PHOTO RELEASE—Huntington Ingalls Industries Honored by the Seabee Memorial Scholarship Association October 22, 2019 NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Oct. 22, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) was honored Saturday by the Seabee Memorial Scholarship Association (SMSA) during the 2019 Building America’s Future Gala held in Arlington. SMSA presented the “Can Do Award” to HII for embodying the Seabee “Can Do” spirit through the company’s investment and support of the organization. “When presented with a moment of choice, we need to stand up and choose to do something of importance that will have everlasting value,” said Michael Lempke, president of HII’s Technical Solutions’ Nuclear & Environmental group, who accepted the award on behalf of the company. “Sponsoring our country’s next generation is undoubtedly something good for our youth and the future of HII.” In 2018, HII made a four year commitment to expand SMSA’s existing Robert Stethem Memorial Scholarship, which will provide financial support to eight additional students. SMSA is the nation’s only provider of need-based scholarships to the children and grandchildren of America’s fighting Seabees and Civil Engineer Corps (CEC) officers attending accredited colleges and universities. The scholarship and USS Stethem (DDG 63), built by Ingalls Shipbuilding, are named after Steelworker Second Class Robert Dean Stethem, the U.S. Navy Seabee diver killed in Beirut during the hijacking of TWA Flight 847 in 1985. DSCV Van Gogh is a multipurpose diving support and construction vessel equipped with U.S. Navy remotely operated vehicles and a U.S. Navy towed-pinger locator (TPL-25) system. The F-35A aircraft went missing approximately 85 miles east of Misawa Air Base on April 9th. From April 9-17, U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer, USS Stethem (DDG 63) and P-8A Poseidon aircraft joined JASDF forces, searching an area spanning approximately 5,000 square nautical miles. The seamless cooperation between the U.S. military and the JASDF during this operation is yet another reflection of a strong alliance, forged over decades of mutual support and friendship. U.S. 7th Fleet provides security alongside allies and partners throughout a free and open Indo-Pacific. As the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed fleet, 7th Fleet operates roughly 50-70 ships and submarines, and 140 aircraft with approximately 20,000 Sailors. Articles & Testimony The group's large-scale criminal enterprises make it particularly vulnerable to measures such as Congress's recently introduced Hezbollah International Financing Act of 2014. wenty-nine years ago this week, a traumatic yet formative event occurred that prompted a major change in T U.S. policy on terrorism. On June 14, 1985, two Hezbollah hijackers took over TWA Flight 847 just after it took off from Athens en route to Rome. Over the course of 17 days, a short flight turned into a terrifying 8,500 mile journey around the Mediterranean that led to the murder of U.S. Navy diver Robert Stethem. The flight bounced back and forth between Algiers and Beirut, where the two original hijackers, Mohammed Ali Hamadi and Hassan Izz al-Din, were joined by other armed militants including the famed Hezbollah terrorist Imad Mughniyeh. The passengers were moved to safe houses around Beirut, further increasing the severity of the Lebanon hostage crisis that was already underway in Lebanon. Ultimately, 39 hostages were freed on June 29 and sent to Damascus. That November, the hijackers were indicted by an American court on 15 different counts, though this would not deter them from further activity. Izz al-Din was later linked to the 1988 hijacking of Kuwait Air Flight 422 from Bangkok, and Hamadi was arrested in West Germany in 1987 after attempting to carry liquid explosives onto a plane departing from Frankfurt.

Norwegian Labor Party: Oslo, Norway shortly after the 22 July 2011 car bomb attack. Situation - Lone terrorist kills 77 and wounds 161 in multiple attacks. On 22 June 2011, a lone terrorist, Anders Behring Breivik, conducted two attacks against governmental and political targets in and around Oslo, Norway. Before surrendering to authorities, Breivik killed 77 individuals and wounded 161. The targets for the attack were governmental buildings in downtown Oslo and a summer youth camp attended by children of the ruling Norwegian Labor Party. The goal of the attacks was to influence the Norwegian political atmosphere and punish politicians, as well as their families, for polices and legislation that allow increased immigration from Muslim countries. The attacks in Norway demonstrate the ability of a single terrorist to conduct near simultaneous attacks with devastating results. The attacks also demonstrate the use of indiscriminate violence to further political objectives and gain worldwide media attention. At 3:16 on Friday, 22 July 2011, a white Volkswagen Crafter stopped on the edge of a public square facing several government buildings in downtown Oslo, including of the office of the Prime Minister. After waiting for a minute, the driver emerged. Dressed in a police uniform, carrying a handgun, and wearing a police helmet and shield that covered his face, the driver calmly walked to another vehicle previously parked in the area. Approximately ten minutes later an explosion ripped through Oslo's government district. The car bomb, weighing almost 2,100 pounds, was heard throughout most of the city and blew windows out of buildings surrounding the square and up to a half mile from the detonation point.
