Andrews has [email protected] | 269-471-3315 learned that lesson to near perfection as you will notice in this issue of Contributing Editors Focus. Yes the institution was founded in Battle Creek 135 years ago. It Tami Condon (BS ’91) reopened as Emmanuel Missionary College in Berrien Springs 106 years ago Brent Geraty (MA ’91) now. And it became Andrews 50 years ago. We are coming of age, but we are Keri Suarez (BA ’01) not growing old—just take a look around campus and see how young we are. Or think of the 80+ trees lining the new university entrance planted barely two years ago, so young and spindly Writers Herb Helm (BA/BS ’78, MA/MAT ’80) compared to the 110-year old wrinkled Norwegian spruces still standing Ann-Marie Jones so many years after President Sutherland planted them along the original Douglas Jones (MA ’80) college entrance. In this issue of Focus, there are two articles illustrating this very point. One deals with our 50-year celebration as a university Photographers which Elder Jan Paulsen, General Conference president, helped us kick off; Bradley Austin Justin Jeffery (BMus ’04) the other reports on the latest in student learning—a story of five teachers Anthony James who took their students, their classrooms, their textbooks and laptops to Douglas Jones (MA ’80) Tanzania to offer 12 college credits during the month of May. Martin Lee There is a lesson in this for educators and Christians. A good college Sarah Lee (BT ’02) education has to do with learning what has been while discovering what is Donald May (MA ’87) David Sherwin (BFA ’82) yet to come. Our future and the future of our civilization depend upon its success. Perhaps that is why university campuses often look so old, but are preoccupied with what is so new. Our campus with its high-tech Howard Performing Arts Center next to old gnarled trees that would have a story to President tell if they could talk, and seasoned professors in their tweeds mixing with Niels-Erik Andreasen (MA ’65, BD ’66) fresh-faced students in jeans and T-shirts on their way to class, texting as they go, is a picture of learning what has been and discovering what is yet Interim Provost to come. William E. Richardson (BA ’59, MA ’60) Also Christians—not least Adventist Christians—have a lesson to learn Vice President for University from the experience of staying young while growing old. Our church, like Advancement our university, is getting of age. The Adventist church is about the same age David A. And that happens when its members like our students find Frances Faehner (BSW ’76, EdD ’07) new and invigorating ways to learn and believe. Andrews is a good place for that to happen. I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power. Alberta Camp Meeting Camp Meeting Alberta 15- 23, 2016 July Ephesians 3:7 (NIV) Message from the President Welcome to Alberta Camp Meeting 2016! When Paul wrote to the Ephesians, he commented, “I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace…” (Ephesians 3:7), hence the theme, “Servant of Grace.” Healthy leadership is a core value our Conference embraces and Scripture is full of examples. Noah demonstrates leaders persist in doing right even if they have to stand alone, Joseph proved good leaders endure in spite of diffi culties, Moses validates that leaders accept counsel, Deborah displayed a willingness to come along side of her peo- ple when diffi cult tasks are to be accomplished, David exhibited incredible courage and Jesus reveals that a true leader is focused on serving rather than being served. Perhaps the greatest threat to healthy leadership is egotism. Lucifer, a talented leader in God’s universe succumbed to pride. It leads to self-exaltation, a desire to control and ma- Ken Wiebe President nipulation. Even Jesus’ disciples openly sought to be the greatest and Jesus reminded Alberta Conference them, “But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant” (Matthew 23:11). Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges in their book, Lead Like Jesus make this noteworthy statement, “Most of the leadership that shapes our lives does not come from leaders with titles or an organization chart; it comes from leaders in our daily life role relation- ships” (page 10).

  • To Download the Bulletin
Rusangu University GRADUATE STUDIES BULLETIN PUBLISHED BY SCHOOL OF POSTGRADUATE STUDIES, PROFESSIONAL GROWTH & RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT 2017 — 2021 1 FOREWORD A bulletin is an authoritative source of information for an outsider who desires to know more about an institution and its programmes. It is a reference document, which students and staff alike must consult in order to be properly informed on a particular programme. Ideally, therefore, a bulletin should contain up-to-date information on the curriculum and the enabling regulations. This means that a bulletin should be revised regularly to take care of recent advances in knowledge in the various disciplines and periodic changes in regulations. In this regard, I am pleased to note that the leadership of the School of Graduate Studies, Professional Growth and Research Development has come up with an academic structure guiding our Postgraduate Studies Programmes. The production of this current edition of the Graduate Studies Bulletin, is evident enough to show that the School has endeavored to successfully execute its mandate in furtherance of its goals. With the publication of this bulletin, postgraduate students and faculty no longer have any ground to claim ignorance of the regulations and curricula of their respective programmes. This is more so as the regulations, curricula, and guidelines are now in one single volume. The comprehensive nature of the publication will no doubt also facilitate the work of Postgraduate Studies, Professional Growth and Research Development Committee and other University organs, which are charged with formulation, and or execution of policies and regulations on postgraduate studies. The School will therefore continue to review this bulletin for an improved version of the next edition.
