Where are we based for Cave Week?

We will be located in the sunshine state of Florida around

Lake City.We recommend you to fly into Jacksonville,

which is around 1hr 30 minutes drive to Lake City.

Lake City is small, more of a town than a city. There are

plenty of accomodation and food options, with

supermarkets, cinemas, bars, and plenty of shops close

by.

If you want something more quiet, you may want to look

at staying close to Cave Country, the host dive shop

located in the small town of High Spring. Here you are

close to all the springs, and the daily commute is shorter

(around 40 min if staying in Lake City), leaving you more

time for breakfast ;)

The region itself is part of the Everglades and this is what

makes the area a cave diving Mecca. Some of the world’s

most famous cave systems are close by: Devil’s Ear and

Eye, Ginnie Springs, Blue , Peacock Springs, Little

River and many more.

The region has plenty of other activities to offer:Gator

parks, river tube rides - and of course Disney World – to

name a few. This makes the trip a great option if you wish

to bring non divers along, as there’s always something for

everyone to do.

A Typical Day

Wake up and go to a diner for breakfast, feasting on good old American fair.

If you are on a course, you will start in the classroom (08:30) and then move to the back of the shop, practicing line work.

If you are already certified, it’s a case of loading up the truck and heading out for 2 great dives.

Each day we head out in the morning for 2 cave dives - or cavern if in a cavern class.

Each dive is approximately 50 – 70 min (longer if experienced) and we have a lunch break inbetween. Some days it’s a packed lunch, other days it’s a stop at a roadside café.

We return early afternoon around 15:00 and then it’s back to the clasroom for those doing a course. Around 17:00 we all head out for shopping and an evening meal with a few beverages to rehydrate.

After dinner we return to the hotels and motels, and while some head out again later in the evening, others hit the sack.

Who should join?

Well, basically any diver who is drawn to new and exciting experiences. For those, who are already addicted to caving, this is the perfect opportunity to get more hours in the log book.

At the start of the trip, you just need to be:  If diving in a dry suit, you need to have logged a minimum of 20 drysuit dives  Minimum age 18  Minimum level advanced or equivalent  Sidemount or twin configuration trained  Enriched air certified  Completed the eLearning for any courses you will be taking We also recommend diver insurance, such as DAN. Please check that the coverage includes the US and as as cave diving.
