Looking Ahead It Has Been a Busy Summer for FFK with the WC 2018 Qualifiers Round 2 and Round 3 in June and September and the CFU U-15 Championship in August FFK Newsletter - FFK ta Informá October 2015, Volume 1, Issue 3 Looking ahead It has been a busy summer for FFK with the WC 2018 Qualifiers Round 2 and Round 3 in June and September and the CFU U-15 Championship in August. Regrettably, our Na- tional Selection lost both matches against El Salvador and did not make it to the Group Phase of the CONCACAF Qualifiers. This means the project with Patrick Kluivert is over, at least for now. FFK will continue to work with her promising national selection - next step Caribbean Cup. Our next generation of players won the CFU 2015 U-15 Championship, and we are looking forward to seeing them perform in upcoming tournaments. Our WU20 travelled to Haiti to compete in the Final Round of the Qualifiers for the CONCA- CAF WU20 Championship, which is a milestone in the (short) history of women football on Curacao. Meanwhile the election of the President and the Members of the Board of FFK took place and we are working hard to draw up our plans for the upcoming four years. FFK President Rignaal ‘Jean’ Francisca On behalf of the board of FFK, Rignaal ‘Jean’ Francisca, President Curacao U-15 winner CFU 2015 Championship In July 2015, the CFU organized its first CFU U-15 Championship in St Maarten and Anguilla. Twelve Caribbean countries contested for the title and of course Curacao was one of these countries. Over three years ago, FFK started the CSA Youth Development Program in cooperation with Fundashon Bon Intenshon. In the CSA (Curacao Soccer Academy), talented youngsters train three times a week in an after-school program dedicated to school work, social skills and of course football. The larger part of the Curacao U-15 selection has participated in this program. The CFU U-15 Championship presented an excellent opportunity to test the selection with competitors in the region. The CFU U-15 Championship started with 12 teams in four Pabien Curacao U-15 Selection! groups, followed by knock-out matches for the eight best teams, Kevin Juliana, Michel James, Danel Rosa, Richajier Oleana, Quinton knock out quarter & semi-finals and finals. The Curacao U-15 Burk, Ronathan Willems, Ayodele Kwidama, Sharrion Pietersz, Angerick ended unbeaten at the first place in group with 3 with host St Dorothea, Jared Tyrol, Roderick Bolijn, Jonathan Libania, Gershon Rifaela, Shurendric Fransinet, Nathan Barnadina, Luchently Vrutaal Maarten, St Vincent & the Grenadines and Antigua & Barbuda. Back on Curacao the selection was properly match with both teams attacking and scoring. Curacao honored by the Federation, the Government and of course opened the score, but in the second half the Dominicans the football-loving community for their great performance. FIFA MA Elite Course 2015 for our referees On October 8, 16 referees actively involved in our local com- petitions started in a FIFA MA Elite Course 2015. The course took place in the FFK Development Center in Brievengat and on the adjacent FFK Field. In this five-day course the referees were extensively tested physically, theoretically and in actual practice on the field. This course was organized to keep our local referees up-to-date and on FIFA-level . This is a require- ment for local and international participation of referees in FIFA-matches. This summer, four Curacao referees partici- pated in the CFU Boys U-15 Championship in St Maarten - con- tinues on next page. Pa ge 3 Curacao referees deployed in CFU U-15 Championship Left to right: Alejandro Wilson, Sam Heye, Mike van de Sande, Rayen Goedgedrag Four Curacao referees were also active in St Maarten during the CFU U-15 Championship 2015, Sam Heye and Mike van de Sande as referee, and Alejandro Wilson and Rayner Goedgedrag as assistant referee. Their performance was appreciated and three of them remained deployed till the end of the tournament. The FFK Refereeing department is again organizing a course for youth referees, thus guaranteeing a constant influx of new people to assist in leading the matches of the Liga Lito and the youth competition. As you see, it might be the first step of your international career! Feel free to ask at the FFK office for the next course. Referee campaign against violence The FFK Refereeing Department and its referees started a campaign against violence against referees. The referees experience both verbal and physical aggressive actions during and around matches. With this campaign they want to alert the public and also to empha- size the complexity and importance of the tasks of the referee. One can disagree with the decisions but acts of violence create a nega- tive atmosphere around matches and will result in less public and less income and eventually less football. At the kick-off the referees wore a shirt with the logo of the campaign during the matches. The referees will con- tinue to raise conscious- ness, remind the public of this issue and de- mand positive attitude. Referees campaign against violence on and around the field Pa ge 4 Centro Dominguito wins final 1st Division Liga MCB 2015 After coming out on top in the ‘Buelta di Kuater’ (Round of Four in Papiamento), Centro Dominguito, and CSD Barber again faced each other in the Grand Final. Last year, Centro Barber won the championship and in 2013 Centro Dominguito won the Final. Understandably, both teams were highly motivated to return home with the Cup. The Grand Final turned into a very exiting match with Centro Dominguito leading 2-1 at halftime. In the 88 minute, at a 3-2 advantage for Centro Dominguito after an own goal from Barber, Centro Barber missed a penalty and Centro Dominguito struck back immediately final score 4-2. FIFA Futsal Tournament for Schools Youth Development is one of the spearheads of FFK’s Long Term De- velopment Plan. To promote youth development, several grassroots activities and youth competitions are organized regularly. This season, a FIFA Futsal competition for schools has been set up. The 10 partici- pating school teams played in a round-robin tournament on the Niels Liberia futsal field in the Odulio Willems Stadium. All teams proved eager and ambitious and thus had a lot of fun-filled afternoons to- gether. SGO ended with the most points and received the 2015 Futsal School Competition Cup. • PDF | World Cup: Does Your Team Really Always Want To
Economic and Financial Analysis 11 July 2018 World Cup: Does your team really always want to Article win? The knockout stages of the World Cup not only provided plenty of drama but also some great football. With only a few teams left, every one of them is now desperate for a win. But across the competition, that hasn't always been the case; distorted incentives can sometimes make a loss look like a more appealing option Source: Shutterstock Content - An incentivised loss? - Information asymmetry and a historical disgrace - 'Fair play' gone wrong - Careful with rule changes An incentivised loss? The round-robin format of the group stages, with two teams advancing out of groups of four, certainly helps to limit the influence of luck on the selection of the knockout-phase participants. But it can also distort incentives - and sometimes, going for the win might not really seem worth it. One example was the match between England and Belgium, which the latter ended up winning 1-0. Both teams had already qualified for the round of 16 and were only playing for the first two spots in the group. After Belgium scored, the English team didn’t look too keen to equalise – and it had been speculated in advance that both teams might want to avoid winning the group. This was because even though a first-place finish would pit a squad against a second-place team from another group and make for an apparently easier round-of-16 matchup, the runner- up was perceived to be placed in that half of the tournament bracket that is the easier way to the final.

  • FIFA, Scandal, and Corporate Sponsors in 2015
FIFA, Scandal, and Corporate Sponsors in The American investigation began with a case 1 involving tax avoidance by a U.S. resident who was 2015 affiliated with FIFA. The case then spread to other officials of the association and its members. Several officials secretly admitted guilt and cooperated with the investigation during the two years prior to the public charges. In announcing the charges, recently-appointed U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch said that the individuals under indictment “were expected to uphold the rules that keep soccer honest, and protect the integrity of the game. Instead, they corrupted the business of worldwide soccer to serve their interests and enrich themselves.” The current charges are likely to have a major impact on FIFA and its leadership. The association’s president, Sepp Blatter, who was not charged, initially announced On May 27, 2015 Swiss police raided a leadership that he would lead the cleanup of the association, meeting of FIFA, international football’s governing which he had headed since 1998. Caribbean Teams in North American Professional Soccer: Time for a New Direction? Glen ME Duerr Department of History and Government Cedarville University 104 HRS, 251 N. Main Street Cedarville, Ohio, USA 45314 [email protected] RASAALA, Vol. 5, No. 1 (2014) 1 Caribbean Teams in North American Professional Soccer: Time for a New Direction? Abstract This paper examines the interrelated issues of time and money in club and international football. Specifically, the focus is on small Caribbean countries and territories that are rich in talent, but poor in opportunities. In the past decade, several professional teams in the Caribbean have played in the minor league system in North America, but have been stifled by several factors. This paper argues that the creation of a ‘Caribbean division’ that plays in either the North American Soccer League (NASL) or United Soccer League (USL)-Pro league would enrich and develop teams and players from all parties involved, and they would be more competitive in FIFA World Cup qualifying. The key ingredient is correctly timing such a venture. Keywords: Caribbean, soccer, North America, USL-Pro, NASL RASAALA, Vol. 5, No. 1 (2014) 2 Introduction Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), the regional governing body of soccer in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean, sends three and a half teams to the quadrennial FIFA World Cup. The fourth-placed CONCACAF team plays a home and away playoff series against a team in another region, either in Asia, South America or Oceania, depending on the rotation. On every occasion since the number of berths was expanded to three in 1998, the United States and Mexico have taken two of the berths.

  • Ranking of National Soccer Teams
RANKING OF NATIONAL SOCCER TEAMS P.C. van der Kruit 0. Introduction. Since 1993 the F´ed´eration International de Football Associations FIFA (and the Coca-Cola Com- pany) have published lists (dubbed the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking) with a ranking of national soccer teams (officially monthly but in practice ten times a year). These are based on the results of matches played between teams at world or regional championships and of friendly games. I will use \soccer" rather than the \football" that stands for the second F in the acronymn FIFA. There are basically two possible approaches to rankings. The first is an attempt to put players or teams in a time-independent perspective. A good example of that is the extensive analysis made of baseball results in the USA by e.g. the Society of American Baseball Researchers (\Sabermetrics"). In that approach one tries to correct for temporal changes in how the game is played, changes of rules or strategy, and for technical and other developments that affect the game. Another approach is to try and quantify the current relative strengths of teams. In individual sports, such as track and field, this is comparable to world records (or regional, national, personal or seasonal ones), while the first approach would try and correct for the development that has occured with time. The FIFA has chosen for the second approach. In the explanation on the \World Ranking" provided on the Web-page of the FIFA, there is however no indication that this actually was a concious decision. As a matter of fact, it doesn't state at all what the background and rationale of the ranking are.

  • Flow Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship
Welcome to the Congress To our Member Associations’ Presidents, Delegates and Guests, We begin this welcome letter for our 34th Concacaf Ordinary Congress with a great sense of pride about Concacaf. As we look back on last year — in fact, the last three years since our administration took office — it is remarkable how much our organization has accomplished on our journey to move football forward throughout the region. We are ONE family that works within a culture defined by a love for our game, with ONE mutual goal of becoming champions, on and off the field. Guided by our brand pillars of Unity, Football, Quality and Access, we continue to make excellent progress in the execution of our regional strategy. As a result, we are happy to report on another record year for our Confederation. First, from a competition standpoint, we have seen the introduction and expansion of tournaments aimed at raising the quality of Concacaf’s football, while creating more access to all of the game’s stakeholders. • There is tremendous pride in the launch of the Concacaf Nations League. When we see the results and emotions from our federation’s presidents, coaches, players, fans and the media, we can already perceive how our joint efforts are generating benefits of increased competition and development for the Confederation as a whole. • The expansion of the Concacaf Gold Cup, from 12 to 16 nations, is another signature achievement. More importantly, for the first time in the 15 editions of the competition, we are bringing our top national team championship to a Caribbean and Central American pitch.

  • Predictive Efficacy of a New Association Football League Format in Polish Ekstraklasa
Predictive Efficacy of a New Association Football League Format in Polish Ekstraklasa Jan Lasek1 and Marek Gagolewski2;3 1 Interdisciplinary PhD Studies Program, Institute of Computer Science, Polish Academy of Sciences, Jana Kazimierza 5, 01-248 Warsaw, Poland, [email protected] 2 Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, Newelska 6, 01-447 Warsaw, Poland, [email protected] 3 Faculty of Mathematics and Information Science, Warsaw University of Technology, Koszykowa 75, 00-662 Warsaw, Poland Abstract. In this study we investigate the recently introduced compe- tition format for the top association football division in Poland (similar to one used in, e.g., Belgium and Kazakhstan). We compare it to the double round-robin tournament which is the most prevalent league for- mat among European leagues. In a simulation study we show that the new league format has better ability to determine the strongest competi- tor as the winner of a league as well as it yields higher correlation with theoretical latent teams' strength parameters in the model. Keywords: Ekstraklasa, league format, predictive efficacy, round-robin tournament, simulation, football team ratings, tournament design. 1 Introduction The issue of tournament design has several various dimensions. On one hand, one would like to design a competition so as to maximise the probability that the best team overall wins. On the other hand, the uncertainty of the outcome con- tributes to the excitement accompanying sport contests. Nothing is determined in advance and this very fact makes the competition interesting. Additionally, we are often facing time and space limitations that impose a set of constraints on both the schedule of the contest and the number of games that can be played.

  • Three Teams Withdraw from Women's CFU Cup
Press Release 29 May 2014 | Kingston, Jamaica Three Teams Withdraw From Women’s CFU Cup The Caribbean Football Union (CFU) continues in its quest to successfully stage the inaugural Women’s Caribbean Cup despite the withdrawal of some teams. Due to varying reasons Dominica, Guadeloupe and Anguilla have all withdrawn from the competition. Dominica was the first team to announce their non-participation in Group 2 due to some members no receiving their United States Visa in time. This disappointment was compounded by the subsequent withdrawal of Guadeloupe in Group 4 who pulled out because of most of their players exhibiting symptoms of the Chikungunya Virus. The Anguilla Football Association informed the CFU that due to health issues being experienced by some of the players they would not be as to field a team in the tournament. The CFU is disheartened by these circumstances but understands the need for teams to make decisions that are in the best interest of their players and the larger regional football fraternity. Notwithstanding, while the withdrawals are disappointing, they have not affected the overall staging of the tournament which will be continuing with Group 5 in the Dominican Republic from 16 - 23 June 2014. ### About CFU CFU “Caribbean Football Union” is one of three Unions in CONCACAF (The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football) and serves as the governing body of football in the Caribbean. It is composed of 31 national associations, from Bahamas in the north to Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana in the south.
