FFK Newsletter - FFK ta Informá July 2016, Volume 2, Issue 3 Forward It has been an enervating spring for FFK and her national selections. First, our Futsal se- lection ended as runner-up in the CFU Futsal Championship and as such qualified for the CONCACAF Futsal Championship in May. Regrettably, Costa Rica, Canada and Cuba proved to be the better teams and Curacao did not make it to the last round. Our senior selection performed really well in the Second Round of the Caribbean Cup and is the proud holder of the first place in the second round. Up to the Third Round in October! Curacao had to say goodbye to head coach Patrick Kluivert. Kluivert started working for Paris Saint-Germain in August and cannot combine this job with coaching the Curacao selection. We wish him all the best in his next endeavor and hope to see him on the island again. Meanwhile FFK is looking forward to a very busy fall season with lots of de- velopment activities and the hosting of the CFU U-20 Final Round in October. We will keep you posted. FFK President Rignaal ‘Jean’ Francisca On behalf of the board of FFK, Rignaal ‘Jean’ Francisca, President KNVB WorldCoaches clinic for youth with Aron Winter A delegation of the Dutch Football Federation KNVB visited Curacao again to continue the talks on the intended cooperation with FFK. Johan van Geijn, coordinator international pro- jects of KNVB had meetings with the FFK Board and FFK technical director Etienne Siliee to determine the areas in which the KNVB can support football development on the island. Aron Winter, retired football player and inter- national for the Dutch team and now head coach of the Dutch U-19 national selection, travelled with Van Geijn to Curacao. Winter is also one of KNVB’s WorldCoaches ambassa- dors and lead the clinic for youth U-13 to- gether with the youth coaches of Curacao. The clinic was a great learning experience for all involved! Ex-international Aron Winter visited Curacao and participated in a WorldCoach Clinic for U-13 Pa ge 7 FFK Futsal team eliminated in CONCACAF 2016 Championship As the runner-up in the CFU Futsal Championship in January, the FFK Futsal team had qualified for the 2016 CONCACAF Futsal Championship in Costa Rica. For the first time in the history of FFK, the national selection would participate at CONCACAF level. Curacao was placed in group B with CFU Champion Cuba, host country Costa Rica and Canada. The first match against Cuba ended in a 1-1 draw, which kept Curacao hopeful for a spot in the semifinals. Even after losing the second match 7-4 from Canada, Curacao could still make it to the next phase by beating Costa Rica big time. However, the future champion of 2016 did not allow that and beat Curacao 6-3. Which meant exit Curacao, the end of an intensive period of training, preparation and a lot of lessons learned. A still from the match against Costa Rica. The following 14 players travelled to Costa Rica: Ashar Bernardus, Gino Costina, Shur- wendel Roosje, Everon Espacia, Jarzinho Pieter, Rudrick Pop, Germaine Geerman, Jean Pau- letta, Stallone Isenia, Jamain De Kaster, Luidjino Hoyer, Djuric Ascencion, Every Janzen and Bryan Pareira. The team was lead by Kenneth ‘Bob’ Bernabela as TD and Jubinald Martis as assistant TD. Keeper Clinic with Etienne Stomp and selection keepers Etienne Stomp has been training the keepers of the Curacao National Selection for quite some years now. Stomp is the keeper trainer of PEC Zwolle youth and FC Drachten in the Netherlands and runs his own Keepers Academy. When on the island, Stomp is always more than willing to participate in clinics for the keepers in the Curacao competitions. In June, in between the matches of the Carib- bean Cup, Stomp and the three keepers of the nationals selection Eloy Room, Jarzinho Pier and Rowendy Sumter worked together in a clinic. A number of youth keepers also got the opportunity to partici- pate and train with the pro’s. Pa ge 3 Curacao qualifies for Round Three of the Caribbean Cup 2017 Guyana - Curacao : 2- 5 Due to the fact that the Guyanese team could not dispose of their national stadium due to an already planned cricket match, Curacao agreed to play their away match in Curacao too. The Guyana team came a couple of days early to our island to train on the artificial turfs to prepare for their match against Curacao and the subsequent match against the US Virgin Islands. The Curacao team and head coach Patrick Kluivert were hungry for goals. The team dominated the field and scored early in the match, with Guyana coming back to 1-1 soon after. The Curacao team however had a scoring vibe - with a 5-2 final score of the match, Curacao was hopeful for a spot in the third round. Felitciano Zschusschen scored 5 goals in two matches Curacao - US Virgin Islands : 7- 0 And things turned out well for Curacao. Guyana beat the US Virgin Islands 7-0, which meant that Curacao had to win and score many goals to end up in the first place of the group. Curacao also scored 7 times against the US Virgin Islands and with a GD of +10, Curacao ended as first team of the second round. This means that in the third round, Curacao will play in Group 3 with Puerto Rico and Antigua & Barbuda and evades group heads Jamaica, Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago, the teams that received a bye to the third round. Mental preparation and concentration is an important aspect and therefore the girls participate in mental session in the weekend. Per- sonal development is another aspect tackled by the specialist trainers employed with the task of providing the girls with the proper mindset for competing in the tournament that will take place from August 9-21 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex located in the world famous Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
