Christmas in Newport December 8, 2018

We hope you are looking forward to our trip to Newport on Saturday, December 8. Spend a day in the “Gilded Age” as you tour three of Newport’s most elegant mansions decorated and on display during this wonderful time of the year. Our Endless Byways guides will provide commentary and background on the history of Newport and point out interesting sights and historical landmarks during the driving portion of our Newport tour.

Your tour includes admission to The Breakers, the grandest of Newport’s summer “cottages”. This 70-room Mansion was built for Cornelius Vanderbilt and his family and is considered one of America’s finest examples of the Gilded Age. The Marble House and The Elms, two nearby mansions, decked out in yuletide finery, with thousands of poinsettia plants, evergreens, wreaths, and fresh flowers will also be included.

In all, thirty decorated Christmas trees, reflecting individual room décor, anchor many of the magnificent spaces. Dining tables set with period silver and china complete the elegant setting. Windows of each mansion are lit with individual white candles, in keeping with the colonial tradition.

Lunch will be on your own in the historic downtown area, where you have over a dozen restaurants and shops to choose from, including: Warf Pub & Restaurant (seafood/pub), The Mooring (seafood), Fluke Newport (tapas/small plates), The Speakeasy Bar & Grill, Clark Cooke House (seafood & sushi), Brick Alley Pub (American).

If time permits we’ll take a drive of Newport pointing out some of the more famous and interesting sites including: Hammersmith Farm, the childhood home of Jacqueline Kennedy and the scene of her wedding reception to John F Kennedy, The International Tennis Hall of Fame, and the scene of the America’s Cup race.

All mansion admissions and gratuities are included in the price, and as with all Endless Byways adventures, all trips include plenty of fun, laughs, facts, and endless memories with your guides Martha & Joe.
