FFK Ta Informá FFK Newsletter - FFK ta Informá December 2016, Volume 2, Issue 4 On the rise The Curacao Football Federation, the players, the staff, all our loyal supporters, we are very, very happy with our national selection qualifying for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2017 and the Final Round of the Caribbean Cup. As a result, Curacao now reached the 75h place in the FIFA Coca Cola ranking . For our small island this is a very important achieve- ment. It is the result of the steady implementation of our Long Term Development Plans. And of course it is not just the results of the senior selection that we care about - we also care about our youth. We were the proud host of the U-20 Caribbean Qualifiers, and though our U-20 did not qualify, it was a joy to have the talented U-20 teams over. Our U -17 did qualify for the CONCACAF Championship 2017 and our U-15 girls did great in Or- lando. Even greater though is that through our Grassroots and Youth Development ef- forts, more and more youngsters, boys and girls, get the chance to enjoy football. At schools, with the clubs and in the neighborhood. And exactly that is why we do what we do. FFK President Rignaal ‘Jean’ Francisca On behalf of the board of FFK, Rignaal ‘Jean’ Francisca, President Start CONCACAF Grassroots Project in Curacao The Curacao Football Federation is proud to be one of the first countries in the Caribbean to participate in CONCACAF’s three year pilot of implementing a grassroots program. Within the CONCACAF program, partners actively seek the support and cooperation of govern- mental and private parties. The structure of youth development is in place at FFK, with tournaments for youth players U-6 and U-8 and a yearly youth competition U-9 up to U-20. The focus of the grassroots program is to provide football opportunities for all youngsters on Curacao, be it through clubs, schools or other organizations. The focus of the CONCACAF program is to introduce foot- ball at primary schools and build a broad CONCACAF Development Director Hugo Salcedo poses with the youth coaches participating in player’s base in that cohort. the CONCACAF Youth Coach course and the target group - youth players. CONCACAF FFK Curacao Grassroots Week Overview The grassroots week opened with a CONCACAF Grass- roots Course for current and potential trainers and teachers. The course generated a lot of interest and over 40 coaches participated. •• During the five-day course, directed by CONCACAF in- structor Vin Blaine, the participants got informed about the grassroots principles and how to implement a grass- roots project in actual practice. Special attention was given to the age-appropriate training methods related to grassroots development, both in theory and on the field. CONCACAF decided to support the FFK Grassroots Developent project for Schools with a donation of uniforms and training materials for the participants. In the school project, FFK instructors visit schools to organize football training during physical education lessons or as an after-school activity. FFK aims to implement this program in 20 schools. The FFK Grassroots team organized a demonstration of grassroots activities at one of the schools, as to introduce the project to the Curacao schools and other stakeholders. CONCACAF Development Director Hugo Salcedo gave a presentation of the program for the different stakeholders and government representatives in order to highlight the benefits of this program. FFK president Rignaal ‘Jean’ Francisca symbolically hands over the material for football training to a teacher of the participating schools One of the best practices of grassroots development is organizing festivals for youngsters and provide them with a multitude of exercises and games in a circuit- style program. The participants will practice ball control and coordination while small-aside games will fuel their competitive spirit. On the last two days of the grassroots week the partici- pants of the grassroots course organized two grassroots festivals to demonstrate their acquired skills - and to give these youngsters a change to enjoy football! Curacao Qualifies for Gold Cup and Final Round Caribbean Cup Curacao - Antigua & Barbuda 3-0 The first match for Curacao in Round 3 of the Caribbean Cup was home against Antigua & Barbuda. It was also the first match with head coach Remko Bicentini, taking the place of Patrick Kluivert. Curacao had a dynamic start and in the 12th minute Leandro Bacuna scored the first goal! The Curacao selection dominated the field but failed to score again, until in the 80th minute Rangelo Janga broke the ban: 2-0. Gino Van Kessel scored 3-0 in extra time, his 7th goal in this edi- tion of the Caribbean Cup. Bicentini was content with this result and his team . He felt confident about the decisive match against Puerto Rico. By winning that next match, Cu- racao would qualify for the Final Round of the Caribbean Cup and for the Gold Cup 2017. Gino van Kessel scored his 7th goal in the Caribbean Cup 2017 Puerto Rico - Curacao : 2- 4 Antigua & Barbuda did Curacao the favor of winning against Puerto Rico in the second match. However confi- dent, Curacao made a bad start in the Bayamon Stadium in Puerto Rico and faced a 2-0 disadvantage at half-time. But the Curacao team did not give in to the pressure an in the 69th minute Rangelo Janga scored the first goal for Cura- cao and Leandro Bacuna leveled in the 85th minute. Cura- cao still needed to win the match, for all matches played in the Caribbean Cup must end with a winner. Seven minutes into extra time, Felitciano Zschusschen netted 3-0, and Leandro Bacuna kicked in goal nr. 4, ending all doubts and shooting the team straight into the Gold Cup 2017. The Curacao team ahead of the match Curacao - Antigua & Barbuda on October Participating in the Gold Cup is a first for the Curacao team. The Curacao federation is very content to have reached the next level of performance. FFK has been building this young team since 2014. The team performed well in the previous Caribbean Cup and after playing three rounds in the WC Qualifiers under head coach Patrick Kluivert, the selection and newly appointed head coach Remko Bicentini are ready for the next step. Bicentini signed on for three years in November. The Final Round of the Caribbean Cup will be played in June 2017, followed by the Gold Cup in July 2017. Remko Bicentini will guide the Curacao team for the next three years. Celebrating the milestone - Curacao will participate in the 2017 Gold Cup! Centro Dominguito adds another titel to her shining record Team Centro Dominguito In the First Division, the teams RKVS Scherpenheuvel, and Centro Dominguito played the final on November 7. For RKVS Scherpenheuvel, the team that debuted in the First Division in 2015, reaching the final was a great mile- stone. But reigning champion Centro Dominguito did not give up its top position. In a nerve wrecking final, Centro Dominguito's Stallone Isenia opened the score in the '32 minute. Benjamin Gil Guedez, however, scored for RKVS Scherpenheuvel just three minutes later. Centro Domin- guito's Randall Winklaar sealed the Curacao champion- ship in the '85 minute and with a score of 2-1 Centro Dominguito won the final match. First, the Curacao selection beat Anguilla with a score of 3-0. The second match against the US Virgin Islands was won with a 6-0 score. Cura- cao’s last match in the group phase was against Barba- dos, who also had won their first two matches. The Curacao team settled the match at 3-0 and qualified for the quarterfinals. • PDF | World Cup: Does Your Team Really Always Want To
Economic and Financial Analysis 11 July 2018 World Cup: Does your team really always want to Article win? The knockout stages of the World Cup not only provided plenty of drama but also some great football. With only a few teams left, every one of them is now desperate for a win. But across the competition, that hasn't always been the case; distorted incentives can sometimes make a loss look like a more appealing option Source: Shutterstock Content - An incentivised loss? - Information asymmetry and a historical disgrace - 'Fair play' gone wrong - Careful with rule changes An incentivised loss? The round-robin format of the group stages, with two teams advancing out of groups of four, certainly helps to limit the influence of luck on the selection of the knockout-phase participants. But it can also distort incentives - and sometimes, going for the win might not really seem worth it. One example was the match between England and Belgium, which the latter ended up winning 1-0. Both teams had already qualified for the round of 16 and were only playing for the first two spots in the group. After Belgium scored, the English team didn’t look too keen to equalise – and it had been speculated in advance that both teams might want to avoid winning the group. This was because even though a first-place finish would pit a squad against a second-place team from another group and make for an apparently easier round-of-16 matchup, the runner- up was perceived to be placed in that half of the tournament bracket that is the easier way to the final.

  • FIFA, Scandal, and Corporate Sponsors in 2015
FIFA, Scandal, and Corporate Sponsors in The American investigation began with a case 1 involving tax avoidance by a U.S. resident who was 2015 affiliated with FIFA. The case then spread to other officials of the association and its members. Several officials secretly admitted guilt and cooperated with the investigation during the two years prior to the public charges. In announcing the charges, recently-appointed U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch said that the individuals under indictment “were expected to uphold the rules that keep soccer honest, and protect the integrity of the game. Instead, they corrupted the business of worldwide soccer to serve their interests and enrich themselves.” The current charges are likely to have a major impact on FIFA and its leadership. The association’s president, Sepp Blatter, who was not charged, initially announced On May 27, 2015 Swiss police raided a leadership that he would lead the cleanup of the association, meeting of FIFA, international football’s governing which he had headed since 1998. On May 29, Blatter body, at a luxury hotel in Zurich, Switzerland. The raid was easily reelected to a fifth term. Within days, stemmed from Swiss inquiries concerning FIFA’s though, new allegations surfaced that FIFA’s general award of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and secretary, who reports to the president, was responsible Qatar, as well U.S. investigations of soccer federations for paying a $10 million bribe in South Africa’s bid to in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean host the 2010 World Cup. Caribbean Teams in North American Professional Soccer: Time for a New Direction? Glen ME Duerr Department of History and Government Cedarville University 104 HRS, 251 N. Main Street Cedarville, Ohio, USA 45314 [email protected] RASAALA, Vol. 5, No. 1 (2014) 1 Caribbean Teams in North American Professional Soccer: Time for a New Direction? Abstract This paper examines the interrelated issues of time and money in club and international football. Specifically, the focus is on small Caribbean countries and territories that are rich in talent, but poor in opportunities. In the past decade, several professional teams in the Caribbean have played in the minor league system in North America, but have been stifled by several factors. This paper argues that the creation of a ‘Caribbean division’ that plays in either the North American Soccer League (NASL) or United Soccer League (USL)-Pro league would enrich and develop teams and players from all parties involved, and they would be more competitive in FIFA World Cup qualifying. The key ingredient is correctly timing such a venture. Keywords: Caribbean, soccer, North America, USL-Pro, NASL RASAALA, Vol. 5, No. 1 (2014) 2 Introduction Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), the regional governing body of soccer in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean, sends three and a half teams to the quadrennial FIFA World Cup. The fourth-placed CONCACAF team plays a home and away playoff series against a team in another region, either in Asia, South America or Oceania, depending on the rotation. On every occasion since the number of berths was expanded to three in 1998, the United States and Mexico have taken two of the berths.

  • Ranking of National Soccer Teams
RANKING OF NATIONAL SOCCER TEAMS P.C. van der Kruit 0. Introduction. Since 1993 the F´ed´eration International de Football Associations FIFA (and the Coca-Cola Com- pany) have published lists (dubbed the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking) with a ranking of national soccer teams (officially monthly but in practice ten times a year). These are based on the results of matches played between teams at world or regional championships and of friendly games. I will use \soccer" rather than the \football" that stands for the second F in the acronymn FIFA. There are basically two possible approaches to rankings. The first is an attempt to put players or teams in a time-independent perspective. A good example of that is the extensive analysis made of baseball results in the USA by e.g. the Society of American Baseball Researchers (\Sabermetrics"). In that approach one tries to correct for temporal changes in how the game is played, changes of rules or strategy, and for technical and other developments that affect the game. Another approach is to try and quantify the current relative strengths of teams. In individual sports, such as track and field, this is comparable to world records (or regional, national, personal or seasonal ones), while the first approach would try and correct for the development that has occured with time. The FIFA has chosen for the second approach. In the explanation on the \World Ranking" provided on the Web-page of the FIFA, there is however no indication that this actually was a concious decision. As a matter of fact, it doesn't state at all what the background and rationale of the ranking are.

As the president of the Curacao Football Federation I am happy to announce that two of our national selections have made it into the second round of two Caribbean competi- tions. First the national Futsal selection performed great in the CFU Futsal Championship of 2016. The team won all their matches in the group phase and bravely faced host Cuba in the final in a sold out Futsal stadium and became runner-up CFU Futsal Champion of 2016. They will now participate in the CONCACAF 2016 Championship in June. The senior selection played against Barbados and the Dominican Republic in the First Round of the Caribbean Cup qualifiers. We lost in Barbados but with a win at home against the Dominican Republic we qualified for the Second Round.
