paths to the solution of the conflict, paths that are respectful of justice and law, including international law, which is the basis of security and coexistence in the entire region. To this end, the instruments that guarantee the free exercise of religious rights remain important.” Divine Liturgy Intentions July 14 – 20 Sun. • The Holy See
The Holy See SOLEMNITY OF THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD HOMILY OF HIS HOLINESS POPE JOHN PAUL II Sunday, 6 January 2002 1. "Lumen gentium ... Christus", "Christ is the light of the nations" (Lumen gentium, n. 1). The theme of light dominates the Solemnities of Christmas and Epiphany that in the first centuries - and still today in the East - were celebrated together in a single great "feast of lights". The light appears in the warm intimacy of the Holy Night of Christmas Eve; Christ, the Light of humanity, is born. He is the "sun that shall dawn upon us from on high" (Lk 1,78). He is the sun that came into the world to dispel the darkness of evil and flood it with the splendour of divine love. John the Evangelist writes: "The true light that enlightens every man came into the world" (Jn 1,9). "Deus lux est - God is light", St John reminds us, summing up not a gnostic theory but "the message that we received from him" (1 Jn 1,5), from Jesus. In his Gospel he quotes the words on the lips of the Teacher: "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (Jn 8,12). In becoming flesh, the Son of God was manifested as light. He is not just an external light in the history of the world, but a light within the human person, in his personal history. He became one of us, giving infinite meaning and immortality to our earthly existence.

St Fillans Parish Newsletter Dunkeld Diocese, Scottish Charity No: SC001810 Webpage: stfdac.co.uk 12th July 2020 15th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR A During this very difficult period, it was felt that some form of communication/support network could prove very useful to Parishioners, especially those who are housebound and vulnerable. Please contact Fr. Les by phone 01877 330 702 or by email: [email protected] for further information. RESPECTING CREATION The parable of the sower is a story about the fruitfulness of the earth. It assures us that the harvest will come in spite of the many obstacles that stand in the way. In the end, the rocks and birds and trampling feet cannot nullify the fact that “the seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest.” Paul talks about the salvation of the world, pointing out that “the world itself will be freed from its slavery to corruption and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God.” Meanwhile, “all creation groans and is in agony”: we pollute the clear air and the fresh water; we drive plants and animals to extinction; we clear-cut forests and we strip-mine, leaving ugly scars in the land. The opening prayer calls on us “to reject what is contrary to the gospel.” Isn’t it contrary to the “good news” to waste and destroy God’s creation? The Creator has “greatly enriched the land.” How dare we impoverish it! The commitment of believers to a healthy environment for everyone stems directly from their belief in God the Creator, from their recognition of the effects of original and personal sin, and from the certainty of having been redeemed by Christ.

  • Catholic Minority in Modern Azerbaijan1
STUDIA ORIENTALNE 2018, nr 2 (14) ISSN 2299-1999 Julia Krajcarz Catholic minority in modern Azerbaijan1 he question of the Catholic Christianity in Azerbaijan recently has been deeply worked out, analyzed and discussed in numerous pub- lications,T both printed and digitally widespread in the Internet, in Azer- baijan and abroad. Among them there are books and papers prepared on the academic level as well as publicistic, informative and also sensational media texts. This focus on the mentioned topic could be caused by many factors, among them the most significant are: stable, constant and good cooperation between the Azerbaijani government or its specialised agen- das and the Holy See, two visits of the pontiff, Bishop of Rome and the leader of Worldwide Catholic Church, John Paul II in 2002 and Francis in 2016, increasing number of parishioners of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Baku, few years-persperctive distance of the history of re- newed Catholic community in Azerbaijan, the phenomenon of governa- mental support for non-Muslim religious communities in the traditionally Muslim country, legal guarantee of the freedom of religious beliefs etc. Methodology, aim The aim of this paper is to broaden some observations and add new ones concerning the subject of the Azerbaijani Catholics, the history of the community, experiences and reflexions of its members. Presented data was gathered and formulated during the fieldwork research undertaking in August 2017 by the paper’s author. The author analyzed several printed and online publications about the Azerbaijani Catholic minority before the conversations with Azerbaijani Catholics attending religious service kept at church and chapel in Baku.

Today’s gospel is about the difference between simply hearing some- thing and really listening. Jesus uses the parable of the sower and the seeds to illustrate the dif- ferent ways in which God’s word can be received ….. or not! Firstly the sower drops seeds on a path only to be eaten by the birds. Jesus is describing those of us who hear the word but neither understands nor even tries to understand it. Next the sower drops seeds on rocky ground and the plants grow quickly but die off because the roots are not nour- ished. Jesus is describing those of us who receive the word without any real thought or commitment. Without founda- tion our faith can soon falter when put to the test. Then Je- sus describes the seeds which fall among thorns.

  • The Real Powers Behind President Barack Obama by Karen Hudes
The Real Powers Behind President Barack Obama By Karen Hudes Tuesday, December 31, 2013 8:02 (Before It's News) From Karen Hudes Facebook page: Barack Obama is truly not the President of the United States. He is not a powerful person at all. Rather, he is a front man for more powerful entities that hide in the shadows. The real power in the world is not the United States, Russia, or even China. It is Rome. The Roman Catholic Church (Vatican) is the single most powerful force in the world. However, the Vatican has been under the control of it’s largest all-male order, the Jesuits. The Jesuits were created in 1534 to serve as the “counter-reformation” — the arm of the Church that would help to fight the Muslims and the Protestant Reformers. However, they fought with espionage. The Jesuits were expelled from at least 83 countries and cities for subversion, espionage, treason, and other such things. Samuel Morse said that the Jesuits were the foot soldiers in the Holy Alliance (Europe and the Vatican) plan to destroy the United States (Congress of Vienna). Marquis Lafayette stated that the Jesuits were behind most of the wars in Europe, and that they would be the ones to take liberty from the United States. The head of the Jesuit Order is Adolfo Nicholas. His title is Superior General of the Jesuits. The use of the rank “general” is because the Jesuits are, in reality, a military organization. Nicholas, as the Jesuit General, is the most powerful man in the world.
