I was talking to Oral Roberts,and he said to me that He,and every other Evangelist who has been widely used in Divine Healing,owes a debt beyond calculation to Smith Wiggles- worth . He said, He is the outstanding Apostle of Faith,who has taught and inspired so many of us . I don't think God wants any of us to imitate Smith Wigglesworth, but to be ourselves in the Will of Ggd,as Smith Wigglesworth was in the Will of God for His life . HE WAS CONSIDERED ROUGH . He illustrated by saying he saw a woman at a bus stop waiting for a bus . Her little pet dog had followed her . She said-Darling go home .You can't come with me .Repeated several times .The little dog just wagged it's tail .The bus came,and as she was about to board the bus,she with a shout said 'GO HOME' .The little dog ran . 'That's the way to deal with the Devil, 'said Wigglesworth .I --once asked him about this .'I don't hit them,I .hit the devil' . I replied- 'I don't think you can hit the devil with your fist' . He said-'You're learning . Bro StormontIsays-'I don't think that was necessary, BUT-It was his particular way . And-'no one was ever hurt,and no one ever died,and many hundreds were healed . COMPASSION . Bro Wigglesworth used to weep over his mail which he had from all over the world,many letters expressing great need .He could'nt see sickness or need without being deeply .moved,and the tears would course down his cheeks• . Abfupt . Garfield Vale,home from Africa,was preaching with perspkration running down his face-on and on,his voice becoming more shrill, rising almost to the Welsh :Houeul .Suddenly Wigglesworth got up,pulled his coat and said, 'Sit down brother-your'e killing yourself and us' .Then he said-Now we will sing a hymn,and let our brother get quiet .After the hymn,he turned to Garfield Vale and said-Now,brother, go,on,and don't do it again' Brother Vale had enough Grace to accept-the correction . . TRUTHFULNESS . He used to say-'I pray to God always that He will always enable me' not to exaggerate . That I will always relate only exactly what has happened . And says brother Stormont-'I have heard him relate the same incidents many times, but .it was always the same version' . GENEROUS . He had ministered for a-month in a certain Church .They had given him a Substantia cheque for his services .He learned of two missionaries who needed their fares to get back to China . He immediately endorsed his cheque to put it to their account .Luke 6 a 38 . HOLINESS . He believed in Holiness . He said- 'I can remmmber a time when I used to go white all over with rage,and shake with twmper .I could hardly hold myself together . I waited on God for ten days .In those ten days I was emptied out,and the life of the Lord Jesus was being wrought into me . My wife testified of the transformation that had been wrought in my life .She said-'I never saw such a change .I've never been able to cook anything since then that has not pleased him . Nothing is too hot,or too cold .Everything is just right' . He discovered that there is a power in God that can deal with temperament . 2 A lot of Christians excuse all kinds of misbehaviour,saying?'I can't help it .It's my temperament .Wigglesworth said-'God must come and reign supreme in your life-Will you let Him do it ? Bro Stormont says-'This needs to be said, because 'I think there is an impression abroad that Faith is a Gimmick,and certain types of people can do it . BUT-you need to be pure in heart,and near to God,and to trust Him, in order to see the might and majesty of His Power .Also Phil .2 .5 .HE WAS-A HOLY MAN . HE HAD LIMITATIONS .But he was always very conscious that all he had of any : worth was from God .I met him on one occasion in London : He was taking the meeting .He invited me to share the platform .He had had a-remarkable recovery,from the very gates of : death . He testified,and said in his rugged wads-'God has given me a NEW body,a totally NEW body . Now-who'd like a chorus ? Come on,call one out .A lady called a chorus of her choice out quite distinctly .He said-'EH?'I thought- 'Lord when you gave him a new body,you missed his, ears' .Then he turned to . the hymn- book,and got his glasses,and put them on . I thought-'Lord,when you gave him a . new body, you missed his eyes .Of course,Wigglesworth did'nt see those slight defects and infirm- ities as being any nuisance at all . The fact was that he had been raised up from death, and he was looking at that major fact . HIS GRAMMAR. He did'nt learn to read till he was twenty-three years of age .His wife had 3

to teach him . He once wrote to Cecil Polhil, a Cambridge honours .Graduate,one of the famous Cambridge Seven,and a reputed Million- aire .Later when Polhil met him,he said-'Do you know Wiggleworth-In your letter you have spelt the title of the Holy Spirit in Seven different ways' . Could you understand it ? asked Wigglesworth . He said-'Yes' . Thank God, replied Wigglesworth,'That's all I want' . Igm using all the grammar I have for God' . SAITH .Bro Stormont says :- 'Once when-he was preaching for us in Essex,he quoted Mark11 .23 'He shall have whatsoever he SAITH .He said- 'Have you begun to SAITH yet ? When we got home I said to him,''brother Wigglesworth,you made a mistake .'He said-'What do you mean? I said-'You said we've got to SAITH' . He said, 'So you have' . 'Well I said, 'you' can't' . HE WAS NOT SATISFIED EXCEPT WITH A BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT THAT WAS FULL AND REAL He said- 'If we knew the, blessing of being filled with the 3rd Person of the Trinity,we would set aside everything else to tarry for His Fulness .' He became the man he was becauseiof a REAL.... 1 SALVATION, a REAL HUNGER FOR GOD, .and_a . When a child of God ceases to hunger after purity,then Satan gets in . CONTINUAL COMMUNION . This was a great secret of his life .He said-'Earlier in my Christian life,I_was too busy .I had it out with God . I felt His breath come upon me . Now-every slightest breath of the Spirit upon me,and I leave everything and everybody,and get aside to be in communion with God' 'I don't pray for half an hour at any time,but there is never a half hour in which I don't pray' Leslie,his grandson says-'He was a' happy father and grandfather,not the remote man he seemed to be on the platform-but sometimes we: would miss him for hours-HE WOULD BE ALONE WITH GOD!- ., , HE SAID? ' I never read the newspaper,beca*se .when I come out of it,I am dirtier thaf when I went`in-but when I read the Bible,I am cleaner when I come out of it . - SPEAKING WITH TONGUES .In his Communion with God,'Speaking with tongues' was very regular . man, and.in speaking many a time he would use ungrammatical sentences-,but there-were times ,and-these were : more often than not, when because-he would be speaking in the Holy_ Ghost his language was sublime,and out of this word . I . BREAKING OF BREAD .He held the view that 'AS OFTEN AS ;meant-'AS OFTEN AS' . It was his practice to 'Bread Bread'in Communion every day,and sometimes he did it several times a day .Sometimes when a visitor came he would say-'I am just about to Remember the Lord's death in the 'Breaking of the Bread,would you like to join me ?' READINESS . He-said?' You must always live in readiness .If - you have to spop to get ready,you are too late,the opportunity is gone' . PRAISING GOD . He used often to Praise the Lord and Worship the Lord with uplifted hands .Praise God's word says,prepares the way for God to show you His Salvation . MINISTERING THE SPIRIT . He. had an ability in life and ministry to MINISTER THE SPIRIT .: Bro Stormont syys?'He said tome-'You know brother-IF YOU - DON'T MINISTER THE SPIRIT, YOU MINISTER DEATH' . He was-in a. Railway compartment . He stepped out and went down the corridor to pray .He came back with a shining face .There were two ministers in the compartment .Upon his return,one of the md.nisters said-'You convict me of sin' . i! Within a few minutes everyone in that ~ compartment was crying to God for Salvation,' GALATIONS3 .5 .HETOOK PERSONALLY . In one , Church .he said :-'I am going out,and coming I in again,and everyone that touches me will 3

Only one touched him, but she- was healed immediately . . . .He said :--We must move from everything that is- of . the .LETTER .ALL THAT WE DO MUST -BE_DONE IN THE ANOINTING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT A CHARACTERISTIC BLESSING OF-LOOSING A MEETING He would say to the people :- *All who want a blessing,put -- one . hand up . *All who want a DOUBLW BLESSING put two up . All who want a blessing, to carry away- stand-up . NOW- EVERYBODY PRAY . And it was like the . sound of many waters . Gerald Macdonald, a friend of mine said- - the first time he heard it he ran out . He had come from an Anglo- catholic Church, and he was'nt used to this, but God said- 'If you don't go back I'll. not meet you' . And he said-AT that time I used to be a visiting speaker at Preston .And said 'You know brother Stormont,I had rather miss any of the speakers_ than miss that opening time . There is no need for us . to copy that particular method . But how--- important it is that we . learn how to-_be FREE IN THE HODY .SPIRIT . ANOTHER SAYING OF WIGGLESWORTH . 'If the Holy Spirit does'nt move me,I move . the Holy Ghost' . He was'nt being . irreverent . He loved God more than his critics . But he meant this-that-there is a place where Faith moves - first,and GOD .MOVES,TO HONOUR FAITH . `

In S .Wigglesworth there were two things that were combined .lAn overmastering love for the Word of God .2 .y complete and absolute confidenw in the God of the Word . When he was preaching on GOD-GIVEN FAITH one occasion,he said-'There is one thing that God has given me from my youth up ;a taste and relish for my Bible .I can say before God-'I have never read a book but my Bible .So I know nothing about books .It seems to me to be better to get the book of books for food for your soul,for strengthening you faith, and the building up of your character in God, so that all the time you are being chahged,and being made meet to walk with God' .Because of this view that S .W .took about being 'men of one book,there was a time when he would tell young men to get rid of their libraries .Some have said he was inconsistent .They said-'But Bro Wigglesworth,'You say we should'nt read other books,but you have written two books for other folks to read . But, of course,he did'nt write a book at all .S .Frodsham sent a typist along to take down his messages,and these have come out in EVER INCREASING FAITH,and in 'FAITH THAT PREVAILS . He always had a Testament with him,and always at meal-time would read and expound it to those who were present .To him, hunger for God meant hunger for the Word of God Sometimes he would be asked-'Bro Wigglesworth, can you recommend a good text book on Divine Healing ?He said-'I always answer-'What's .: wrong with this? . He recieved the Holy Spirit as his teacher,as definitely as he recieved Jesus as his Saviour . One day,says bro Stormont 1 he said to me-'God longs for what he has put into you' .I said-'What do you mean? He said, 'You'll find it in James' . I read James throug again and again,and I thought, 'Now what does he mean? .Then I came across James 4 .5 .Trans : S .Wigglesworth,without any knowledge of the original,had it .It's this-'GOD YEARNS JEALOUS-q- LYFOR THE SPIRIT HE PUTS WITHIN YOU' . APOSTLE OF FAITH . Wigglesworth took the line- GOD SAYS IT . I BELIEVE IT . THAT SETTLES IT . Faced with demoniacal power once in a home he was asked to visit .He says-'If you want anything from God you will have to pray into Heaven .It's all there .If you are living in the earth realm and expect things from Heaven, they will never come .As I saw,in the presence of God,the limitations of my faith,there came another Faith-a faith that could not be denied a faith that took the Promise,a faith that believed God's Word . God gave me a faith that could shake hell,and anything else that stood in the way of the Glory of God .Result in that home-a marvellous deliverance . The Faith of the Son of God .Gal 2 .20 . Faith that is in me . the Faith that resides in Christ .Christ's own Faith that is in Me . Mark . 11 .22 . Your faith can grow .BLADE,EAR,FULL CORN . Brother Wigglesworth had problems with H -He used to say-I don't know the difference between a word with a 'H' on,and a word with a'H' off . But He used to say-'Faith in a H~act . and he believed that when you had faith,you did'nt just sit there-you acted .You stepped out . He said-'There's something about believing God that makes God willing to pass over a million people just to anoint you when you believe am-,ad your ordinary life becomes Extraord- 2

as the anointing of the Spirit comes upon you .One of his sayings has profoundly affected me through the years-'We miss the grandeur, because we lack the audacity' Speakingandsingingintongues . Will Howells spoke to Bro Styles,used of God in getting thousands into the Baptism of the Holy Spirit . W.Howells asked him-'How did you get this Faith,He said-Bro Wigglesworth taught me .' HOW? A large Marquee .Servic-: conducted by S .Wigglesworth . Wigglesworth said-'Now,I am going to teach you two lessons on FAITH . 1 .How many have recieved the Holy Ghost ? How many who have recieved have not spoken

with tongues for two ye,,rs ? One year? Six I months?One month? One week? .The majority among crowds of people were in these condition Then he said-You who want God come forward . Most were out at the front . You are going to speak in tongues to-night . I am goin to pray a simple prayer . After that, when I say 'GO', you all speak with tongues . Styles said- 'This might work in Britain,but not here . Then : Wigglesworth prayed a simple prayer .Then he said-'GO' . And to Styles astonishment,it was like the sound of many waters .Everybody was Speaking in tongues .Styles suddenly realised that he was speaking the loudest of the lot . 2nd Lesson . SINGING IN THE SPIRIT BY FAITH . Styles said-Never . Who knows the tune Etc . S .Wigglesworth-Sout-Winner and Minister ofDivine Healing . In Leigh-on-Sea,he would go to the Cliffs .Sit down .Take out his N.T .Keeping an eye on people climing the steps To old people gasping,he would say-'Are you ready to die? .Led many to Christ The young couple .Led them both to Christ,their marriage healed . He had a life-long passion to win the lost to Jesus Christ .Saved at eight years of age,even at that early age he tried to win his schoolmated to Christ . Married to a Salvation Army Officer .l they would spend every Saturday night in prayer,and claim 50 to 100 souls for Christ . 'Every Sunday we knew we would get them' .He just could'nt understand the present day indifference to soul-winning,and contentment with trivialitles .He felt there was a great need for a burden for the lost .One time he moved to Liverpool,and while there he gathered children around him,and would spend his wages to provide for these poor children,and he would talk to these children week by week about Jesus .Hundreds of them were saved in thi : way .He fasted and prayed every Sunday,and he says he never remembered seeing less than 50 soulh saved on any particularSunday .Pastor Miles(Elim) went with him,and an American minister friend for a walk over the Moors . B ing younger they left bro Wigglesworth on a seat while they took a walk over the moors . On returning they found him on his knees at the seat with a backslider whom he had led back to Christ .After the man had gone,Bro W . said-'I knew Father wanted me to come up here to-day .Now let us give thanks,and return home . He used to preach regularly in th open-air .His homilectics were'NT very good, but his dynamics were spendid .Get your dynamics right,and God will meet you with your homilectics . He believed in Enquiry- Room work .Robert Schuler .Pastor of Orange Grove Church in California,with a congregation of 4000,said-'The great tradgedy to-day is that we have been so concerned about the New Birth,and not enough about the NEW-BORN . S .Wigglesworth believed in House to House visitation .Week after week he would spend time in prayer before going,an d he would seek f to get into every house .And he would always 3 try to get the people to pray .And week after wr week he prayed with many,and led many souls to Jesus Christ .Also he dared to pray for their hea$ing,and in so doing he saw many miracles of healing . He believed in Evangel- istic Preaching . When he recieved the Baptism and returned home,his wife said-'You will have to do the preaching now .He objected, but- she insisted . He began . He preached in the Grocers shop when he went for groceries,and three people fell on their knees and cried to God for Salvation .He preached regularly in the Mission hail that they acquired in Bowland st . Brdaford,and many were saved .He preached in the quarries .He preached in the factories . He preached on board ship . He preached in tents . He preached in great crusades in many lands . When he went to Ceylon,sometimes there were as many as 3000 people crying to God for . Salvation in one single service .And this was before the days of the Public address system and before mass publicity .It was the Powere 2 of God which brought these people together . In Norway, -was- e~~ ~~e - e-~a - a ds-e e-s e - -~ b1 ey 4 he was preaching,and the Town Hall was packed full .He said he was over-awed by the tremendous sence of the Presence of God .God seemed to say to him-'If you will ask me I will give you every soul in this building .He says-'I hesitated .Then in Faith,almost tremblingly,he said, 'Lord give me every soul in this building' .And he used to tell with awe,how the power of God swept through that whole building . And he said-' 'I verily believe that God gave me every soul . He arrived in New Zealand when there weree no more than half a dozen people interested . Within a month there were over 2000 new converts meeting to gether with S .Wigglesworth ; for their first Communion Service around the Lord's table . He was a man that was used of God wherever he went . In U .S .A . Norway,Sweden Switzerland,America,Australia,New Zealand, South Africa .The Island of the Sea .Wherever he went,glorious Revival broke out .He never went to the Mission field,but in his passion i for the Mission Field,he used .to pray until missionaries went otit,and then do all he could to support them on the field .,Soul- winning to him was not a programme he had to carry out,it was, the result spontaneously of his personal relationship to Jesus Christ . He was in the middle East,and he heard of a convert who had turned away from the Lord .As he was walking along,he began to cry out-'It's killing me' .He could not bear to hear of anyone turning his back on the Saviour . MINISTRY OF HEALING . Alongside his winning of souls was his ministry of healing . He acted on the principle that GOD'S WILL IS HIS WORD . 3 And if it is in His Word,It is in His Will . Also he believed in Healing,not only because it . was the Will of God,but because of the need of the people .Man need healing . They are sick and in pain,and distress .When he ministered to the sick,he was so often seen with tears coursing down his face .His oil- bottle was in constant use .He would stand up and say-'Wer'e going to pray for the sick to-! night .What shall it be-Wholesale or retail ? That was not frivolous .In Sweden it was then forbidden to lay hands publicly on the sick for healing .He and Louis Pethrus were bot imprisoned for doing so . He had 20,000 .in the open-air .He said-'Lord,What shall I do?' The Lord said-'Get the people to place their hands on themselves while you pray for them . The Government can't touch you for that .' He did .The power of God swept through that vast congregation,and hundreds were healed . He had always felt that he had to touch the people -ersonally,but God showed him that His power could run right through a congregatj ; If there was time he would pray for them individually .Of those who preach We are to consider the END of their conversation . Heb .13 .8 .With that as the test,you can assess± a man's ministry .He said-'When I smell cancer I smell the devil' .And he hated cancer as he hated the devil .He used to wrest] in prayer for those who wdre so smitten .He would say-'An enemy hath done this' . WHEN WE BELIEVE GOD,WE SHALL SEE THE MIRACLES .
