Souffrant d’une maladie dégénérative, Lucious Lyon est contraint de changer ses plans et de choisir rapidement son héritier. La lutte entre ses trois fils est terrible et la situation ne fait qu’empirer à l’arrivée de son ex-femme Cookie qui sort de prison bien décidée à récupérer la moitié de l’empire. Tout ce qu’a bâti Lucious lui survivra-t-il ? LES PERSONNAGES « No Apologies » par Jamal et Hakeem Lyon jamal LYON Jussie Smollett Calme, bienveillant et sage, Jamal semble disposer de toutes les qualités que Lucious attend pour régner sur son empire. Mais son père refuse d’accepter son homosexualité. La situation bascule à l’arrivée de Cookie. Elle protège Jamal depuis qu’il est tout petit et elle est désormais convaincue que son talent peut faire de lui une grande star. Elle est donc bien décidée à prouver à son ex-mari que Jamal est l’homme de la situation, quelle que soit son orientation sexuelle. Mais Jamal sait qu’il n’y a de la place que pour une seule star. Confier sa carrière à sa mère ne met-il HAKEEM pas en péril la relation qu’il entretient avec son frère Hakeem ? LYON Bryshere Y. Gray Hakeem, le plus jeune des fils de Lucious est incontrôlable mais également extrêmement talentueux. Il semble qu’il soit l’héritier désigné pour reprendre les affaires de son père. Tout comme son père, Hakeem serait le candidat idéal pour poursuivre et développer l’œuvre de Lucious et Empire Entertainment. Mais il semble aussi succombé aux mêmes vices que son géniteur et cela pourrait remettre en cause sa carrière mais aussi l’avenir de l’entreprise. Alors que Cookie et Lucious tentent chacun d’avancer leurs pions, le lien qui unit Hakeem à son frère préféré Jamal est mis à rude épreuve. Y-a-t’il de la place pour deux superstars dans la famille ? Hakeem est-il prêt à se battre pour faire triompher ses ambitions ? Le retour de sa mère va-t-il remettre en question ses projets ? LES PERSONNAGES RHONda Kaitlin Doubleday Rhonda, la femme d’Andre, n’est pas prête à regarder son mari se faire souffler la place à la tête d’Empire Entertainment. Et cette diplômée de Wharton sait que parfois mieux vaut une main de fer dans un gant de velours pour parvenir à ses fins. Elle suggère ainsi à son mari que ses deux frères ne sont pas à la hauteur de la mission qui les attend s’ils reprennent la direction d’Empire. La famille Lyon a une histoire âpre et dure mais Rhonda va prouver à tous qu’ambition et opportunisme sont des notions bien relatives. ANDRE LYON Trai Byers L’aîné des fils de Lucious, Andre, est diplômé de Stanford. En tant que directeur financier d’Empire Entertainment, il estime que son destin est tout tracé et qu’il serait légitime pour assurer la succession de son père. Mais Lucious est convaincu qu’il faut mettre une star à la tête de son empire. Or, Andre n’a pas du tout la fibre musicale… En revanche, son épouse est une experte de la manipulation et le convainc rapidement qu’il doit se débarrasser de ses deux frères pour accéder à ses fins. LES PERSONNAGES becky Gabourey Sidibe L’assistante personnelle de Lucious a toute la confiance de son patron. Elle le soutient au quotidien et se retrouve au milieu des coups tordus de tous les membres de la famille. La découverte du terrible secret de Lucious ne fait que renforcer sa loyauté. Mais garder le silence n’est pas facile. Becky va devoir garder le cap alors même qu’elle est poussée dans ses ANIKA retranchements. CALHOUN Grace Gealey La nouvelle compagne de Lucious, la belle Anika, n’est pas seulement un soutien incontournable à la maison mais est un rempart face aux assauts répétés de Cookie. Jeune et déterminée, Anika est à la tête du service Artistes & Répertoire d’Empire Entertainment, un poste que Cookie convoite.

The study thus positions the period of analysis as an historical period in the changing representation of transgender characters. A discourse analysis is employed that not only assesses the way that transgender characters have been represented, but contextualizes American fictional television depictions of transgender people within the broader sociopolitical landscape in which those depictions have emerged and which they likely inform. Reese Spring 2021 WMNST 492W: Senior Capstone Seminar Dr. Jill Wood Reese 2 INTRODUCTION The popularized phrase “celebrity trainwreck” has taken off in the last ten years, and the phrase actively evokes specified images (Doyle, 2017). These images usually depict young women hounded by paparazzi cameras that are most likely drunk or high and half naked after a wild night of partying (Doyle, 2017). These girls then become the emblem of celebrity, bad girl femininity (Doyle, 2017; Kiefer, 2016). The trainwreck is always a woman and is usually subject to extra attention in the limelight (Doyle, 2017). Trainwrecks are in demand; almost everything they do becomes front page news, especially if their actions are seen as scandalous, defamatory, or insane. The exponential growth of the internet in the early 2000s created new avenues of interest in celebrity life, including that of social media, gossip blogs, online tabloids, and collections of paparazzi snapshots (Hamad & Taylor, 2015; Mercer, 2013). What resulted was 24/7 media access into the trainwreck’s life and their long line of outrageous, commiserable actions (Doyle, 2017). Kristy Fairclough coined the term trainwreck in 2008 as a way to describe young, wild female celebrities who exemplify the ‘good girl gone bad’ image (Fairclough, 2008; Goodin-Smith, 2014). While the coining of the term is rather recent, the trainwreck image itself is not; in their book titled Trainwreck, Jude Ellison Doyle postulates that the trainwreck classification dates back to feminism’s first wave with Mary Wollstonecraft (Anand, 2018; Doyle, 2017).

Blood oozes out of a fatal bullet wound on its side. Its open, unblinking eyes stare ahead. The rustling sound of leaves. The fresh blood attracts the attention of a hungry BEAR. It approaches the lifeless doe, and claims the kill for itself. The bear licks the fresh blood on the ground. More rustling of the undergrowth. The bear looks up and sees RICHARD HARROW, armed with a rifle, pushing past a thicket of trees and branches. For a moment, the two experienced killers stare at each other with unblinking eyes. One set belongs to a primal predator and the other set is half man, half mask. The bear stands on its two feet. It ROARS at its competitor. Richard readies his rifle for a shot, but the rifle is jammed. The bear charges. Calmly, Richard drops to one knee, examines the rifle and fixes the jam. He doesn’t miss a beat. He steadies the rifle and aims it. BANG! It’s a sniper’s mark. The bear drops to the ground immediately with a sickening THUD. Blood oozes out of a gunshot wound just under its eyes - the Richard Harrow special. EXT. FOREST - NIGHT Even with a full moon, light is sparse in these woods. Only a campfire provide sufficient light and warmth for Richard. A spit has been prepared over the fire. A skinned and gutted doe lies beside the campfire.
