    SEVENTH Pastoral Letter PASTORAL LETTER TO PRIESTS “As the Father hath sent me, even so send I you.” (John 20:21) Feast of the Dormition, 15 August 2004 INTRODUCTION To our beloved sons and brothers, the priests, “Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.” (1 Timothy 1: 2) We greet you with the salutation of the Apostle Paul to his disciple, Timothy, feeling with him that we always have need of the “mercy and peace of God,” just as we always have need of renewal in the understanding of our faith and priesthood, which binds us in a peculiar way to “God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.” We renew our faith, so as to become ever more ready to accept our priesthood, and assume our mission in our society. The Rabweh Meeting We held our twelfth annual meeting at Rabweh (Lebanon), from 27 to 31 October 2002, welcomed by our brother H.B. Gregorios III, Patriarch of Antioch, of Alexandria and of Jerusalem for the Melkite Greek Catholics. We studied together the nature of the priesthood, its holiness and everything to do with our priests, confided to our care and dear to our heart. Following on from that meeting, we address this letter to you, dear priests, to express to all celibate and married clergy, our esteem and gratitude for your efforts to make the Word and Love of God present in our Churches and societies. Object of the letter “We thank God at every moment for you,” dear priests, who are working in the vineyard of the Lord in all our eparchies in the Middle East, in the countries of the Gulf and in the distant countries of emigration.

    SC for March 30.qxd 4/1/2008 9:35 AM Page 1 Sooner Catholic Serving the People of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City Volume 35, Number 6 * March 30, 2008 Benedictines, Archbishop Holy Week 2008 Agree to Changes In Parish Roles SHAWNEE — The Benedictine monks of St. Gregory’s Abbey in Shawnee will soon entrust the parishes under their care in Pottawatomie and Seminole counties to the pastoral leadership of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. The Most Reverend Eusebius Beltran, Archbishop of Oklahoma City, and the Rt. Reverend Lawrence Stasyszen, O.S.B., Abbot of St. Gregory’s Abbey, announced the shift in parish administration at a meeting with parish representatives held at Saint Benedict Parish in Shawnee on March 15. Archbishop Beltran hosted the meeting in order to share information with parish repre- sentatives and to answer questions regarding the immediate effects of the change. During the meeting, Archbishop Beltran noted that “the Catholic Church is structured along geographical lines so that every Catholic person and institution is under the jurisdiction of the local bishop. This area is called a diocese or archdiocese. Through the spiritual direction of the bishop or archbishop and extended through smaller areas (parishes), the faith is transmitted, celebrated and grows. Therefore, the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City will be responsible for appointing pastors to the area formerly served by the Benedictine Monks of Shawnee.” Congregations at Saint Cecilia Church in Maud, Saint Vincent de Paul Church in McLoud, Immaculate Conception Church in Seminole, Saint Benedict Church in Shawnee, Saint Joseph Church in Wewoka and Saint Mary Church in Wanette will be affected by the change in administration.

Geraldo Zendejas, prior of the St. Ignatius Retreat House, and attended by approximately 450 faithful. St. Ann’s is home to Manhattan’s community of Armenian Rite Catholics and of Bishop Manuel Batakian, who has charge of the Exarchy (a geographical jurisdiction similar to a diocese) for Armenian Rite Catholics in the United States and Canada, which consists of about a dozen priests and 36,000 faithful. This church also has quite an interesting history. Founded in 1853, the parish moved to its current location on 12th Street in 1870. On August 29, 1929, Pope Pius XI designated the church “The American National Shrine of the Motherhood of St. Ann, and the Primary Church for the Archconfraternity of the Motherhood of St. Ann”. Index En 1980, le Centre de recherche en histoire religieuse du Canada faisait paraître Évêques catholiques du Canada, ouvrage de référence de facture plutôt modeste qui se contentait de fournir les renseignements essentiels sur les évêques s’étant succédé à la tête des diocèses du Canada ou y ayant exercé la fonction d’auxiliaires, et sur les Canadiens ayant exercé l’épiscopat à l’étranger. Le bon accueil réservé à ce répertoire amena il y a quelques années le Centre à envisager la possibilité de le rééditer, mais avec les mises à jour et les améliorations qui s’imposaient. C’est alors que Jean LeBlanc, ancien bibliothécaire à l’Université d’Ottawa, s’offrit à réaliser sous l’égide du Centre le projet en question, projet auquel il entendait toutefois donner une ampleur dépassant de loin celle que nous avions au départ envisagée. Cette offre fut aussitôt acceptée et, à notre grande satisfaction, paraissait en 2002, chez l’éditeur Wilson & Lafleur, dans la collection Gratianus dirigée par le professeur Ernest Caparros, le Dictionnaire biographique des évêques catholiques du Canada, « monument » de quelque 880 pages qui fut dès sa sortie très bien reçu.

    The Holy See SOLEMNITY OF THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD HOMILY OF HIS HOLINESS POPE JOHN PAUL II Sunday, 6 January 2002 1. "Lumen gentium ... Christus", "Christ is the light of the nations" (Lumen gentium, n. 1). The theme of light dominates the Solemnities of Christmas and Epiphany that in the first centuries - and still today in the East - were celebrated together in a single great "feast of lights". The light appears in the warm intimacy of the Holy Night of Christmas Eve; Christ, the Light of humanity, is born. He is the "sun that shall dawn upon us from on high" (Lk 1,78). He is the sun that came into the world to dispel the darkness of evil and flood it with the splendour of divine love. John the Evangelist writes: "The true light that enlightens every man came into the world" (Jn 1,9). "Deus lux est - God is light", St John reminds us, summing up not a gnostic theory but "the message that we received from him" (1 Jn 1,5), from Jesus. In his Gospel he quotes the words on the lips of the Teacher: "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (Jn 8,12). In becoming flesh, the Son of God was manifested as light. He is not just an external light in the history of the world, but a light within the human person, in his personal history. He became one of us, giving infinite meaning and immortality to our earthly existence.

    Maria Valtorta Was Born in Caserta, Italy on March 14, 1897

    In Response to Various Questions Regarding “The Poem of the Man-God" Published on April 15, 2006 by Dr. Mark Miravalle, Professor of theology and Mariology at Franciscan University of Steubenville. [Note: The Poem of the Man God has since been published under the title The Gospel as Revealed to Me, but they are the same book.] Maria Valtorta was born in Caserta, Italy on March 14, 1897. Deeply pious, Maria was strongly attracted to God from early childhood, but it was as a young woman that she started reporting mystical experiences. In 1920 she was randomly attacked by a young man who hit her in the back with an iron bar. Badly injured, she was bedridden for three months and her health began its gradual decline. In the years to follow she made a personal offering of her sufferings to the two Divine attributes of Love and Justice, and by April, 1934, she was permanently confined to her bed. It was in 1943 that Valtorta began to write down in her notebooks the “dictations,” the mystical visions and messages she reported receiving from Jesus and Mary, and the years between 1943 and 1947 were the period of her greatest output. She wrote almost 15000 pages of dictation, a little less than two-thirds of which comprised The Poem of the Man-God, a substantial work on the life of Jesus Christ beginning from the birth of Our Lady and ending at her Assumption.
